I was a drummer in the opening ceremonies-- had two guys carrying the green Taiko drum I was playing on the field. Wore one of those pringle outfits. We waited with John Williams at every rehearsal and on the big day. Great guy. He teased me about having my music on a transparency taped to my drum-- said "I wrote that one!!" It was hot as blazes and a once in a lifetime memory.

I was 18 at the time and I’m from Georgia. The Olympics really helped the city and turned Atlanta from a city full of abandoned buildings into the world class city it is today.

After the Paris opening ceremony I had the urge to rewatch Atlanta for a 3rd time

Will never forget the 1996 Olympics. I was fortunate to be one of the people who got to perform as Izzy, the mascot of the games. Made appearance throughout the event and Centennial Olympic Park. Once in a lifetime experience!

It’s been my dad’s dream to attend the opening ceremonies. We didn’t get tickets via lottery… we were walking around the city the day of and ran into a guy who wanted to sell all 5 of his tickets! We didn’t think twice and I am so so glad we did. It truly was once in a lifetime event!!!

My sister, Nicky, was working in the production truck coordinating all the camera shots so that what you and I enjoyed watching of the opening and closing ceremonies could flow seamlessly. She left an awesome memory for millions of people not only by the Olympics in 1996 but also the three Olympics prior.

I watched and taped this in 96. The more I watched it the better it became! I used to sing along to the songs. This Opening and Sydney 2000 are my favourites, based upon the music.

The irony of being at the 1996 Olympics and 8 years later one of those Olympians would be my track coach.

On a warm June day in '96, my father and I made a short drive to Bennington, VT to watch the Olympic Torch Relay. We were lucky in the choice of our spot as we watched a hand-off directly in front of us. My father passed away three months later but I will always have that memory of the two of us getting to see that.

I remember this Olympics. I was 11 back then and can’t wait until it comes back to Los Angeles. Where I live it’s gonna be epic.

Those Atlanta Games really took me down memory lane, and I want to keep reliving them forever for life.

I was born in 85', but I still remember 1996 Olympics being a big deal at the time. A lot of us wore the Olympic jogging suit and you saw the 5 ring Olympic symbol everywhere! I was just a kid.

One of the top 5 best Olympic Ceremonies in my opinion. I was born a few months before the games of that year in April in Florida along with my twin sister. ATL HAD IT GOING ON!! I live in Georgia now. I hope it comes back here.

The 1996 Olympics gave me so many wonderful memories. I performed in the Opening and Closing Ceremony. In the Opening Ceremony, I was part of the Mississippi river elements in the Summertime segment. We were called Water Waves. It was so much fun and one of the high points in my life. Seeing this without the commentary was amazing. Thank you so much. It's just as I remember it happening.

One of the most treasured event of my life - was fortunate to be in audience and was so amazed one production after another. Glad to see this finally on youtube, the uncut version - AMAZING!!

One of the best events to be a part of. They ran the Olympic torch through my town on the way to Atlanta. My family went to the Outer Banks for the first time a day after this, the first time we stayed in another state as a family. It was fun to watch the Olympics on TV at the beach for the first time. Jeff Rouse from my hometown, won gold in the 100 meters in the backstroke in swimming that year.

I've watched this live in Portugal over night..only finished by dawn, my family was unaware that I was up all night. I was 16 at the time, and loved the Olympic Games!! This opening ceremony was very beautiful, in somethings was simillar to Barcelona 92.

The fact that people from all over the world can come together every 2 years to compete in games together gives me a little bit of hope. I love it.

This was my first Olympics that I was being an audience in front of TV when I was 12, my Olympics memory was starting from that moment. After seeing how the French did in Paris for this year's opening, I really hope the Americans can step it up in 2028. I'm definitely cautious, though, since it's in Los Angeles.

This is currently the last occasion that United States hosted the Summer Olympics. The next time will happen in 2028 in Los Angeles. In this ceremony, the nations are announced in French and English respectively. Spanish should be added for the parade of nations of 2028 Olympics.

Things I remember about the 1996 Olympics: 1. Michael Johnson 2. Kerri Strug 3. Those ridiculous outfits at the beginning of the opening ceremony.

My favorite thing about this beautiful ceremony besides the music has to be the pilobolus performance, it stuck in my memory and it makes me so happy to see it again after so many years, really an incredible production.

These games got me into gymnastics. Lilia Podkopayeva's floor compulsory routine was PERFECT!

This is my favorite ceremony of all time!

-Yellow represents Asia, from the Middle East to Japan, south to Malaysia and Singapore. -Blue representing Europe, from Dublin, Ireland to Moscow, and extended to Rome and Barcelona. -Green represents Australia and New Zealand, from Perth to Sydney and Auckland. -Black represents Africa, from Egypt to South Africa, and west towards Morocco -And the red represents North and South America, from Canada, through the United States, Mexico, Central America, and extending south from Colombia to Chile and eastward to Brazil. -This is why Atlanta was chosen to be an international city because of the Olympics. Almost 200 countries around the world descended on Atlanta to take part in the Olympic Games.

My favorite opening ceremony! I was only 14 in 1996 going to swimming pool everyday in a hope to be a part of Sydney 2000.

I was five years old when I watched this in my home city. I got to go to a baseball game, saw the torch and "Izzy" drive by on the streets of Atlanta, and was held for a picture by the woman's soccer team.

When the Olympics came to Atlanta in '96, I was 8 y.o and remembered them for the gymnastics that my sister had me watch with her. It's nice to be able to recap this ceremony and appreciate it fully. Good times!

I saw this on tv last week and at some point during the pep rally and stuff I started crying. Also during the Olympic theme. It was all just so beautiful. It's just so large scale and just how smoothly it ran was astounding to me, and just utterly beautiful. :')

Its just amazing looking bk at thiz moment and to think i was 11 yrs old when this took place had no clue what this meant, and ive been lucky to be alive to watch more Olympic ceremonies to this day, i share this moment w my kids and tell them what it means, nxt Olympics in 2021 will be unprecedented, unique and special symbolizing what 2020 was, and what is to come....

I was back home in Ilion NY (15minutes easr of Utica NY) watching this on TV. 196 nation's later after Greece lead off the parade on nation's just the sight of Bruce Baumgartner carrying the STARS AND STRIPES into Olympic Stadium as the host country gaves my the goosebumps and still does every time I see this😊😊😊😊GO USA

I was 10 when the 1996 Summer Olympics took place. Even now, watching the National Anthem be sung by the chorus, ending with the USAF Thunderbirds flyover, the Olympic Anthem later on, and then the Ode to Joy, or as I know it in the Catholic Church, the Hymn to Joy/Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee, being sung as the torch makes the final leg to the cauldron, tears me up every time. Same for 2002 in Salt Lake City with the Winter Games, and I'm sure it will be the same in Los Angeles in 2028 for those Summer Games. I'll be 42 then.

I grew up spending summers at Turner Field so seeing videos of the stadium before it was a baseball stadium is such a trip.

Having watched this opening in 1996 and watching this replay gives me nostalgia and coming to my conclusion that, this was the best sports event opening I have ever watched. This was simply the BEST. The organisers spent every sweat on something that is likely never ever get a repeat in our life time. Love from Namibian 🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦
