I have AFib and didn't even know it until a few years ago. After our second daughter was born, my heart kept feeling like it was racing so I mentioned it to my doctor and had a Holter monitor for 24 hours. He just said it was anxiety from having a new baby. I still see the same doctor. I went in for a pre surgical exam and the PA said something about having AFib. I was completely shocked. I don't know why my doctor didn't say anything before. This is a very interesting video. Thank you for explaining it, in normal people terms.

@@IbrahimIceCold most doctors don't give a damn and can't give a damn even if they wanted to. the amount of people seen by just 1 doctor, there's not enough time for a doctor to show that they really truly cares about your well being. Which goes against what "HEALTH CARE" is suppose to mean. If a doctor doesn't really know you personally, then I wouldn't put 100% trust in making decisions about my health.

I was feeling heart palpitations, so I ordered this device on Amazon for same day delivery. I was not short of breath, nor was I having chest pain, which would be an immediate trip to the ER. The device showed pre-atrial contractions, as I spent the extra $9.99 to have the professional consult in-app purchase. After a small amount of research I determined caffeine can cause these irregular beats. I dramatically reduced my coffee intake and have not experienced these palpitations again. This device definitely raised my awareness of a necessary lifestyle change. Highly recommend.

I’ve had two kardia devices, the single-lead and 6-lead. It is very accurate, but medical professionals have pretty much refused to take the time to even look at my phone while in the exam room. I had that experience with two fmily practitioners and three cardiologists. All refused to provide an email where I could send the PDF for my medical records. Unless you are highly experienced in reading EKGs (I’m a retired ER nurse), it could be a waste of money.

I like that the Apple Watch monitors 24 x 7 if you wear it all the time. The other device only measures if you take it out, place your fingers on it to do a single recording. Also the Kardia device requires a monthly subscription after the free trial. I think it's good to have the Apple Watch for constant monitoring and have another device to get additional reading if you feel something is wrong or if the Apple Watch sends you alert and you want a second reading from another device.
@brilliant13675
@brilliant13675 2 года назад
Apple watch does not monitor ecg 24/7, it only tracks pulse Continuously. In order for an ecg, you need to press your finger on the Crown and hold still for 30 seconds. It does not do ecg autonatically. Also, there is no "trial". There is the basic service, then there's KardiaCare that offers more.

My heart rate usually was always above 100 on the daily even just laying down and sometimes would be at around 120sum.... but that wasn't even the scary part, randomly but not constantly my heartrate would pick up to 236 and even up to 267 for a couple of minutes while not doing anything at all & the feeling of my heart popping out of my chest feels horrible & it would honestly scare me thinking what if it doesn't stop. The last time my heart jumped up to 237 was in May so I decided to get the Kardia I don't go anywhere without it in fear i might get an episode like that again. Thank God i haven't since then but i did purchase the Kardia because of it.

I suffer from SVT and I have an Apple Watch 4, I had an attack and took over 60 measurements with the watch, I sent it all to my specialist cardiologist and he said it didn’t really show anything unusual, it was like a reading if you were exercising. But he said it’s not unusual for readings not showing anything strange either unfortunately. Not sure about the Alivecor as I haven’t tried it, may give it a go though to see how it compares. Apple have made it a right pain to send multiple readings to your doctor on an iPhone or iPad.

Great and informative! Just what I was looking for to watch since buying my Kardia Mobile ECG device. And a GREAT little device! I bought mine a few days ago, in consideration of my Triple Angio, Quad Heart Bypass operations. And, although it might be if no value for the subarachnoid aneurism I had two months ago, I just feel better that I’m way more equipped for problems down the road than I would be otherwise. And while I’ve still got my Saint John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid ticket, there’s no better way to up the ante by keeping some ‘essentials’ in terms of high tech gear on hand. So I’m always looking for ways to be better prepared, so to that extent, I’m looking into buying a proper 12-lead machine (around $800+) for my home use, as well as a portable oximeter, and a Philips portable home defibrillator. Since I spend a lot out in the deep back country, I find things like a sat phone, portable BP meter that integrates the Kardia device, a blood sugar device, and the Kardia device itself, to enable me considerably more freedom, and fewer strings for enjoying the great outdoors for as long as I’m able. Since I’m about to turn 65 next January, and most of my friends are over 50, I like to think of it as extra insurance for all of us, should we need it. Considering that we’re often out somewhere past the ‘Golden Hour’ in terms of response time for ambulance service, I figured that this might buy us some all important time to get to the Emergency room.

AFIB can be brought on by a lack of sleep. It was news to me 3 years ago, but it happened after a shift in work habits. I was told by my Cardiologist that sleep apnea and insomnia can be precursors to AFIB. While I don't have sleep apnea, I was only getting about 4-5 hours of sleep and was going through some stress induced insomnia.

It’s not that Kardia can’t detect and identify PVCs, it’s that the FDA has cleared the device to id only AF, bradycardia and tachycardia. As you know, even twelve lead ekg machines can misidentify arrhythmias so this software encourages the pt to send/take the ekg tracing to a doctor, who can interpret it. even if the reading is identified as normal, a doc can look at it and quickly dx pvcs or whateverever else might be going on. It’s only going to tell you if you are in AF, Brady or tachy. Otherwise it says “normal”, which in reality means it could be dozens of other arrhythmias or normal, just not AF.
@IAMJRAD
@IAMJRAD 4 года назад
PVCs are pretty obvious on a strip. Yes a 12 lead ecg is gonna give you a ton more information but if you know your heart rhythms you can probably see quite a bit with this thing.
@brilliant13675
@brilliant13675 2 года назад
The algorithm detects sinus rythmn. If the algorithm detects a rythmn that is abnormal, it will show as "unclassified" as the software is smart enough to know its an arrhythmia it just doesn't know the name of the arrhythmia. If it reads sinus rythmn, then no abnormalities were detected. For example, STEMI can not get picked up by the algorithm, but you can just observe The ST elevation on lead II to diagnose it.

While listening to my lungs my doctor had me take 6 deep breaths. Then she listened to my heart and said it was tachy. But I said it is just beating fast because of having to take deep breaths. My EKG was 15 seconds laying down and was normal. I doubt the laying down and 15 seconds could tell them anything. What does it mean to have a "tachy" heart after breathing hard. I have asthma.

Dr. Oller, this was very interesting for me to watch. For the past twelve years I have been having palpitations, but just in the past three months or so I have been noticing that it seems as though it is getting worse. It REALLY bothers me and most of the time I feel light headed when it is going on. I have an Apple Watch and when I feel it, I do the EKG and I see that it doesn’t look normal, but since I am not a doctor, I don’t know if it is normal or not. It definitely is not all one steady rhythm. I have recently been wondering if I should go and visit with my cardiologist, since I haven’t seen him for several years. I have been taking 50mg of metoprolol in the morning and another 50mg at night (prescribed for my palpitations) for several years now but I am feeling like it’s getting worse for sure. What would you recommend that I should do?

Are all scans measured the same as far as the display is concerned and what you can download and email? My spouse has atrial flutter. Kardia said it will not detect that. I believe that means the app will not tell me the display is atrial flutter. If atrial flutter can be measured and recorded I can leave it to my doctor or myself for diagnoses.
