Hi friends! I have been waiting all year to share some of my favorite wintery books with you! These books have helped me fall even more in love with winter. They're magical, full of snow covered cabins, journey's across the arctic, winter wonderlands, romance, yule logs & mistletoe, grand hotels in the mountains, and some of them involve murder (if you're like me and consider murder mysteries as cozy books lol) and they all have such good winter vibes. I hope you enjoy!
🕯️Books I forgot to mention:
The Christmas Chronicles // Nigel Slater
Mistletoe and Murder: A Murder Most Unladylike Mystery // Robin Stevens
Any Heidi Swain books!
Tale of The Winter Lands // J. D. Bass (this one is SO good!)
🕯️ People mentioned:

One of my favourite Christmas reads is The Twelve Clues of Christmas by Rhys Bowen. It’s set in the early 1900s (perhaps during the war?) in a tiny village in England and is a stand-alone book in the “Her Royal Spyness” series. If you like a cosy, quintessential English Christmas, this book has it all!

The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins is a book I just finished. It's a book about a place called Dove Pond, NC, and the town was founded by a family with the last name Dove and every couple of generations there are 7 sisters born in this family with a magical gift. This is the first book and it's about one of the sisters named Sarah and books talk to her...they really TALK to her! Lol. She has a way of giving the right book to the right person at certain times and this book centers around a woman named Grace that moves very reluctantly to Dove Pond with her niece and her adoptive mother who's family was from Dove Pond originally.

My favourite winter book this year was The Winterhouse Series. It is a middle Grade Trilogy and takes place in a Castlelike Hotel around Christmas. And there is reading and skiing and ice skating involved and I just loved the books. My alltime favourite childrens book is the Winter Book out of the seasons of The Mice Of Brambly Hedge. These books are the most cosy, cute, quaint childrens books I ever read.... love your videos BTW!!!!!!!!!!!

It contains 10 classic crime stories by authors such as Ruth Rendell, John Mortimer, , Margery Allingham as well as others. The synopsis says it all and I can't wait to read it!

Coming back here after reading A Holiday by Gaslight by Mimi Matthews! I love, love the book! Sophie and Ned's chemistry is unmatched. I was swooning over them from start to finish. I can't stress enough how I adore the book. Thank you for recommending it! I love your recommendations. I know it's June and I'm supposed to be reading summer books of some sort, but...I'm reading Christmas On The Island next.💖 P.S. I've read the first three books in the Anne of Green Gables series which I enjoyed very much as well. And I read Persuasion, my second Jane Austen Book. And I liked it, too. All thanks to you, you inspired me to read them. Love you and your contents!💖😘

In the mystery genre, you might like Ragnor Jonasson's Snowblind which takes place in northern Iceland. Also, William Kent Krueger's Cork O'connor series, which takes place in Minnesota, is very atmospheric. It also deals with the relations between Native Americans and the non native population. Delves into what it means to be Native American, or part Native Amey. Start with Iron Lake.

I highly, highly recommend the Winter Night trilogy (The Bear and the Nightingale, The Girl in the Tower, The Winter of the Witch) by Katherine Arden! The story is set in medieval (I think) Russia and basically revolves around old Russian fairytales. While people are starting to forget them due to the strong influence of Christianity, the girl Wasja has the second sight: She can see all the creatures from the fairytales for they are actually real. We follow Wasja all through her childhood and youth where she faces big problems for being different and not conforming to the then existing gender rules. She is deemed a witch, outcast and struggling to find her place in the world. There is a lot of adventure, mystery and magic, but also a lot of depth, struggle and tragedy. The language of the books is very vivid and simply beautiful. There are no books which will make you feel the winter atmosphere stronger!

If you like "A Holiday by Gaslight" I would recommend "In Pursuit of a Gentleman" by Arlem Hawks AND "The Captain and Miss Winter" by Sally Britton. They're both a part of the Regency Fairy Tale Retelling series which I adore all of but these are particularly wintery settings perfect for winter and Christmas time. They're sweet short reads so if you're looking for something to pick up and devour these are for you. Also, IPoaG will make you crave gingerbread cookies.

Just thought I'd mention it for your clock behind you, to give off a happier vibe (if it's an actual working clock that just has dead batteries ignore me but for display purposes, it's worth considering 😉

Another amazing wintery book is The Wolf Princess by Cathryn Constable. Please don't roll your eyes at the title; it's a novel about orphan Sophie who is very excited to go on a school trip to Russia with her two best friends, but the trio is separated from their schoolmates and lost in the harsh Russian winter storms. They get rescued by a very beautiful princess who seems to be keeping many, many secrets ... I won't say anything more to avoid spoilers but believe me, this is one of my all time favourite books, it is elegantly written and the setting is just magical, and I think a lot of us will relate with Sophie. It's full of suspense and cosiness and I loved it so, so much. ❄️💙

I totally get that! I prefer to buy books from my local stores as well. Especially my local used book store. I shop there probably more than anywhere else. But I do often discover books online, and then find that my small local bookstores don’t carry them. For example, none of my local bookstores carried “A Holiday by Gaslight” and they can usually order it, but it often takes a long time to arrive, so I ordered that one on Amazon 🙈 or a lot of books that I want that are published in the UK, are also difficult to find here. So I do like having the option of Amazon ☺️
