There's optimism, to be sure! Definitely check out/watch for Gold Squadron Podcast's events, I believe they're running a big one this year: www.goldsquadronpodcast.com/sectorseries
That was the hope! Also the retrospective was helpful for me to track the process/progress as a whole, rather than stressing about where my Scum SL's are XD I didn't even get in to how SLs and Loadout Values protect the game's long-term balance by adding levers to pull to keep things in line in the future
Totally get it - I have *seven* Interceptors, not looking to get new ones when they come out XD Buuuut, at the bare minimum, the box release put them in Standard, yes?
This is nothing new. Those that were around in 1st edition will recall the running joke that the StarViper ship pack was dubbed the 'Autothrusters upgrade pack'. The Star Viper was not a bad ship, it was just costed wrong and in 1.0 ship cost were printed on the cards and not really possible to change. Still doesn't make it right... but its unfortunately the name of the game\business.
I don't really believe it to be honest. The massive clearance sales (50-70% off) we saw recently really gave me the impression this game is going to be discontinued. On the other hand due to those massive sales there is a huge x-wing hype now going on in my gaming group. We would have bever started at full price, but now we are seven or eight new players.
Fair take, I absolutely could be wrong - all I really wanted to outline is that what they've done all taken together looks very measured and strategic, not at all the way each individual step may have looked as it was done XD
I just passed my one year mark of playing. I have made every mistake in the book so I can totally understand why it's hard to get into this game. When I first made my purchases of ships, I didn't understand how factions worked. So I bought ships from three different factions. Learning this I didn't want to spend too much money. So I want on eBay to buy some ships for the Rebel's faction to make a list. Then I couldn't play them because it didn't come with the 2.0 components which i didn't understand. So then I heard of the conversion kits and how much stuff was in them. I went on eBay and bought a few more second hand ships with the intent of buying a conversion kit. Then I couldn't find a new conversion kit and it could only buy that on secondary market which cost more money than I had planned. Once again I was a few hundred dollars in has four different factions and only a few lists that I could play. Then it was because of yet another squad builder and infinite arena is actually understood how to make the list because AMG had no resources to help me understand the list building. As a new player is extremely frustrating.
Ouch. I totally get it - I got in in Wave 3 of *1.0,* and even then it was very challenging to follow/figure out how to use the stuff. Being a long-term player has made it dramatically easier to keep up, but I've always been aware how unfriendly the boxing/editioning has been for anyone trying to break into the game without support from an existing player. The community has banded together recently, especially with the X-wing Hub, to try to help with that, but I'm very optimistic that AMG's approach has been trying to fill that gap too, and play way way in advance to avoid another edition reset anytime soon.
Yeah key word is optimism, you seem overly optimistic and do not see or maybe choose not to report AMGs problems. Many of the things figure out by FFG have been changed to suit AMGs version of the game. I play weekly and I’m saddened by some of the current trends in the game due to AMGs view of the future
I'm not going to say they've been perfect, if their communication was consistent across their games I wouldn't have had to do this. On the whole though, I really do think AMG has done a decent job, and in a way that *feels* (key word) like there are bigger things on the horizon
@@casualdadgames if we’re going by, feels like, I don’t get the same feeling as you do about AMG. Over the last year, we’ve had very little fluctuation in points and pre-builds have come to dominate the game. Feels like AMG wants this game to be more like their other products. The lack of any announcements and the confusion when asked about it kinda shows their feelings about xwing. I would’ve rather heard about how you and your list did at adepticon. I found your channel by watching your strategy sessions leading up to the event. More of that please.
@@Zanollo5 Maybe. The thing is though, we still don't know how much of this is (or isn't) true. All we really know is they ended development and gave one possible explanation why.
One problem is that every ship they re-released in 2023 are all reprints. Not everybody needs to go out and buy more Tie bombers or the outrider. They should have come up with a new ship then more people would have bought it.
I don't disagree - but on the same points I made in the video: the Bomber box fills in new player collections, and also served as a small-base packaging beta test, while offering at least some incentive to veteran players. That and the YT-2400, I think, were deliberately low-key releases to test the supply chain before the fairly significant investment/risk of truly new content
But the TIE Bombers needed to introduced to second edition. And if they were only available in expensive starter packs then players would have flipped the eff out. Have to get the old classics established back in the game before new stuff. Lambda when?
