I would say it comes down to more of a body feel for me. Almost all these NA Beers are extremely thin, same with >100 cal beers. But these all had the body of a regular beer, making my brain say HEY THIS IS A REAL BEER.
@@HopsAndBrews Very interesting point! Hadn't processed it in those terms but that's the 'flat' experience that I've had with most NA beers. Great news for Athletics portfolio though!
It’s tricky with NA IPAs because after fermentation, heating the beer back up to kill the alcohol makes it very bitter. So you gotta be cautious as to what hop additions and how much hops you use because you don’t want it overly bitter.
I don't like the golden--or the dark. I disliked the dark so much that I never tried it again--so they may have improved it since then. I do like the Free Wave! I have yet to try the first two--so they are on my list!
I'm so happy more people are doing reviews on NA beer, as someone who is almost 2 years sober for health reasons, who still misses the taste and doesn't want to be the awkward one at parties (even tho my friends have been so supportive of me) I've struggled finding something that actually tastes good. Thank you for this review, just ordered some and can't wait to try em
I've gone sober too also for health reasons (plus alcohol can make one stupid lol). But yeah I've been drinking this one lately and it's nice to drink something for it's sophisticated taste and body rather than for the buzz. This is a whole new world for me.
I am over two years sober and ever since I gave up alcohol to honor my cousin, I never wanted to drink that stuff. However, when I saw some people drink these NA beers that got me thinking to give them a try and it gave me the taste I have avoided for years, but it doesn't give me the buzz nor that warm feeling from regular alcohol. So this brand gave me the chance to drink and not worry about the consequences
So glad you found Athletic to your liking! Absolute best NAs out there. The NÉ style IPA (Free Wave) is one of their best - and they have others in their “Pilot Program” (think “small batch”) like a Maple Brown and a Chocolate Cherry Stout that you will find really appealing. Gotta let the Choc Cherry warm a bit for the best flavor. Love these guys because I adore craft beer but I am a lightweight...
Well I just wish I didn't save them for last, doing a whole month of NA beers to realize I could have been drinking this stuff all month long would have made it even easier. I think they bring probably the best balance of flavor, body, and low calories to these truly CRAFT NA Beers
Tried a couple, the Run Wild is my favorite - excellent 0.5% abv IPA Crazy, I feel like my palate can taste the alcohol part mostly missing but all the other ingredients are still there. A quick beer experience and the luxury of walking away full of energy, sharp, and sleeping well.
I’ve recently decided to cut out alcohol for health reasons and maybe it’s because I’m just newly off the real stuff but this shit tastes awful. I wasn’t picky when it came to styles but it’s not even close to real beer
There is definitely a psychological thing going on with these. Especially the first beer. It must be that your brain's intoxication receptors open up and are fooled. Not drunk, but just that initial realization that oh, little buzz going on. They even have a light beer now at 25 calories and its fabulous too.
I live in remote Australia, I recently went to the city and picked up a 6 pack of upside dawn. Completely blown away by how absolutely incredible it is. I just ordered some more and paid an obscene amount in shipping, but I don't care.
I had no idea Atheltic made its way to Oz; that's incredible!! You mention the high shipping cost; did you order directly from them or from a place in Australia?
@@ComfyChaos I ordered from a shop in Sydney. :-) just been notified the beer is waiting at the local post office. :-) only took 3 weeks and a lot of money haha!
Good video man .. I've been sober for 2 years but i miss good craft beer. It's tough to find good NA in Hawaii (if you know of any NA beers made here let me know) I'm going to order some of these asap 🤙
IPAs are too much for me. The upside dawn however is just right. Very enjoyable. Giving lite next. Im going to guess its half the flavor of upside dawn
I'm about 6 months alcohol free and recently tried a 0.0% beer but I didn't like how it made me feel. I realize that the only reason I tolerated the taste of beer is because of the buzz it gave me. I also can't get with the expensive cost of NA beer, wine and spirits?
yeah you have to like the way beer taste. and yes it's $$$ buy its a little cheaper than say a mid range na drink like juice or soda. so at that point it really is....do you like the taste or not. I really like the sour na beers. they taste way better than seltzer flavors waters and way less sugar than juices.
i wanna rant about my job i thought it had no future i recommend ppl do the automated system so i can focus on better things but ended up just not caring in the end i made ppl wait 10 mins or more just because they wanna come in and pay their usual way
Really appreciate the video! I love craft beer but haven't been drinking alcohol for a few months. The grocery store standards are not to my liking, but I found the Hazy IPA from Athletic and really enjoy it. Satisfies that craving!
I saw your other video review on NA beer and was thinking that these would blow those away, but then I found this. You really do a good job describing the taste of the beer. I liked the hazy IPA better, but free wave is awesome too. I’m hoping to try the stout next because it sounds good. Thank you!
