Athlon Ares BTR (Turret Update) Part 2 

The ares turrets have not changed at all, just the turret cap has changed to be the same as the new Ares ETR with the top screw. The trick to improving the turret feel and sound is removing the lower o ring on turret that was only installed to give friction but hinders more then helps. The o ring can be removed on both current or older model Ares BTR with same result. This is an Athlon approved fix and does not effect it's dust or water proofness.

I had the same problem. Took the scope of my 30-06 and put it on my air rifle. This year I had a chance at another for a price I could not pass up. The new Argos has real audible clicks.

Got my Ares BTR in today w/updated turrets. First thing I did was pop the caps and remove the large o-rings! Now all is right in the world!!

Scope cover brand/sizes?

Changing the grease out fixes it.

definitely really excited about the features and prices of a lot of their stuff. but with a new company I always like to wait for them to work the bugs out and make some rolling changes until I make a purchase.

Has anyone had any luck sending the old style scopes back to Athlon to be replaced by the new ones?

The turrets are different on those two. The old one has Allen screws the new one has the single screw with the big flat blade so a coin can be used to remove it.

I've heard there's not much parallax adjustment (maybe half a revolution)?

No issues with my ares. Wiped the factory grease and straight away felt the difference. But I must say my talos btr ffp isn't what I expected. Only one issue with my talos if athlon are watching is that the parallax knob is tight like a virgin. That is one thing I'd like looked at. Might have to approach my countries importer and make them aware of it. Otherwise it works great. Only other down side is the retail price. How the fuck do these importers justify the almost double retail to usa retail is beyond me. Maybe they like to get rich quick from others hard work.

Did the model number change on the updated or changed model?

Is there a model # difference for the updated version?

That looks like their new ETR. Is the magnification bumped to 30 as well?

I wanna buy one of these, but if they send me one with those shitty turrets, i'm gonna be pissed. It sucks because i'm sure their dealers and distributors still have a large stockpile of the version with the terrible turrets so there's no telling how long it'll be before those are completely gone and the new ones are out. I'm sure they won't show me the same courtesy and replace mine like they did yours. Damn that's a bummer man.

I have seen a bunch of videos on this and what I have seen is you take the turret off and clean the grease out from under the turret and it fixes the problem. At least I think it was this brand but it may have been SWFA. Worth a look anyway.

I own a couple Athlon’s. I want the ares BTR but I don’t like the turrets on them for the money. I would take the updated version though. It’s a shame that I have to wait until they sell out of the current model to get the better product when it is clearly ready now.

is that a stealth rifle?

I just bought the new generation ones and the turrets still feels like crap. Barely audible, 0 noise if you turn slowly. I recommend just choosing a different company unless you want the bang of the buck from argos to helos. After that and you start losing money. Edit: ended up with a nightforce shv 4-14f1. Good turrets and quality. Terrible zoom. Oh well :)
