The demand for Smart TVs is going high every day with the rise in OTT Content which is streaming 4K and Atmos Movies and Shows. And to cater to these needs, in 2019, HDMI Organization released HDMI 2.1 version with a new feature called as eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel) support. This advancement has a higher bandwidth, giving you a better audio quality and support for more immersive audio formats, such as uncompressed surround sound and Dolby Atmos.
But as we spoke about this in one of our previous videos, that you need an eARC Compatible TV or Projector for content source and display and a Soundbar / AV Receiver which has got eARC HDMI Ports. By building such compatibility network, you will be able to achieve Atmos.
But today, the old ARC (Audio Return Channel) TVs can, however, allow you to send/receive Dolby Atmos audio from streaming services such as Netflix, Disney Plus and Amazon Prime Video, as these services embed Dolby Atmos in the lossy Dolby Digital Plus format which ARC can handle.

Hi Tanmay I have bought a new Sony Bravia A 80L and it has EARC output. I have Sony home theatre system, which has only ARC and not EARC. Kindly suggest what need to be done to get a better audio output. Currently, I am using ARC port of my home theatre.

Just use a good quality HDMI Cable 👍🏻 Atmos maybe missed as your home theater won’t support it

Sir, I bought Sony 4K HDR TV with eARC port and I have Denon AVR-X2800H receiver and really, I got very good Atmos sound effect through eARC, Google TV have much more app option so if any person has subscription plan in OTT platform like Netflix / Disney Hotstar / Zee5 (given Atmos effect) except Amazon (don't know the reason) and have Soundbar or AVR, then they can get very immersive Atmos sound effect. I had also Amazon 4K fire TV stick which can give Atmos effect in selected OTT platform but i heard best Atmos sound effect when i connect my receiver with HDMI eARC port, that time very good Atmos effect I got which i not get from Fire TV 4K stick, I have experience with both platform like Fire TV stick and todays lates any brand 4K HDR TV with eARC port, and the winner is eARC, this is my personal option.

Hi Tanmay, I have an atmos soundbar with ARC port, and Dolby pass through. The input of the soundbar are normal hdmi. If I use a 4k firestick through normal hdmi input, and using the pass through connect it to my old tv, will I receive complete Atmos or will it be a compressed atmos?

I don't have eARC port in my TV but if I connect any Movie Streamer directly to AVR, then can we get lossless Dolby atmos audio output since it doesn't depend on Audio return channel in this case?

Absolutely. Just ensure that the movie streamer has Atmos support. For instance, instead of Firestick 4K the 4K max is better for Atmos output

Hey Asit, if your bluray player is Atmos compatible and Firestick is the 4K Max one, then you will get Atmos for the relevant atmos content. You have to connect these devices to HDMI Inputs of Soundbar. And the video output will go to Epson projector. In case you need better price for Epson 9400, then click here - bit.ly/mehtanmay

Content HAS to be coded for Atmos. eARC/ARC can handle the bandwidth throughput from decompression. If the content is not Atmos, the the next lowest backward compatible codec will be used such as Dolby trueHD. So, whatever the content, if it's not specifically indicating Atmos, you're only getting the highest surround technology available for decoding. It doesn't just turn into Atmos.

Yes. That connection is right. So that only video is sent to Tv and audio is pulled out by Soundbar

Due to ARC port the signal will be compressed to Dolby Digital Plus. You can still buy an Atmos soundbar and connect firestick to Soundbar’s input for enjoying uncompressed atmos

HT-Z9F is Atmos bar without eARC. So the inputs can give you better Atmos output for Atmos signal

Check if your soundbar has HDMI input. If it has, then connect the stick to soundbar HDMI input and output/arc to TV’s HDMI input

You will not get atmos as the output port of TV is not eARC. With other way round, lossy atmos was possible. But in case you want to lay a better cable, then use HDMI 2.1v cable

what to do with my bose soundbar 900 as it has only hdmi earc input. so my tv or projector has only arc. this way i never get atmos from my appletv as apple tv ends up being connected to tv hdmi and the arc back to soundbar. when i looked upon the only option i see thats legit is hdfury arcana dolby atmos extractor which is sold for more than 30,000 rs. (1346aed) in dubai. any other method or way to handle this? i cannot connect apple tv directly to bose 900.

