Thank you for this video! I was sure that when Atomos first launched the new OS it was only for the V+ so I never bothered checking to see if they would ever change that early decision! So thanks to you I am now up to date on my V and I shall see how it affects my Connect device! 👍🏾🙏🏾 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇸🇪🇹🇹

SDI Cine allows you to have the same file names on the Atomos as various cine cameras use internally. So, for example, your RRD can record R3D internally while the Atomos records a ProRes proxy and the file names will match up. One use for this is camera to cloud -- you upload a proxy that a remote editor can start cutting right away and then once DIT ingests the much larger R3D files, you can easily relink to the full resolution files.

I finally caught up with this episode after finishing work. Like you, I hope Atomos sorts out exposure tools while shooting Log but using a Display LUT to make the screen look pretty. I’ve spoiled some opportunities by not knowing this and getting badly underexposed footage that could not be saved. Cheers

I think that the new interface is much cleaner and more up to date. It looks much better in person as opposed to on RU-vid. I have the new 7" Shogun and two Ninja V's. I Updated both ninjas with the feature pack because I like the new interface better. The EL zone is also a very useful exposure tool . It also includes the Arri False color tool and H.265. Another great feature is that you can shut the Ninja off with the press of the side button. Before shutting down was only a touch creen option. Good content by the way.....

Yeah, the interface does look cleaner. I just don't find it as intuitive without the colours. But that's always a personal preference thing, isn't it? Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. For me, the bottom line with Atomos is that they should cut the crap and incorporate Braw. Full stop. I know that there are (small p) politics involved in the issue, but, as a user, I couldn't care less about that. Settle your scores, kids. The Ninja is a nice little recorder but I kind of regret buying it because of my subsequent shift to the Braw workflow. More camera companies are incorporating Braw now, so Atomos risks redundancy in the acquisition stakes. That's a shame because they make pretty decent gear otherwise. Thanks again. 👍

Completely agree with you! In a live stream with PhotoJoseph on Atomos’ channel the CEO said that they are willing to add support for BRAW, but that Black Magic won’t let them 🤯

@@RedFrameTech Could it also have something to do with the fact that BRAW is supported by Leica, Panasonic, Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon and Sigma who might want to keep Sony and Atomos out of it? I think it seems plausible that those companies pressured Black Magic to not support Sony and Atomos aswell. They might fear they'd give the market away to their big competitors.

@@mick0matic Perhaps. Though Panasonic offer both BRAW and ProResRAW output in most of their cameras, so it seems to me that at least Panasonic don't make that distinction. But maybe the other ones do

I think it's less politics than it is capitalistic competition. If Atomos got ahold of Braw, nobody would buy the BM Video Assists. The other scenario would be for Resolve to finally accept ProRes Raw but, again, I think BlackMagic doesn't want to do that for market reasons. Despite peoples' preferences in workflow, though, Prores Raw has proved to be the more "Raw" codec over Braw.

OK got to the end of the video now, the EL exposure tool is worth it, and the H265 file sizes are much better than to Pro Res files. I tend to record long takes, sometimes 3 hours so H265 will be a great option for me. A great live stream I was just too late home to get the beginning. Thank you.

ProRes RAW can also be converted to ProRes 4444 XQ for DaVinci Resolve Studio. I use the Apple Compressor program for macOS and it's only $50 USD. Also uses all the encoder hardware for M1 Max and later for quick transcoding.

Did this update fix the sound delay bug with Atomos Connect? Or is the audio still delayed during live streaming to video. Thank you for the answer.

Thanks for this. I shoot in the Sony S-Cinetone picture profile rather than S-Log3. Does the EL Zones feature still work when you’re not shooting in log?

Yes, but you’ll have to turn of LOG in the Ninja’s camera input menu

not a fan of the new upgrade either, also trying to figure out why my V isn't matching the tint to my sony a7siii monitor. the color makes me nervous given I still had goo footage.

I can't install OS 11 on my ninja V. Is something wrong with the Token? Must I unzip the .bin? How this works? Help, please.

Make sure you put the file on a freshly formatted drive (formatted in Ninja). The .bin doesn’t need to be unzipped. If it doesn’t work, contact Atomos support. Some people still seem to have issues with the token.

I Installed a ATOMNJV.FW file that they send it to me (seems that The OS11 is installed now), then they said that I had to install a new activation.bin, for my surprise appears an ERROR message on my Atomos Ninja V's screen (after that activation). Vey confusing... well It seems that I have to wait for new instructions according to the support service. Thanks and have a great day! ❤

I'm looking at buying a Ninja for my XT5. I can get an old-stock Ninja V+ for the same price as the new Ninja (base version). Does anyone know if the actual hardware has been upgraded or is this all just software (which can be updated with the performance pack)? Basically I want to know if there are any modern hardware features in the new base model that affects operation (heat, fan noise, etc). I don't really like buying old stock, but if the V+ is identical to the new "Ultra" then it seems like a bargain... The reason I am looking at this is because according to the Atomos site the base models only support 24p 6k and not 25p (I am based in the UK)... does anyone know if this is correct (it seems crazy)? Cheers!

I’m not sure about actual hardware differences, but I suspect there are. Like a faster processor for future functionality. My Ninja V does 25 and 50 fps no problem (I’m in the Netherlands) and as far as I know the V+ shouldn’t have a problem with that either

@@RedFrameTech Thanks for your reply. Are you able to do 25p @ 6K? Apparently the base models only go up to 24p@6K on a Fuji XT5. I'm not sure what other cameras have 6K and are also restricted...Cheers

My Ninja V can do 5.8K 25p in ProResRAW from my Lumix GH6, so I assume that should be possible with newer Ninja models as well

I have the new ninja v and gh6 as well. Why only DNx and H.265 activated. Did I miss something? ProResRAW is not. Also I don't have ATOMOS 11 feature pack

Firstly, check you’ve updated to the latest firmware version. If that’s the case and still no ProResRAW I’d contact Atomos support. There have been some issues with codec activations. Make sure you register your device on Atomos’ website

This is the respond I got from ATOMOS support "Please purchase ProRes RAW for $19 and activate it. After that, we will refund you $19."

@@brandonlazo yes I did paid for ProresRaw and then they refunded me. But I still don't have ATOMOS 11 feature packs. It's weird or I missed something about it. Just to be clear my ninja is the most resent one (5.2).

Atomos needs to add smb and ftp c2c option there no such ting as the cloud only sumone ells computer y cant i c2c to my cloud maybe a app that you specify ass a folder and select it in the c2c portal as a destination or even beter ad smb suport in the atomos conec and let us pull the files off the drive tru the network wile the drive is in the atomos

I currently have ProRes Raw enable in my Ninja V Atom 10. Will I loose that if I update to Atom 11? I don’t think I’ll buy the package.

Previously installed codecs should stay activated. There were some problems with that when they first released the update, but that should be fixed now
