Right!! Most people probably didn't pick up on that but I noticed it right away. Obv people know Garth and Danko but levon is so modest and such a real genuine human that he included all.
@@srgaither2117 this has been an on going question... But yes Robbie Robertson was the brains behind The Band and wrote several of their hit songs!! But it was Levon Helm and Rick Danko that made the music and did all the singing that made people like me ' love this band '! Then they became Bob Dylan's band for a while and that just shot them into stardom!!!! But Robbie was kinda the silent guy in the background ( except when he was ripping on that guitar) that made most of the decisions I do believe!!!!! Hope I answered your question!!!!
Becky finch thank you for your only member that I was response. Robertson was the member that I knew .I didn't know who helms was until recently..I love hie
Rick Danko was the quiet explosion in The Band!!!! If you know what I mean!!! His voice was so unique and people thought that it was Levon singing on certain songs, when in fact it was Danko!!!! His best voice is 'IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE'... MY FAVORITE BAND SONG OF ALL TIME!!!!!! But I love it all just the same!! Wish we could all go back in time and just lose ourselves in this GREAT music that is THE BAND!!!! RIP to all members who have passed!!! Again.... What a BAND there must be in heaven!!! When I meet my maker at the Pearly Gates I can only hope that the music plays on!!!!!!!!!!!✌️☮️✌️☮️✌️💕💖
@@ElevenMileRecords Thanks man!! I just say what I'm feeling!!! This band was just so good!!! The Last Waltz!! Everyone should see this final concert of The Band!!!!!!!!! If you are a fan!!! AMAZINGLY GOOD!!
Yes, I was born on the other side of the Atlantic and to me Levon Helm and Rick Danko strike a chord within me even greater than some of my own Irish singers. Also their voices show what great human beings they were ,warts and all !!💚
Not just an a mazing musician and singer, but just a regular guy that I would have loved to sit at the bar and have a beer with. Such a great smile. He is sorely missed.
I remember hearing he died through the radio on my way to school, I cried. I was only in 10th grade and my dad asked me why I cared. I sat all day through school asking myself “why do I care?”. I got home and played a record I had bought with my 5$ allowance one day, I believe it was music from big pink. As soon as I heard Levon’s voice I cried again. And after I stopped crying I was left singing with a smile on my face.I cried because I wasn’t cool, I wasn’t popular, I wasn’t anyone. But when I listened to Levon I felt I was. I begged my parents to take me to love for Levon but we just couldn’t afford it at the time :/ but that’s alright, I still remember being in 10th grade and feeling like hot shit when I listened to the band.
You are not nothing. Not ever. Never let the bastards win. Dunno if it will make you feel better or not, but I still tear up while I listen, all while being happy I'm able to listen. Its a big old goofy world.
Seen them with Dylan in Hollywood ,FL. IN the early 70's.. Great Time..BLOW OUT SHOW...THOSE WERE THE DAYS..MET THE LATE GREAT BILL GRAHAM..ROCK PROMOTER..ASOME DUDE..HE SHOOK MY HAND TOLD ME & MY BROTHER ^ GIRLFRIEND AT THE TIME TO ENJOY THE SHOW..HE'S GONE NOW ""GOD BLESS HIM""
lindentr33;Boy they all brought something to the mix, but I'm always floored by how Garth added background that always fit right in, never overshadowed but an as an almost subconscious aside....rarely in the spotlight but a potent force in the mix.
Rip Rick danko...god I miss your playing.. spirit..presence...Levon...sigh...I dont even have the words..ill cherish all the gifts you gave us!! Much much love.
Levon is such a humble gentleman and the beautiful Richard Danko and the incredible Garth Hudson and the rest of the supporting cast are all so terrific..And the *Boss* said he loves this version better than his...so talented all these great people..Miss Richard though
Jim Eggeling If you know about The Band. You know which you obviously made this comment as some derogatory hit at Levon and/or the other original members. Fucking asshole
Great song. Too bad Rick's bass wasn't in the mix until the last few bars...I had the pleasure of hanging out with him and his wife in the Village many years ago. Sweet couple, down to earth as could be. RIP.
Back in the late 70's, the Criterion theater in Bar Harbor, Maine played a midnight showing of The Last Waltz every summer. Great times, Great memories!
I was elk hunting in the southern Rockies in Nov 93. One day hunt and on the way home I switched the radio on and I heard the opening strains of a tune on a mandolin. Never heard it before but knew it was Atlantic City and The Band. Coincidence when I arrived home I had a message on my phone machine, it was Rick Danko...
I got to see the band a few times, but one concert at the now long gone "Mill Run" theater in the Chicago burbs ( it had a slowly rotating stage in the center of the seating area) was truly memorable. I don't remember the whole set, and only Robbie was missing from the group then, but they played "Acadian Driftwood" and I was just mesmerized as they played and passed the vocals on from Levon to Rick to Richard. And although it wasn't them playing it, years later I saw a bluegrass band at a beach bar in FL, that went into about a 3 or four minute lead in, and then broke out into "Atlantic City" and I freaked out with enjoyment. A truly talented band, the likes of which won't be seen again.
RIP, Levon and Rick. And Richard Bell, from my hometown of Toronto. IMHO...."Jericho" is a very fine LP. They didn't need Robbie to carry on making great music.
RIP Levon, a true genius. Levon was from my wife's hometown of Helena, Arkansas. He was the only American member of The Band. The first incarnation, Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks, featured Ronnie as the lead singer. He was an Arkansan also.
Denis Chauvin You're right he's from Elaine, Arkansas and in his book reminisces about taking the bus in to Helena to sit in on a local radio station house band for as long as they'd have him
Great times - Professor Louie produced Atlantic City with The Band...he also worked on two more CD's with them after that.... This was a great arrangement - Miss Marie
I know you wrote this a term ago but Bruce said of all the covers not only did the band do it best but that they did it better than he himself... " So I heard" not like I speak with the Boss .. but I did hear this. Wonder if it's true. I love this one. But in my book no one does it better than Bruce himself. My fav song ever written and best in my book
I would say that out of almost any famous musicians that I love and/or respect, Levon seems the most like someone I could sit down and have a beer with.
Saw these guys around '90. Wish I knew then what I know now, I was in the presence of true genius. Still remember when they started King Harvest the place went upside down.
HagbardCeline43 you're sayin' what i'm thinking. levon helm outclasses Williams so much it hurts to watch. Levon, damn what a great talent. miss his work so much.
@Mike B I understand your point and like it. But, being the way I am, so melancholy by nature, the Band can take a melancholy feeling that pervades me and uplift me. BTW, I really like Springsteen's "Outlaw Pete". Sends shivers down me spine!
