I have to say it. There is NO WAY you watched Murder on the Orient Express from 1974 and still like the new version. The old one recreates the Orient Express as it was exactly. The cast is spot on: Anthony Perkins, Lauren Bacall, Albert Finney, Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman... The aesthetic is wonderfull, the costumes, the soundtrack. Also some of the lines that don't even appear in the novel that are pricessless: Hercule Poirot : You never smile, madame la princesse? Princess Dragomiroff : My doctor has advised against it. My favourite movie of all time.
I’ve literally been eating up all the hallmark Christmas movies this past week... it felt a little dirty in the beginning but so many people have been doing the same that I no longer feel the shame😂
The Anne of Green Gables series with Megan Follows playing Anne Shirley. This is the version that I grew up with and it is one of my favorite costume series! Haven't watched Anne with an E (yet) because I love Megan Follows as Anne can't imagine anyone else playing the part as well!
I'm so glad you mentioned American Girl! I had Samantha and Addy. The Samantha movie was so good, I loved it when I was a kid. There are some American Girl mystery novels that are great too!
Hi Desi, The Little House episode you were highlighting is titled: A Christmas They Never Forgot. Thank you for the heads up on Anne With an E it's right up my alley. (Some of us men a major suckers for pretty much all you have discussed!) Regards.
While You Were Sleeping is one of my favorite movies ever. Doesn't get any better than some old school Sandra Bullock! It's definitely a great holiday movie.
Meet Me In St Louis is my FAVOURITE winter movie. You would LOVE it. Grand Victorian Houses, beautiful dresses, sisters, Christmas balls, dancing, romance with the boy next door, family 😍 Everything you need
I tried to watch Anne with an E, and I hated it. I absolutely love Anne of Green Gables, and I felt like Anne with an E took all of the worst parts and multiplied them by 10. I did love the scenery and the more modern (feminist and such) messages, but all of the actors were terrible, and it was so much more dark than the book. *Other people, if you insist on watching the TV show, at least read the book first so that you have the perspective.* I didn't like it, but maybe other people would. Either way, *please* read the book first.
So glad you recommended Anne Brontë! She's my favorite author out of the Brontë sisters and I'm always saddened to see her overlooked by so many people.
Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher is the perfect winter novel. You would love it because the scene is set in Scotland/England. I read this book in one day. It’s so good! It’s a must read!
Aww thank you! I don't know if I'm confident enough to do a makeup tutorial... I have no idea how to really use makeup.. But maybe someday! For my blush, I've actually been mixing two different blushes together recently :) Here are the links for the two: www.milanicosmetics.com/products/rose-powder-blush (in color "wild rose") www.milanicosmetics.com/products/baked-blush?variant=47991657743&flow_country=USA& (in color "02 Rose D'oro")
I just finished All That Heaven Allows after watching your video and IT WAS OPTIMUM WINTERY ROMANCE VIBES *swoon* I absolutely loved it, thank you for the recommendation, I'd never have watched it otherwise!
A book that I read every year in December for many years is In the Land of Winter by Richard Grant. It's magical realism but set in the struggles of a real life, about a young woman coming into her own power leading up to the winter solstice. And having NOTHING to do with winter or cosy, but you mentioning Murder on the Orient Express made me think of movies set on trains, an amazing feel good movie is The Darjeeling Express. Also, have you ever seen The Three Lives of Thomasina. It's an old Disney movie that I think you'd adore. Not specifically snowy, but it does include British rain storms and a cosy "witch's cottage".
Please please please make a video on train-vibe books and movies.. I just love that idea.. that is such a specific vibe.. cozy, but on a journey at the same time..🚂🚞🚉 This was an absolutely delightful video by the way! Thank you for it! ❄️✨🙏💝
I love Anne of Green Gables anything, and the new series Anne with E is amazing Im super disappointed it was cancelled but Ive signed the petition to get it back and I have faith it will be picked back up haha! I have never heard of Winters Tale and I can't believe I haven't seen it because it looks/sounds so good! I will definitely be watching that this season!
Hey desi I know it’s been nearly a year since this video was put up but I highly recommend watching The box of Delights this winter. It’s a gorgeous mystical story set in England in the 1935 surrounding Christmas. It’s got similar vibes to the lion the witch and the wardrobe and I think you’d love it
My absolute favorite winter movie is A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott as Scrooge. There are a couple of deviations from the book (one of the spirits has a different appearance and one early scene was removed), but other than that it's VERY faithful to the original Dickens story, especially with the dialogue. The costumes, the music, the best Scrooge, I just love it
After nobody answered my story on Instagram to recommend Winter books, I knew I had to check your video. You always give the best book and film recommendations! We have similar taste :)
I’m pretty late on christmas time (but it’s always send cosy vibes no matter the date :D ) but I believe that you love Tolkien, so I would recommend you "Letters from Father Christmas ». In this book, Tolkien writes letters to his children during their childhood and passes himself as Santa Claus. It’s cute and full of magic ! I love it !
