Wrong. Look at the study of former NFL players at UT Southwestern in Dallas. There was an inordinate number of athletes with ascending aortic aneurysms as compared to the non athletes with similar body sizes. The average age was around 58 years old. The first study of older athletes. Of course there was no follow up with the athletes if they had dissections, bursts or surgeries. So, basically the study is useless for someone like me, former college football player and weightlifter, who had an aneurysm and didn’t know if it was a safe natural enlargement or a dangerous time bomb. I had to opt for the surgery and it was the most horrible experience of my life. I barely survived the process.

What size wad your aneurysm? Did you continue to lift after you were diagnosed?

@@flextefitness4954it was 5.0. I had to point out to the surgeons that the new guidelines changed for the root and ascending aortic aneurysms. Also insurance needed to catch up to approve the operation. I also asked for the pathologist report as to whether my root and aorta walls were thinner than normal, normal or thicker. To see if my surgery was unnecessary. No haven’t lifted weight in 15 years

Didn’t get the report. They hid much of the records. The anesthesiologist is under investigation by the medical board. The hospital should be as well.

so I am going to say this - not to be mean BUT this presentation is very important and is somewhat lost due to the speaker - English not being the native language. Yes! its St Georges, London an institution that I know very well. Very distracting and difficult to follow. Yes! I am sure she is briiliant - however. This is a topic that I am very concerned about being semi pro athlete and aortic dilation.

You may not want to talk to me. I wouldn’t have had the surgery if I knew how bad the hospital was, not the surgeon, but the hospital. The anesthesiologist is currently having a trial with the medical association in July. Somehow the hospital escaped investigation. I will follow up on that shortly. It was a highly rated heart hospital.

Hi thanks for responding. Had it over a year ago. Healed up finely. What made it so awful was that not just the open heart surgery isn’t bad enough, some grossly incompetent respiratory therapist removed my ventilator tube without any pre-checks or weaning. I had a swollen throat and I choked to death. I was awake during the entire process