Hdmi eARC is a port that allows you to transfer lossless Dolby Atmos signal to an external audio system, which can be in the form of Atmos Soundbar or Atmos AVR + Spk setup

just simply plug your firestick 4k tv to sound bar hdmi in, then connect your soundbar to tv via earc port,. if the sound bar has only hdmi port then you have to use Orei 4k hdmi earc extractor model 939 with 1 hdmi in and 3 hdmi output

@@gauravrana2044 if sound bar has only one hdmi port which is eARC, then the best solution is to use Orei hdmi extractor with 1 hdmi input and 2 hdmi audio output and 1 hdmi video output. connect your firestick 4 k to hdmi in of the extractor, then hdmi video output of the extractor to any hdmi in of tv, then hdmi audio output of the extractor to earc of your sound bar. and you are good to go

The soundbar may not have the Audio Lip sync settings. The better thing is to do it in your TV Audio Settings.

I still cant understand this arc, earc, atmos, dd+. My samsung full hd tv has only hdmi arc.. But its sound expert settings has dolby compatibility option.. With message turn on if the audio device support atmos. But i cant select it.. Will it get enabled once i connect the atmos soundbar? Can i get atmos?

But I am not able to use the audio passthrough feature of my tv coz, whenever I'm doing that a Chirping kind of sound is coming out of my speakers. Can u help me regarding the issue? OK my TV is 2017 Panasonic TH-50EX730Z and only has ARC. It doesn't support Atmos but does have Dolby Digital Plus. However should I be able to get Atmos through Netflix onboard TV App if I connect the TV ARC port to the my new Samsung Q800B Soundbar eARC In port? Netflix and other streaming services seem to only stream Atmos as Dolby Digital Plus. It says Dolby Digital Plus in the soundbar display when I play an Atmos movie. Thus I assume Im getting Atmos but a compressed version of it. Thus do I really need a 2.1 HDMI cable if the streaming service is compressed Atmos? I bought a 2022 Apple 4K TV box too. As my TV doesn't support eARC should I connect the Apple TV to the HDMI IN on the soundbar and then the eARC port on the soundbar to the TV ARC? Netflix also say the TV has to support Atmos to get their movies in that format as well as the sound system. Whilst I see Atmos on the Amazon Prime movie titles that have it Netflix just says 5.1. Im hoping with the Apple 4K TV box Ill get the Netflix titles showing Atmos. Otherwise I think I will need a new TV?????? Also the cable that came with the Q800B says High Speed HDMI. It doesn't have any other marks. How do you know if the cable is HDMI 2.1?

Hi bro , i have denon dht 216 Soundbar with built in subwoofer. It has options for adding additional sub through cable. So my question is if i add a sub the i will get more bass.and which is the good subwoofer for good punchy bass?

Yes, you can always do that. A good sub will depend based on your viewing distance and room size.

Yes I took observed that with Dolby access we can get true hd. But I have a problem please solve this... My laptop is only 720p resolution Lenovo... To get true hd I need to play with the inbuilt player (movies app) from the laptop for 1080 p videos it's not an issue but for 4k video it says not supported.. is there a way that I can get 4k video and Dolby true hd please help

if your tv and avr are both connected to arc port, then just plug your firestick tv 4k to any hdmi input of the avr and you are good to go. your new avr must support 4k so as not to compromised the video quality, that is my present set up usingJTech 4k e arc/arc hdmi extractor going to my old prologic Ii avr. i connect my firestick to hdmi input of jtech hdmi extractor , sound goes to optical input of my avr and video to tv via arc port

Very informative video. I have 10 years Tv with Non ARC and non-eARC HDMI ports. I am planning to buy 5.1.2 channel home theatre supporting Dolby Atmos along buying with Amazon fire stick with Dolby Atmos. Kindly guide me as to how will I be able to enjoy Dolby Atmos in such set up. Thanks.

if your new avr has hdmi video out port like arc/erc,,take that and connect to tv. then connect your firestick 4k max directly to any hdmi in of avr. you are getting atmos signal if your avr is displaying atmos logo, and from netflix content it will change the 5.1 logo to atmos logo.

