Hot glue can be an excellent way to attach Christmas lights to a brick, concrete, or other solid surfaces when installing outdoor Christmas lights. Hot glue is perfect for ensuring that your outdoor Christmas lights display stays in place. It works equally well in both warm and cold climates.
Important Note: If you're attaching Christmas lights with hot glue to stucco, make sure it's the thicker, solid stucco and not the thin stucco that is backed by styrofoam. It will damage that type of stucco surfaces. You can usually tell if it's thin, backed by styrofoam by tapping on it and seeing if it sounds hollow.
In this video, we use hot glue to install C9 bulk light line. Bulk light line is preferable over a stringer set because it can be cut to any length you desire and is easy to install. With a stringer set of lights, however, you have to simply use them as they are, they can not be cut to length. Because bulk light line is so customizable, it’s perfect for all perimeter Christmas lighting projects, and can be purchased in lengths from 50' sections to large commercial spools of 1,000'. In addition, you can purchase this kind of lighting with a variety of spacing. The most common spacing between bulbs is from 9" 18". But other spacing options are available from our website.
In this video, we demonstrate how to light the perimeter around a large exterior window as well as around a double car garage.
Prior to getting started, it's best to insert the bulbs into each socket. Next, you're ready to apply your hot glue. Simply put a straight line of glue on the side of the socket or the base, depending on your preferred bulb orientation. In some cases, you may need to add a little extra glue to the outside of the socket for more holding strength. Press the socket onto the brick and hold for a few seconds until the glue sets.
Once your bulbs and socket are firmly in place, you can cut the C9 light line where you need it using wire cutters. Then add a slide-on Vampire male plug. On the other end of the wire, which will not be plugged in, it is recommended you go ahead and add a Vampire female plug so that it results in a safe, clean termination of the light line. Plug your light line into your timer and you're all set.