I have been loving all your cozy fall and winter videos. I’ve also been making all the desserts you have shown too. So far the pumpkin cheesecake muffins and apple rose pie. I also love the vintage movie recommendations.
Sometimes it helps to read while listening to the audio book! Some stuff is easier to hear than to read, and sometimes doing both helps you really soak it in
This is such a fantastic list! As a former professor who has dealt with spousal abuse, I'm not a huge fan of Brontë, but I'm so glad people are reading classics for FUN! Reading should never be a punishment in any way. Your "Some of my other favorite winter movies & books" contained the movies I would suggest, though I do love ELF, LAST CHRISTMAS, and RUDOLPH AND THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS a lot.
OH! And thank you so much for adding in the notes where we can catch the movies you mentioned! We could of course Google ourselves, but you've saved us time, and it is appreciated! It's a thoughtful touch that shows you care, and we see that. :)
PLEASE watch the original Murder on the Orient Express. It’s one of my favorite movies and is LEAGUES better than the remake!! All-star cast-Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Anthony Perkins, Sir John Gielgud, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, shall I go on? Ugh I didn’t like the remake at all. 😢
Oh my goodness I was OBSESSED with the Felicity movie, but I remember the Samantha one being really good too and having really cozy winter vibes! I'm so glad you included that one. My mom and I just recently watched the Kit movie, but I've been wanting to rewatch more of the American Girl movies!
Thank you very much for all your sweet videos. One of may favorite movies for the winter season is "LADYHAWKE" (1985) with Michelle Pfeiffer and Mathew Broderick. Hope you like it as well. Happy Holidays!
It's really hard to find but if you can I highly recommend (book) The Legend of Holly Claus. Basically she's Santa's daughter but it's more of a Winter King/Winter Princess vibe. Then she has to go to the human world to escape this evil sorcerer and she starts making dolls for children and she falls in love with a human and IT'S JUST SO GOOD. I read it as a child and have not stopped thinking about it to this day.
Mr. Edwards (Isaiah Edwards, and the actor is Victor French) is the friend who walks through the snow - I love Little House on the Prairie!! Thank you for some fun recommendations.
The Substitute Guest by Grace Livingston Hill! A very sweet story that takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! I love it and reread every December
I have 4 American Girl dolls that were given two me as a child. I have Felicity, Addy, Josephina, and Molly. They have re-released the full American Girl history collection for the 35th anniversary. I am tempted to get my missing two: Samantha and Kristian.
Happy Thanksgiving Desi! I'm excited to watch Winter's Tale! And I had an American girl doll too. I had Felicity! I've always been fascinated by colonial America. Thank you for all these suggestions!
I've just finished Sleigh Rides and Silver Bells and it's such a lovely cosy Christmas read, I just loved it! I read it on your recommendation as I was looking for an easy, feel good book to get me back into reading again after a few years, and this definitely did the trick! ❤️
Have you read or heard of “Way Past Winter” By Kiran Millwood Hargrave ? It’s a children’s book but I think you would enjoy it. I am reading it with my daughter and even as an adult I am intrigued just as any adult would be with certain children’s tales 😊
Origin of snow child comes not from "russian fairy tale😁", russian only are able to steal ideas but nit produce their own. The origin comes from german folklore, and it is a very grim story of a frozen to death young girl
I was obsessed with Kit the AG doll. I never had one but loved the books and the magazine and dreamed of having one. I did go to an American girl tea party a few times at the library . Good times 💛
I love the Snow Child!! Deffo worth a re read. I also really recommend reading Dash and Lily's book of Dares, it's been my go to cosy book for so many years, the series is pretty good but the book!! will light your bookish heart on fire I'm sure xx
I know very very late to this video hahaha but I hope you read this cause I love your channel and really want to help you out haha: It is said: Air-cule-pwa-roh Cule like Two (as close to that U sound as possible) I hope this helps haha
@Darling Desi ....you look absolutely beautiful and sooooo glowy in this video...also GREAT recommendations!! I’ve always LOVED Chronicles of Narnia!! ❄️
