Atomos Ninja V - Nikon Z6 // UNBEATABLE Setup!!! I have been shooting with this device for a while now and I am super impressed with the quailty and the result you can achive with the Nikon Z6 and Atomos Ninja V.
At the moment the Nikon Z6 offers the best video performance out of any mirrorless camera and for people shooting with the Nikon z6 you should really consider grabbing an Atomos Ninja V.

Curtis, thank you so much for this. The Z6/Z6II have so few quality tutorials/guides on RU-vid, it's just not a system that is a popular as Sony's offerings. So I'm relieved to find someone covering the basics for Nikon users in such an elegant and concise format. Thanks immensely!

Just ordered one of these. A Z6 with a manual focus Zeiss is also my setup and that bit about the focus peaking is a huge selling point.

Thank you for this video Chris, I have a audio question. Is it possible to use a boom mic and a lav mic at the same time with the Z6+atamos? I have a Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun and a Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Camera-Mount. Do you have any tips or recommended videos

Hi Curtis, I just purchased the Ninja V and have the Nikon Z6. Question: How would you set up the Z6 with Ninja V for a 1.5 - 2 hour long theatre play recording and will the Z6 battery last for 1.5 hour shoot?

Good video Curtis! I am currently a Nikon z6 user and whilst I mostly film other people, I was considering getting the Ninja V to use as a flip up screen replacement when self-filming. However, replacing the setup with a Sony camera that has a flip up screen is very tempting (Sony Mk4, A7C) as I become more serious about filmmaking. In terms of getting something that will last a few more years, do you think I should stick with the Z6 and get the Ninja V or opt for a new Sony setup that doesn't need an external monitor? Thanks for reading :)

What LUT would you suggest to use on the ninja 5 to get it to look like what it will after post? I'm using N-Log from my Nikon d780 into it...

Please help! Hello, can I ask how can you choose to shoot N-Log on the Atomos Ninja V, when you have already activated the ProRes RAW. I have activated it and even if I want to switch to just N-log (ProRes/LT), the Ninja V says - this signal requires ProRes RAW codec. It is not allowing me to shoot just N-Log. Am I understanding incorrectly the differneces between the two?

No didn't in the end, due everything that's gone on didn't wanna risk sending my camera and not getting it back for months and also Adobe Premiere Pro still doesn't support it.

It is completely normal. The Z6 is setting to 800 Iso in Log to use the sensor full capacity (basically).

No problem! No for Nikon Z6 maximum is 30p

Same for all the Z cameras. 4K 60p in 8 bit internal only on the zii’s.

The native and minimum ISO for using Atomos Ninja V is 800 hope that helps

@@CurtisPadleythanks for the reply is it there any effect on the quality interms of iso value. This is challenging to get shallow depth of field at 24 f/s. It is pushing me using dark ND filter which adds darken edges to the frame.

@@a.elshehhi5832 don’t use a variable ND. They cause a lot of issues. Vignetting, weird x pattern and uneven sky color in bright sun. If using a fixed ND and you’re getting vignetting then the filter is probably too thick.

You cant. No option currently to shoot in 4k60fps with the ninja.

Hey mate. Just popping in to let you know that prores raw is supported in Premiere Pro (beta). I got the same setup and I love it so far. Amazing how far you can push the raw footage in post.

Do we still need to upgrade nijon z6 to factory to get de prores raw? And 10bit nlog is available without the upgrade? Ive seen somewere ninja v firmware 10.31 would get the prores raw but would we still have to get the nikon upgrade? Sorry for the questions but i cant find noone talking about them...

@@rootsexpeditions5055 You need both an upgraded Z6 and a Ninja V with firmware 10.3 or later to be able to record Prores Raw. The camera upgrade requires a hardware modification, which is why you can't avoid sending it in to Nikon.

It is a high quality shooting format that has become standard in film and can provide further flexibility in post and is certainly one of the best formats you can shoot. Hope that clear things up ✌️👍👍

Raw creates some noise and skips lines causing it to be a bit softer but you get more flexible footage so weigh up the cost./ benefit. I prefer prores.
