Athens Services Manual Trash Collection - Glendora, CA

On the verge of a drained camera battery, I managed to just barely get a full video of Athens's fast paced manual garbage collection in Glendora. Earlier in the day, I ran into a Volvo WXLL - Amrep Octo front loader in neighboring city Azusa, but the swamper didn't want me to film. But thankfully this crew allowed me to get a video for you all, collecting trash on a sunny Friday morning. The cans they skip are green waste, which were collected earlier in the morning by 11am. All of the older Amrep and Able Body front loaders no longer run in this city, due to their recent renewal one or two years ago or so which required CNG trucks. But the fast crews make up for the lack of an older truck. The Amreps run in Azusa, and the Able Body trucks are used as spares for commercial according to one of the drivers. The contract renweal states that the city will remain manually collected, so it will still be here for years to come. Drop a like & comment below, and enjoy! Even that every where is Automated service I think it Awesome to keep it manual it like a history of something lot of guys that never experienced manual house to house but it’s a art and gets respect.

wish it was still this way the way that I did it when was in the industry, double siding riding on the bucket driver hopping while the truck is still moving kick ass residential crew

Finally a fast manual crew in SoCal!Great manual front load action, happy that it will stay manual out here, really cool to see guys riding the carry can too. Nice find.

+garbageproductions1 There were more fast crews in the whole region long ago when manual collection was a lot more common. I do kinda wish they had a rear loader operating out in that area, even if were just a spare, to make for a southern Cali unique video.

Yeah, I don't know of any full size RLs in SoCal. They all seem to be single axle minis.

this truck almost actually looks good lol...see 3:49, it has that nice full bubble tailgate and I'm always game to see anything with that socal style frontload container with the steps/handles. very pleased to hear that Glendora is staying manual. good work w/ this and glad you caught some bulk too! did you happen to see what kind of work brake he had? it was to the right of the steering wheel like usual, but didn't seem like the typical metal lever that you see on most ACXs and LEUs

I'm a 27 year veteran of trash collection. The way that company operates without regard to the safety of its employees is astounding. That's the way we operated 15 years ago but simply had too many instances of guys not making it back to their families at night. Shame on Athens for knowingly letting workers zigzag, double side, bucket ride, exit the vehicle still in motion et cetera. If you're a trash man for any company, you shouldn't put corporate profits and productivity above your own safety.

Sweet video! Truck sounded excellent and operated fast. Fast crew made for a fast paced video! Does the trash all go a dirty MRF?

How weird it is to see a brand new CNG truck servicing a route that still has old fashioned manual collection. Really sucks that the Volvo WXLL guy didn't want you to film, Athens can be really iffy sometimes... I had one guy threaten to call the cops on me one time (WXLL/McNeilus FL in DTLA) and then a few other crews asking me politely not to film them (on a trip to Temple City). Its really too bad especially if they are in a cool truck. I still have yet to find one of those Able Bodies, but with them being used as spares on commercial, I'd have a better chance of seeing Athen's buy a Scorpion or something of that matter lol. And just to clarify, Azusa runs Octo or HX-450 Amrep FLs? Really enjoyed this fast crew on manual collection. Seems like it saves a lot more resources and time than having 3 trucks go out on each route. Great catch!

+SoCalGarbageTrucks Regarding residential collection, Azusa runs Volvo Octos while Temple City is primarily HX-450 Ellipticals.

Soon Athens Amrep trucks are going to be mostly gone. They seem to be buying McNeilus and Heil trucks.

+Refuse DFW I use both iMovie and Adobe Premiere Pro. Due to editing & video quality issues, only newer videos filmed this year can be edited with Adobe Premiere Pro with highest qulaity available. Anything filmed before I got my Sony A6000 will be edited with iMovie to ensure high, 1080p video quality.

I....am trying to find some owner operator out there that won't mind taking me as trash, some owner/operator with either a side loader maybe like a Modal Evo or a Front-End Loader would work fine. know anyone?
