This video is one in a series about the upgrade and retrofitting of my Atlas ten inch lathe. In this video I am boring out the hole in the apron for the carriage handwheel shaft and pressing in a brass bushing.
Yup I had to do mine too the whole thing was wore out. I had to make a new steel gear box to advance the carrage to replace the old broken die cast potmetal one.
Howdy Ciladog, I've just finished..well almost finished a cosmetic restoration of my TH54, and I'm having a wee problem with the lead screw and reverse change gear box. It doesn't have quick change gears, it just has the small box next to the change gears that engages the lead screw and reverses, and I was wondering if you could give me any advice, or point me to anyplace in your videos that would help me adjust the gears and get everything going smoothly again? I know it is something simple that I just am missing, and if you could help point me in the right direction I'd be forever grateful. I will be referring to you videos when I do find a quick change box and or invest in a mill to do a better job of really restoring the old girl because I like the way you work and think, and your videos are very informative. You can buy bushings at any transmission (not vehicle) supplier. Places that sell bearings. I buy from a local place but McMaster is a good source on line.
