I'm not one to normally make a big stink about this, but the umpiring in the Phillies/Braves series was abysmal and almost comically biased toward Philadelphia.

The plusses for Houston, however, are these: Starting rotation is off to a good start keeping runs down, Dubon is just a beast, Yainer Diaz is getting on base often, Altuve is batting upwards of .350, and, despite yesterday's outing, Josh Hader has looked really good and is throwing well.

My first official MLB game ever was Dodgers vs Cardinals (Albert Pujols last game at dodger stadium 9/25/22) my bday is 9/26 and Mookie threw me his warm up ball in the 6th inning and got it on video too!

Watching this on Thursday. Astros are done is an overreaction- no hitter next day, shut out on Wednesday. Showing what they CAN do, so we’ll see. And yes, Juan Soto is a super stud.

The Astros struggles at home aren't just the post-season. They're 7-25 in their last 32 home games. They had a losing record at home for the full season in 2023. I thought the "run-it-back" mentality was wrong last year and it seems even more so, now. The bullpen has no depth. The starting rotation is way too dependent on both Framber adjusting to the pitch clock AND on guys coming back from pitching injuries to resume their *Career-Best* form. If the Astros were a stock, i would sell it. And the future doesn't look that bright right now, either, because the farm system is depleted. I've loved the Astros for over 30 years. No shame in admitting the run is over. Let Dana Brown do what he was hired to do - tear this roster down, restock draft picks and prospects, and rebuild.

(I should clarify - my comment on pitchers returning to career-best status is about Lance McCullers and Luis Garcia - who've had major injuries. i wasn't intending to voice skepticism of Justin Verlander. How do the Brewers go from Ben's forecasted basement team in the NL Central, to a top 10 MLB team in a matter of days? Are the Mets a benchmark barometer of upper tier baseball that I wasn't aware of?🤔

Great question. They did sweep the Mets, but also lead the NL in ERA after a lot of people questioned their pitching. It's early and things can always change. Who would you have had at 10?

Ima Yankees fan, but I’ll be fair and say for all 4 of those games Houston kept it close for a while. I think something to look at this season (with regard to their potential pitching issues) is losing Martin Maldonado and seeing if that is a big impact as to why.

You should just say that you think they are the best teams regardless of how well they play. There's no need for weekly rankings at all if you don't base your rankings on how the teams perform. Neither the Braves nor the Dodgers had the best week ... did they? And the season just started, so there really isn't anything else to go on. Let them earn their rankings based on their play. If they are the best, they'll prove it without your help.

Steele won't harm the outcome much if he is back in a month but I think he will be at least on a 60 day IL and if not even coming back in a month from now a pitcher needs to get back in shape and that takes time.

@@FlippinBatsPod more like a lack of recognition, they are hardly ever talked about. If they didn’t just win the World Series and almost sweep the cubs to start the season I’d get it. Go back and look at the Rangers mid season games last year, a lot of their starters were injured or in the minors which is why they started dominating after Carter was called up and haven’t let up since.

The Mets McNeil looks like a major hypocrite after you showed HIS slide from last season! He's whining about the Hoskins slide, but if you look closely, McNeil actually loses the handle on the ball BEFORE even being touched by the base-runner.

That was a dirty slide. He didn't start his slide motion until he was pretty much on top of the bag. Plus he was a coward. McNeil was screaming right in his face and Hoskins didn't defend himself or say anything until he was behind the safety of his teammates and then he started the crybaby. He doesn't have a pair

The Phillies fans are haters of anyone but themselves, and they sold out the first two games with "The Battery" like numbers only to get throttled twice. The only game they won was the least attended. I would put a 25 to 12 pounding against anybody right now, but the Phillie fans continue to look for someone else to blame, umpires.

Houston has lost their mojo. This offseason and spring did nothing to change their home fortunes (or misfortunes). I want Joe Espada to do very well as the Astros' new manager, but his players need to respond. There was just no clutch in that Yankees series where Houston couldn't get it done with runners in scoring position, and in which everything else went right for the latter team. It's early, and there IS a lot of baseball still to be played. And, yes, Juan Soto, by far, has been a sensational pickup for New York.

…. Dog. We outscored the Phillies 25-12. Had almost 20 XBH. Strider gave up 2 runs. Fried was screwed by the ump (would have gotten out with 0 runs) and if I’m not mistaken we made 0 errors. If not for 2 plays in game 3 that came down to inches, we sweep the 3rd best team in the NL at their stadium in front of their sold out crowds.

@@brandonbrame1171 on paper we’re the best team, that’s all these rankings have to judge off of. I remember last year these rankings had the Rays as #1 for a month because they were undefeated but I knew the Braves had the best team. Eventually Ben changed it once the Rays started to decline but to change your #1 team after 3 games would show a lack of confidence in your ranking that was made only a week prior. Strider and Fried won’t pitch against the Phillies every start. The easy starts will bring Strider’s 3.60 ERA down. Think about it. He gave up 2 runs in 5 innings. If he goes out and throws 6 shutout against the Sox his era will be around 1.50. A 1.50 ERA with 16+ strikeouts and a 1-0 record is elite. Exactly what we want from him