Yeah I didn't get to try the Hazy, I saw it in the store and said "Oh I already have that one I'll buy these" turns out I already had the ones I purchased. I just had another Run Wild the other day bc I was looking for something "beer like" but was working. Thinking of keeping a few of these in my fridge at all times. Thanks for the compliments. If I can get a hold of some other flavors I might do another video on them, I think this brewery needs more recognition.
nice job on this review...I've been drinking Run Wild and Free Wave with dinner for the last couple of weeks..,, a friend brought it over one night when she found out I needed to cut out alcohol.. for me it's a game changer.... mind blowing taste for a NA beer..... maybe not quite as enjoyable as a good alcoholic IPA but the taste is 90% there and for me it's 1000 times more enjoyable than sparkling water with dinner...can't wait to try the stout.
Thats awesome! Yeah fully agree, if you can find some I also recommend Untitled Art they make some good NA Beers, but they are a bit harder to find since they usually just make regular beer.
Yeah no prob. I think you will be surprised how good they taste for NA beer. Now it could have been the month long taste of NA Beers in my mouth but these tasted the best.
@@HopsAndBrews I haven't tried N/A since a work picnic a decade ago, but I think this could be perfect for that situation, or as a Dad, back yard barbecues away from home where you might need to dash at a moment's notice.
@@BeerAfterBedtime Yes I found that it really gave me a peace of mind when having this and hanging out with my son that I could go or do anything at a moments notice. Also found out my son really likes beer, so having the Zero Alcohol ones around was pretty fun too.
These are great, they also have a lot of other fantastic flavors. The only other company I say can compete with their NA Beers are Untitled Art. But they make both regular and NA so you have to keep an eye on what your buying. Athletic is all NA
I think these would be great for me. I can’t drink alcohol on account of my liver but I do like the taste of beer but not the feeling of being drunk. I might check these out
@@zach415 I have seen them at bars, but only in Can form. most bars usually only have 1 or 2 NA Beer options if any. By Law they are only required to have Water and a Soda/Juice as a option for NA Beverage
@@KTPurdybut yes all these beers were kept in a commercial fridge. All my beers I review are cold, I may warm them up and the shoot goes on, but you will hear me say that
I discovered this brew after going through dry January. I’m a beer lover. I love the taste of beer, but I also I’m kind of a little bit aware what alcohol does on the body. I ran across the Atlantic Brewing non alcoholic beer and I was amazingly impressed and surprised how good the taste was in this beer. I can’t wait to try the other ones. I think I’ve given up on the alcoholic beer and am going to try the other selections from this brewery. Thanks for providing this review and your opinions on this video. By the way, I had the Hazy IPA.
oh man Athletic has so many great options for flavor. Their NA sours are probably my fav. Their spicy mango hazy ipa was a great expirement one too. I have don't a few other Athletic reviews if you want to check those out.
Just saw this review and highly enjoyed your effort and knowledge for N/A beverages.....I just bought some Athletic today for the 1st time. Can't wait to try a couple tonight.....Thank you!!!!
@@JAKFOXGamingthe only problem I see with that is that these will cost you more than sodas. The only thing I found that helped me reduce my soda intake was carbonated flavored waters and finding the correct one there. A combination of those and some NA Beers would probably hold you over very well.
The Cerveza Atletica or Upside Dawn Golden Ale would be the closest to those. I have a new set of these beers coming out in the next few weeks with additional flavors they have come out with.
They actually have a whit beer that would be closer to blue moon. They have since added many more of styles to their line up. A 2nd video is in the works of additional flavors
@@nicviv1165 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sdZbkTRFWL8.html You know for what it is, not half bad, I usually have a 6 pack of that and Heineken 0.0 in my fridge for times when I just want something to drink.
In the US 0.5% or under is classified as Non Alcoholic. 99% of the time this mean 0.5% is the highest but can be under by 1 or 2 points. if you are looking for a truly 0 alcohol beer, I would look at Budweiser Zero or Heineken 0.0 (but there is about 0.03 in that one) I believe the same for Budweiser. A beer has to be "fermented" to be classified as a beer. I also did a video on how to extract all the alcohol from a Beer to name ANY BEER Non Alcoholic.
@@HopsAndBrews huh that's still weird like I don't get why non alcoholic drinks with a slight abv exists like either drink or reach for a liquid that has absolutely no alcohol in it
@@Kristian179 A lot of people like the taste of beer, and so the best way to reach that flavor is to make it that way. Why have a cherry flavored candy when you can just have a cherry
@@Kristian179 The amount of NA beers you would need to be the equivalent of 1 beer is quite a lot and also you would have to pound them down extremely fast which most human stomachs and batters cant handle. There is more abv in old OJ than in these beers, You would be surprised to see what things have alcohol in them but are lower than 1% and therefor do not need to be listed.
