Electric vehicles has to pay 5% gst while petrol vehicles has to pay 28% gst, electric vehicles get huge subsidies for ex.-ather 450 gets 22000 subsidy. There is a difference in road tax RTO of petrol and electric vehicles which vary according to states. For ex- MP charges 8% on ex showroom for RTO for petrol vehicles whereas it's only 4% for electric vehicles. Battery would cost around 50000 in electric vehicles. Even after so much tax exemption and subsidies and benefits electric vehicles can't compete to even 110cc scooter in terms of performance i.e.acceleration and top speed and range and pricing even double and triple to petrol vehicles. Thus India should postpone it's electric vehicle plan and focus on declining automobile sector.

1 year after your comment I believe the scales has tilted in Ather's favor. With FAME 2 and state subsidies (MH & GJ especially), this scooter makes a lot of sense.

@@saifunazar322 in 1 year price increase from 1.2 to 1.49 that is 30k more means 20 percent approx. Now calculate in 5 years how much it will go up. Also don't forget to compound the rates based on previous year rate.

I am not talking about Tesla. That's the different brand all together. In india people are there to use maruti as well bmw and mercedes. So u will say people who buy maruti are full. It's about individual budget. If ather is so good. Why still hardly we see ather bike on road. There are more then ather we see hero , Okinawa, ampere bike users on road. Think once before u post any thing..

Manufacturing battery will reduce the cost. Govt and private companies are already working on that. Were petrol cars and scooters cheap when they first came on roads?No. They started becoming cheap when more people started buying it. People then dint postpone it saying that we will still use horse and bullock carts. If you keep postponing things, it will never happen. Also have you anyway accounted the money you spend on fuel and services after you buy a petrol scooter ? The cost of electricity is low and it has very less maintenance. The Ather 450X is definitely costly. But the older 450, Chetak and i Qube is competitve. For city use, electric scooter makes more sense. Electric scooter just costs about 30 to 50 paise per km. But petrol ones cost you Rs 1.5 per km. So you save a lot later on. Even I was skeptic about EV with my experience with my older Chinese EV scooter. But with my Ather 450, I have already saved around Rs 6500 in 7 months compared to a petrol equivalent. Also get the big picture. As Gadkari has clarified, we want India to become a manufacturing and exporting hub for EV's in future. In order to not miss this oppertunity, we have to start early. Delaying will not help that.

@@bairavann8490 i guess the older 450 is just above 1 lak and i have been seeing news reportings stating the 99thousand and 85 k ex showroom delhi and all.. you can also buy it without subscription, with subscription it covers most services, free fast charging, roadside assistance extra.You can't really compare evs with ice scooters yet.. but people who have long city commute will find it useful, no petrol cost and not much repair.

U got the specs of both. Compare them. N if ur prime importance is for range, then Ather mentions u the true range that can be definitely relied upon whereas chetak claims to give 95km which is at lab tested conditions. Yes cost is something u ll have to give up for something better.
