"The scaffold was high and eternity was near". The Band switches from their main instruments and do a splendid version of Long Black Veil. This is from the concert video "The Band is Back", in Vancouver 1983.
I don't know what came over me..the tears just rolled down my face. Watching them all here and knowing that Richard, Rick and Levon are now gone..aww man. They were not just The Band..they were THE Band.
I'll take the Band over The Beatles,The Stones ,U2 or Pink Floyd or any rest of the rest of them from the same side of the Ocean that I was born on .For me Rick Danko andLevon Helm are in a category of one.
I just can't get enough of watching and listening to Rick Danko singing, especially this song, also Stage Freight, and my favorite "It makes no difference". I have like The Band since 1969, always liked Robbie, but recently have really singled out Rick, he is so soulful.
A thing of beauty and also one of the one I can sing with the band!I'm a bassist and usually stick with backup. Thanks forever Rick Danko ,The Band, and Lefty Friizell.
Has to be one of the best versions of this song. Rick Danko's voice is magical, as is Levon's. Perfect harmonies with lots of feeling. Nice to see Garth Hudson out front for a change. Thanks for posting.