I have the exact opposite impression; I can't get (e.g.) StarVipers without paying through the nose for them on ebay. A two pack of them, a Lancer re-release... those would be great
Starter sets for all seven factions doesn't entirely make sense to me. Cuz, yes, you want new players but you are spending a lot of money for somebody that's probably not going to buy all seven starter packs.
But look at the Empire and Rebel Starters - there was plenty in there to support current players as well, at least enough to want to pick up the box. And, bonus, an experienced player could take the handful of pieces they really wanted and share the bulk of the box with a new/prospective player for a split cost.
And who can afford to have comprehensive fleets of all 7 factions in the first place? I like S&V. If I could have bought a starter set, I would have. X-wing needs to reach critical mass again. These help with that.
That's my bad If it helps, IF I'm right, it means Armada is still on the roadmap as well. It's almost certainly further down, because we haven't seen any of the same groundwork we've seen for X-wing, but I wouldn't bet against Armada coming back.
Stay optimistic, hopefully we get some standard loadouts for Scum. What ship do you think they woud put in a Scum starer set? Great videos keep up the great work.
Oh man, a bunch of us have talked about that before - the Scum Starter is really hard to imagine without a Firespray, but then chances are it would be 3 ships, so those suckers better be GOOD. I'm really hoping for SLs for all of the main Bounty Hunters - Boba, Bossk, DENGAR, IG-88, Zuckuss/4-LOM - and would *love* to see that in a Starter. That's a lot of ships that can't possibly all be in one box though, so that'll be a card pack one day. More likely it'll be a 4-ship mix of small bases. Fang, HWK, Y-wing, Scyk? I'd take that too because all of those could also use the love in Scum.
I think the reason we got nothing from AMG at adepticon is because of what you mention at the 5:30 time.... AMG tried early on to tease changes ahead of time and they were destroyed by a very vocal minority. So they shut it all down and decided they would only announce things as they are confirmed. Some of those vocal complainers are still active in the social media world... many still play the game! AMG find itself in a 'damned if you do and damned if you don't' in that if they tease\announce something, they'll very likely get critized for it, especially if it is something that is not confirmed and may get delayed or not delivered. So, they just won't say anything until the announcements are curated, ready to go. I still hold hope for a May the 4th (or maybe Revenge of the 6th) announcement for X-Wing and\or Armada. AMG has no inventive at this point to tell us when their announcement will be done.
Agreed, that initial response was hard to watch - even now the comments I got for these sentiments on Reddit this week were so negative they got a bit absurd. That's certainly one reason they've been more cautious and measured so far.
Im a returning 2.0 player that sold my collection in 2021 because of pandemic and lock downs. Used the funds to buy warhammer. Hated painting so sold warhammer. Did nothing hobby related for that duration. Just placed an order for the rebel and imperial starters and a few extras because of a retailer putting a clearance sale on. Got some ships for $3 and the BoY pack for $3. Im excited to at least get this to the kitchen table and play casual. Will see how i like the 2.5 rules. Also got into Star Wars Unlimited and it's been a lot of fun. Lots of good things in gaming for star wars fans.
Fair, but my understanding is that every single box, model and release that's ever been in the game (except the Ban List of course) is still legal? That, and all of the Starter Sets are a full two-player game experience that don't have any of the problems the X-wing starters did with editions/versions? From a retail perspective, they've also never been unloaded from every store shelf everywhere across the country, which was very nearly a defining feature of X-wing for a while there.
Try Aerodome by I believe Wade Pichet (sp?) one of the original X-wing designers. And then Encounters: Shattered Wastes by Ryan Farmer of FlyBetter Podcast!
