With the Rook 65L you can hold trekking poles in the side mesh and under the top cinch straps. That’s how I carry mine when not in use.

Great comparison guys! I have been bouncing between the Rook 65, Atmos 65, and the Aether 60 for some time now. It's nice to have my two top contenders side by side. I also appreciate the stretch front pocket for easily stowing layers, and the added comfort, quality, and adjustability has pushed me more towards the Atmos. I just love the front access J-zipper, removable day pack, and orange colour of the Aether! Decisions decisions...

Oh we totally get it, Ry! So many features to choose from! But we think the best bet is to decide what feature or features you can’t live without and go with that pack! You know, just until Osprey makes a pack with a J zipper, stash pocket, full adjustability, daypack attachment AND the best colors! 😂

Nice review you two. Very helpful. My son has the Atmos 50. I'm looking to get him into a 65 and saw that the Rook was a new comparable pack for less. Wasn't sure which way to go. For what he needs you review helped me decide. Sticking with the Atmos.

Hi. Very well done! I appreciate it because I'm transitioning from an old 1996 model external frame pack to the current models. Based on what I've heard and seen, I've narrowed my choice down to the REI Traverse 70 and the Osprey Atmos AG 65. Therefore, your detailed video has made it easier for me to make a decision. For the Rook. You could run some bungy cord X style through the lash points and use a toggle. This would almost work as well as a stash pocket for a jacket or climbing helmet etc. Can't really go too wrong with the rook, hey its an osprey after all :)

Daylight Daypack? Can't find this online, seems like they do something different called a Hikelite? Can you explain more how the smaller packs fit to the Rook? Is that a design feature or your own strategy? I think this is a great selling point for the Rook. Thanks!

I own both these packs. although, strangely, I use the Rook more than the Atmos. Why? (weight) the Rook's weight is 1.6kg (empty) and for 65L pack of this size and with metal frame is impressively lightweight. However, I do miss the front stuff pocket and the mesh pocket under the hood. With these packs been able to carry a (max) load of 40lb-Rook and 50lb-Atmos is also very impressive indeed. Although, I would go mid weight on both these packs. Excellent review on these packs by Osprey....👍👍👍

Great video! I have the Atmos 65 AG and I use it to travel the world. It's so awesome and much more comfortable than other packs I've had that I also use it as a day pack without the top lid. By the way, I'm also vegan!

The Atmos is marketed as a men’s pack. The woman’s specific version is called the Aura.

Amazing!!! Hi from Indonesia Just wanted to share First I found this video it was have confused what is the exactly deference about Osprey Rook And Renn which’s for man and woman , actually i was used Osprey Aether 65 AG it was on 2019 its the most my favorite one , now iam living in Dubai and i plan traveling back to Indonesia then I decide to buy backpacks from Osprey and I choose Renn one, then I love it but just i know that Osprey Renn is for women so this make me confused I choose the wrong one? So at the end after I watch this video in minute 0:51 that make me sure and iam not feel it 😁 Great job guys , i like the way doing for review . Good luck !!! Great review. The Osprey Almighty warranty...thing...will be priced into the initial cost of the pack, which may give a distorted cost/value consideration. I bought a 70+10 Vango Sherpa for £80, and if I'm not happy I will be returning it whatever warranty applies. The cheaper Osprey packs are no better than the generic competitors. At the lower end, you are paying for the name. The top end stuff is superb, admittedly.

You really are not the Rook back panel alone is far superior to most basic genetic packs like the Vango Sherpa. It weighs a lot less too. It's hardly that much more expensive but you get a proper lifetime guarantee that the company always did and still do honour to the full. If your Vango buckles all snap off in a year you throw it away. Osprey would replace the buckles 5 years down the road or even give you a brand new latest model nearest to your old packs specifications.

The difference in carrying comfort between these hangin systems is felt not "even" when the bags are empty, it is felt only when the bags are empty. Whatever the real effect comes from it is not from the beautiful but mechanicaly useless integration of straps, back mesh and belt. This is a pure aesthetics and marketing. Nice review though anyway.

We’ve actually found the Atmos to be more comfortable when carrying heavy loads. Otherwise, totally agree, the fancy mechanics of adjusting the back panel aren’t entirely necessary since you’re only adjusting them once when you purchase the pack. They’re both great bags though! If you don’t need the extra features then the Rook is definitely a winner.

@@Terradrift Atmos is great. My point was just that it is great under real load not due to this visible element (how shoulder straps, back and the belt made to look like a single detail), but due to other smart geometry decisions. Big part of it is its more sophisticated belt. And I use front pocket a lot too :) . So here I vote for Atmos anyway.

Actuaaaaally the female backpacks frames are built for a smaller physical frame such as naturally many females, and the larger physical frames for mens generally larger build. No reason a female couldn’t use whichever they wanted of course 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Yeah! i went for a Mens backpack because im tall and on the plus size. I usually buy unisex or mens gear, so i figured it will be ok for me. But the reality is that i have a short torso and long legs, so it feels a little off on me. My next backpack will definitely be the women's version.