Thanks Tanmay. What if I have a 4K TV with eARC and AV Receiver with just ARC? I would be streaming content from TV and audio from the receiver. Will the receiver still decode Atmos / DTS X?

It will be compressed Atmos signal to either Dolby Digital Plus or Atmos!

Dear sir, I am looking to setup 5.1.2 To start with I am planning Denon 1700h and Taga 5.0 607F around 1.5 lakh. Pls advise if you were me, what brand/model you will choose in 1.5 lakh.. for atmos amp and 5.0 tower speakers

Considering the atmos AVRs start from 85-90k today, it leaves with very less options for speaker package. So Taga can be one option, Polk Fusion T, the second.

Am televizor hisense E76GQ eArc, cu format audio Dolby Atmos și DTS X virtual, și sounbar LG SP9YA eArc, Dolby Atmos plus toate formatele audio. Amândouă 2.1. Pot scoate Dolby Atmos de pe aplicația Netflix sunet necomprimat fără pierderi? Am abonament Netflix premium. Sau trebuie obligatoriu un blue ray 4K? Vă mulțumesc.🙏

@@thedarkknight095 Firetv cant give you better sound. It can only pass the audio to dedicated sound setup. If you're connecting to TV, your tv speaker will be used. Otherwise , you need to use HDMI splitter with audio extractor (You can search for amazon HDMI splitter with optical audio. If you give optical out to our sound system (if you dont have it separately , this will be the best way). I used this on my basic philips soundbar. When i got a good soundbar (around a lakh), i got a separate port

I have connected my Iffalcon Android TV output to my Denon 1400H Receiver through a 4K HDMI hub. This is to ensure that the output from my Xbox, Streaming device, etc. to both TV and Projector. However, with this setup, I am unable to get audio thru the receiver. I have connected TV to receiver using optical cable. Any other solution to get audio from TV to receiver using eArc?

optical cable cant carry large amount of data compare to hdmi, this is the reason why you are not getting atmos

Hi bro, i have samsung UA48H6400 smart tv and zebronics 9800dws soundbar connected to arc port from soundbar output port. i have Amazon fire stick 3rd generation which supports Dolby atmos but I can't able to see the contents while playing

I dont know if this will work. From your tv go to sound settings and advanced settings, in Digital Audio output change it to pass through. Then go to Netflix and open any movie which has atmos audio and you will find the atmos logo visible now. Let me know if this helped.

Tanmay, I am still looking for a decent 4K projector under 2 Lakhs. Should i go for Horizon pro or eposon 3LCD one? It is not a dedicated room/but will be fixed . I've the soundbar and not looking at sound quality from projector ! Please suggest

Hey Rajeshji, Epson 3LCD is the best fit if you are looking for a fixed installed projector. XGIMI is only recommended for portability. As a projector, it may not be the ideal one for fixed installed application!

defenitly you can, buy a streaming device that support atmos like apple tv, nvidia, firestick max, then buy arcana or orei decoder for atmos, plug your streaming device to hdmi in of either device , then connect the output to tv hdmi in and the other output to hdmi in of the sound bar, use hdmi 2.1 cable for uncompressed audio signal and you are good to go.

You forgot to mention that only when watching from a UHD Bluray contents can you get uncompressed Atmos or Dolby TrueHD For streaming contents you cant, you only get the compressed Atmos or Dolby Digital Plus. There arent any streaming services that offers uncompressed Atmos contents since its too big of a bandwith hence the compressed version.

@@TanmayMehta As per Bruce, even the 4k firestick will give us compressed atmos, if true then does eARC and ARC make any difference because the end result is anyway a compressed signal.