I got to the 4 : 10 mark and realized you're so far out of touch with how things went that it's really not worth listening to you. You're at the same low level of AMG when they went on their stream at the launch of their edition and flat out insulted the current player base for liking the game they were then changing into their own thing. For a hot minute there I thought a channel like this might actually give me hope to return to a beloved game, but here we are, with a super subjective hot take content creator trying to rewrite the history book. C'est la vie in the modern age. 🤷
I get it - there have been hiccups and definitely rough communication, I don't love everything that's happened or how it's been handled. BUT, there was a good faith effort to fix some legit issues with the game, both from a rules/gameplay and market/sales perspective. It's entirely possible I could be completely wrong too, we'll only know for sure after any official announcements come out.
😂 well, it DOES make YOUR comment, valid and to the point, factual comment he has NO clue what so ever. Go tell Dion from GSP about the ‘rose colored’ optimism. Perhaps Crabbok. I’m sure if he ‘really’ asked around, he’d find out the true true without doubt.
2 months from when this was uploaded, and still nothing of substance from AMG. I enjoyed 2.0, but something about 2.5 just is not as fun in my opinion. Scenario playbfeels forced into a dog fighting game. AMG has a poor PR department. Also, their threat to shut people doen who critize them and thier decisions showed poor character. I have pretty much not played for a year now, and dont miss the game at all.
Well, now we have something of substance I suppose XD The main points stand, and I honestly believe the studio was trying, really trying, and there are some kinds of obstacles on the back end that turned out to be too much - for now
This might be a lesson to games designers... not to build a single game around one IP. Build a new mythology/IP, and then connect a GOOD game to a successful IP. Then, if the fandom feel abandoned or mistreated... then the game still continues - in its own right. Perhaps?
Of course I got BOTH quotes wrong - this is what was actually said: "Phase one was to grow the player base, and phase one has been a success!" GSP live stream, World Championship Day 2 (not on YT yet) "... obviously there will be an announcement for X-wing forthcoming/coming soon" Still the same spirit, but accuracy matters ;)
I really wish the video was up to see and hear again , I really thought that Will Shick corrected himself after saying Phase 2 "pertaining to organized play" and not about new XW releases. I def want to be wrong lol.
Someone *exceptionally* salty in the Subreddit commented an exact transcript of the conversation, and you are correct. So I very well could have completely misinterpreted that part. That *said,* the actions AMG has taken up to this point are the bigger indicator for me, so I stand by the bold prediction ;)
@@casualdadgames I agree with you, being so silent about a game that could have great potential sales for AMG suggest something is brewing and we will hear about it soon.
I'm an old 1.0 player. I got all the 2.0 upgrade kits and a good bit of the new 2.0 ships before they added in the prequel trilogy factions. What I'm waiting to see is what is it going to cost me to play 2.5 with what I already have? Are point values still digital only, or did they put them on the cards again? I tried getting into my old Fantasy Flight app, but it's dead. Is AMG release an official app for squad building? Basically I have a lot of questions. I love this game, and mostly will play it with friends who will come use my ships. I will prebuild a bunch of squads we can grab-and-fly. But, I just want to know that the dozens and dozens of ships I already have aren't dead weight.
For list-building, both yasb.app and LaunchBayNext.app have current list builders where you can access the points values. LaunchBayNext is also the list-building app I use on my phone, and it's great at staying current and saving lists (or individual ship builds to use in lists). In terms of cost, I believe you're only missing objective markers and the objective cards. The markers you can use whatever for if you're just kitchen table (or ignore completely if you'd like, but I like the extra variety of play) and the objective cards you can likewise ignore, or print off once and just reference from there - there are only four scenarios, the whole list comfortably fits on a double-sided piece of paper. I see a lot of questions asked on Reddit, but there's also the various Discord servers (Atomic Mass Games' new official one and Gold Squadron Podcast are both some of the most active ones). But I'm also happy to answer any questions that I can too!
@@casualdadgames Was looking at YASB. The app allows you the option to add cards to ships that don't actually work with that ship. Eg Corvette can take missile tubes upgrade BUT it dioens't have the missile tubes slot to fit any missiles. I sthere any other squad builders that are actually accurate?
@@kudosbudo that's a Huge ship, where official rules support ended ages ago. I'm not sure where that comes from - but I haven't seen that for any small/medium/large base?
Long live X-wing ;) But yeah, this is not the turn I was expecting. I still stand by this, just the production/financial hurdles turned out to be too much. For the foreseeable future, at least
