This video talks about the preperation of antimony tin oxide coatings that go above titanium for the purpose of producing inert electrodes that can withdstand whatever solution at current densities up to 250ma/cm^2.

Nice project. I love seeing the variety of novel methods that you expose with the help of your friends and that I would never know if it weren't thanks to this amazing channel :3

btw the lead nitrate byproduct is something you may have to deal with if the source of tin used is metal solder wire. Using pure tin will not have this issue

I have a bunch of European pewter scrap, it's an alloy of 92% tin, 2% copper and 6% antimony. Would that be suitable for use in this preparation?
@CatboyChemicalSociety
@CatboyChemicalSociety 5 месяцев назад
@@bromisovalum8417 yes directly and after reaction from nitric to produce tin and antimony oxides which copper stays in solution. You can take the slop and dry it and cook in boiling 30% HCl

I'm intrigued by the whole project and how you will use this to plate an electrode, it's like a secret and you tease with the small details! lol

I have made a full process on DTO substrate PbO2 3 part series you know.

@@CatboyChemicalSociety So I see, I think I now need some antimony trichloride to complete this, i'm not sure where i'll find that.

@@hanleypc youcan use other dopants like ceric chloride or idium chloride

Can I use this elcetrode for perchlorate production ?
@CatboyChemicalSociety

When PbO2 is plated ontop yes but also when Mn doped as a thin overcoat

@@CatboyChemicalSociety without PbO2 it will not make perchlorate only chlorate ?
@CatboyChemicalSociety
@CatboyChemicalSociety Год назад
@@patrikorsuliak8137 it can alone but you better get your dopants right which means use pure tin and antimony. MnO2 is an alternative overcoat to PbO2 that can make perchlorate but needs very specific baking temp. Future video on that

@@patrikorsuliak8137 if u watched my video then PbO2 is easy to plate with the NaOH and Pb2 oxide or salt mix

Can tin oxide be used without doping? I mean just tin oxide coating and then lead coating, would it be crappy? I can't get hold of antimony or cerium.

Ebay or aliexpress should have both, or whatever similar sites operate in your country.

10% the weight of tin (IV) chloride (66.51g) so 6.65 grams of antimony (III) chloride? and 80% the weight of tin (IV) chloride (66.51g) so 53.24 grams of ethanol?
@CatboyChemicalSociety
@CatboyChemicalSociety 5 месяцев назад
You need atleast 4x volume of ethanol as the concentrate so more than that around like 180g ethanol. I do 6 or 8x ethanol tho sometimes and it just limits water content really.

@@CatboyChemicalSociety Im confused and I cant understand, can you simplify the ratio of each substance?
@CatboyChemicalSociety
@CatboyChemicalSociety 5 месяцев назад
@@plyxxx9073 let's say you have 10g of tin 4 chloride you then can add 4g of antimony trichloride and then about 40g of ethanol to dilute it. This gives a ratio of 28% antimony to 72% tin which is close to the maximum 30% antimony but you can go as low as 10% antimony and it won't affect performance.

@@CatboyChemicalSociety Ethanol/Methanol - 74.07% Antimony(III) Chloride - 7.41% Tin(IV) Chloride - 18.52% That is base on the ratio that you give which has a total of 54 grams.

@@CatboyChemicalSocietyBtw does bubbling hcl gas required if you use 35 percent concentration of hydrochloric acid to react with metastannic acid? And if so, how long does it take for this to complete? Also, is it also required to bubble hcl gas to the ethanol solution of tin tetrachloride pentahydrate and antimony trichloride? ( Im sorry for asking you so many questions I just want to be sure. Thank you! )
