ATPLQ: 611120
In this video I will go through a question from ATPL Questions for General Navigation focusing on Great Circles, Rhumb Lines, Departure and Convergency.
There will be multiple methods shown, which will show you how to solve similar but slighty different questions as well. I like to focus on visualising the problems so draw out countries quite often!
If you would like to suggest any particular questions for me to go through, can be from the question bank or not. Please leave them down in the comments below and i'll take a look!
If you have other topics which you are stuck on within General Navigation, or other subjects for example:
1. Direction, Latitude and Longitude, Great Circles, Rhumb Lines & Directions on the Earth
2. Earth and Aircraft Magnetism, Direct Indicating Compass
3. The Flight Computer and Calculator Tips
4. 1 in 60 Rule and Mental Dead Reckoning
5. (Basic or General) General Navigation problems
6. Topographical Charts and Map Reading, Plotting and General Chart Properties
7. Convergency, Mercator Charts and Lambert's Conformal Charts
8. Polar Stereographic Charts
9. Gridded Charts
10. Time
from either the 2020 EASA Syllabus, or FAA ATPL, ICAO ATPL. Or maybe you are on your PPL and would like some help instead, please comment and subscribe!

Thanks for the video, I am looking forward to seeing more. What confuses me is this; if you look at the explanation in ATPLQ it would seem that they draw the straight line as the rhumb line and the great circle as the curved line which is opposite to the way you do it. Maybe I am just not seeing it right. It would be great if you could point me in the right direction, pardon the pun :-). Thanks again.

Hey John! I completely understand what you're saying, when I sat my Gen Nav exams I actually did it where the Rhumb line was straight and the great circle was curved. Both ways work for all questions, so really it's what you're comfortable with. I do the Rhumb line curved now because most people I know do it like that. I'll release a quick video tomorrow explaining how to do a question both ways, hope that will clear things up! 😊

My question is why have you put US on right half and Japan on left half. Is it because of hemisphere change or what. e.g in case of northern hemisphere you would change east west side? Please explain
