What a great share ! The stories were a great bonus to an awesome project . Going to SWEET when it's finished .. Keep the vids and the stories coming ..ENJOYED
Great story and thx for sharing both story and restoration start. I looked for a 7in for a couple of years, but when a Klopp 450mm came up 15 miles away, had to go check it out.As a new sub, will be back to see the first chips of your flying for sure. Have needle scaled off the heavy paint and filler material, time for the hand sanders to finish up. Bear in Tx.
Thank you so much! I looked for a couple of years too. These machines are getting hard to find. I had to look up the Klopp 450mm shaper and WOW! That is a sweet machine. My problem is that I love so many machines. You can do some serious work on that beast. Thank you for the sub and I hope you enjoy the rest of the build......
You broke up and paced that story well. That is great content. Video of cleaning, audio of stories. Nice one. Interesting how you mentioned dropping bombs on time. I remember when I was swinging spanners on 75 SQN, how seriously the Knucks took the time on target stuff. Like aiming to drop within seconds of of the assigned time. Could be some more stories there.
Thank you so much! I really tried to pace my story like you and another guy I watch called Keith Appleton. He builds and repairs model steam engines. I think he's British. However, I thought you were British, LOL. Time on target is everything! We did everything to the second! I do have a story for that. And thank you again.....
Great story. Nice progress on the shaper. Have you ever considered a media blast cabinet for cleaning parts I use mine all the time for stuff like this. Too bad you are enjoying your hobby so much, I hear airlines are in a hiring mode…..😜
34 years of flying for a living is enough. I'm LOVING my hobbies. When I first got out of the Air Force, no one was hiring. You're right that it's hiring mode. And thank you very much.....
@@jster1963 My best friend from high school days was an Air Force jet engine mechanic. He was such a good trouble shooter that they would fly him anywhere in the world to trouble shoot engines. I tried to enlist in the AF when I graduated from Engineering School but it was at the end of the Vietnam War when everyone was coming home and they did not need me.
@@sharkrivermachine I remember talking to an 18 year old looking mechanic in Korea that had a GE110 engine taken down to nuts and bolts laid out on a table. I said "You know how to put that engine together?" He said "You know how to fly it?" I said "Touche!" I trusted my life to those guys. You had bad timing. But it's cool that you would want to enlist after the horrible way the Viet Nam vets were treated. And thank you.....
@@jster1963 Your stories have touched me. I was in college during those tumultuous years. The only reason that I did not end up in Vietnam was because of luck on the draft lottery. Keep up the good videos.
Hey Jster liked the stripdown and loved the story. I'm not sure that recollections of a transmission development engineer will pep up my content, though. Looking forward to the next episode. All the best, Mart in England.
Not sure if a transmission development engineer would be very exciting. I was an engineering student working for General Motors throughout college and as an engineer for 3 months before I went into the Air Force. It wasn't very exciting, LOL. But thank you for the kind words! It's so cool that someone overseas would watch my videos. Thanks again...
800lb, thats some where around 115gl, "O" when I was with the Air Gard One of my aug jobs was refueling Lots of F100 down south, I was a RAFSB with the LANG
The Berlin wall hadn't fallen when I was first in the military. The Soviets were who we trained to fight. Later, it was the Middle East. And thank you very much.....
I really enjoyed this format thank you I know it's not what the channel is about but I wonder what the general consensus would be about you doing a review of the new Top Gun film when it's finally launched - just as a one off...
I was in my last year of college and had a pilot slot when the first movie came out. I was so stoked that I was going to get to be like "Maverick." Once I became a fighter pilot, I realized how "Hollywood" they made that movie. I still like it, but it's so crazy fake. I'm not sure people would like what I would have to say. My wife always tells me "Quit ruining the movie for me" when I get going, LOL. But I may be able to be talked into that. And thank you very much.....
Thank you so much! I was active duty 5 1/2 years (after Gulf War 1, they were letting guys out early and I took it because I wanted to get with the airlines and the Guard) and left as a Captain. I flew for the Michigan Air National Guard after active duty for 2 years as well. I was Captain there too. And thank you again.....
I would love to plug and play, but the machines I buy are in such bad shape, they won't work. And I do like making old things look new. And thank you very much.....
You asked what I did and as otheres asked me what did I fly , veh mant, motor pool, my aug job was crash rescue, I drove a O11A, lots of broken arrows training, you we see these in old AF movies like the movies that stares the B36, so what kin of boom is painted wite with a green ban around it, the movies get it all wrong
