Really cool video. I was in the Marine Corps as a Radar tech, and we would set up air defence radar sites, and I can tell you 100% our biggest threat was attack helicopters, I'm not surprised at all at how effective those KA-50s were.
The S-300 in game is modeled after one of the early 1980 versions (SA-10). Today, there are better versions of it like the S-300PMU (SA-20) and S-400 (SA-21) that would probably be more capable
@@rzr2ffe325 _Probably,_ but Israeli Air Force is flying over Syria and sometimes taking out _supposedly_ SAA SAM (suspicion is they are manned by Russians) systems, that were delivered really recently, seemingly with little trouble even using F-16s. Likely with F-36s they will show even greater performance.
@@TotalRookie_LV Correction. They are not flying over Syria, no Israeli jets have overflown Syria, or stayed in Syrian airspace for any extended amount of time since the loss of an F-16I on Feb 10th, 2018. They are using a combination of pop up attacks, terrain masking, and saturation attacks (through stand-off weaponry, fired from within Israel's airspace). The knocked out Pantsir-S1 systems that you refer to were not manned by Russian crew, and in the case of one of them, was not manned at all. Russian air defense crew are stationed at Latakia AB, and the Tartous naval base, the two Pantsirs were knocked out within the vicinity of Damascus. Simply, the two systems that have been destroyed were done so when either out of ammunition, or used incorrectly (Search and Track radar turned off). Considering the sheer amount of high-tech munitions thrown into Syria, the ability of their lackluster IADS has been nothing short of exemplary, cost effective, and has insured effective denial of the IAF's full capabilities. As for F-35s, well, the current strategy the IAF has been forced to adopt is not so much reliant on the type of aircraft employed, so I doubt their deployment will change much. Like the F-35I for Israel, Syria too will be slow to show its own hand with the S-300.
@@deadwing7051 Given how desperately one of those Панцирь-1С tried to shoot down incoming gliding bomb at the last seconds with guns, as it was too close and too late for rockets, at least that one definitely was manned. And of course, Israelis don't fly in open just like that.
HAHAHA!! Epic fw 190 fight of his life ended by flying into trees likely with the pilot dead, here comes grim... "Hmm, lotta red towers here, did you put them in??" *slowly sips tea*
Neither SAM or AAA pose nearly as big a threat as LAG. You seemed to be doing well until the enemy deployed this most dastardly weapon of all. Bad luck guys.
I guess his pilot got shot before the crash into the tree from the debrief. Surprisingly it flew pretty straight until then which is good concerning the stability of the airframe
Isn't the best way to take out a S300 or S400 site to use ARMs? For anyone reading that doesn't know what an ARM is.. It means Anti-Radiation Missile. Its a fire and forget missile that locks on to strong Radiator Signals (Radars, High Powered Communications towers, and Jammers.)
@@gokulmuralidharan628 ARMs are Anti-Radiation Missiles.. They lock on to sources of radiation. (Radars, Jammers, Comms towers) An ECM wouldn't be effective. The missiles don't generally change targets and keeps location of target stored in memory so it can hit it even if it loses the Radiation signal it was locked onto. (Granted not all ARMs are capable of doing this but the newer ones are. The AGM-88 HARM is not capbable, but the AGM-88E AARGM is capable of hitting targets even if the source of radiation is stopped.. It also has internal guidance systems so it doesn't have to rely on GPS signals which can be jammed.) Chaffs are designed to fool radar by creating multiple returns. However, the ARM doesn't have a radar of its own so the Chaffs wouldn't be able to fool the ARM. Honestly it is hard to counter an ARM. Even if you shut the source of the radiation off, the missile stores the source's location in memory and hits it. Best option against arm is either something similar to a RAM missile or a Point Defense system capable of taking out incoming missiles.
Awesome video! I'd recommend swiching altimeter to radar mode when flying low level. Your altimeter read 140 meters when you were skimming the ground at something more like 10 meters. Very useful
@@JuanPerez-co9nd - They are not particularly difficult to defeat in the real world. For one thing, they need to be reloaded. If you have ISR, they'll tell you when to target those systems. Israel made mince meat out of Pantsir using this tactic.
@MrNotadream - Uhh, we're gonna need real evidence that Israel lost an F-35. Japan did. So far the only aircraft. Are you over there believing what some wacky Palestinian propaganda outfits tell you?
This would not work in real life because the s300 and s400 work with both radar and satellite. But I like your ideas. You should try this with long and short range missiles.
God this game is hard af, lmao! Finally got good in the F18, but the sams and IR's are KILLER! If I see a SA-6 and my target is nearby... Well I send the wingman and wait hahaha! Good content!
One of the flaws with the older S-300 series, the SA-10A/B/C is the lack of modern channels for signal processing RADAR signals and dealing with jamming ESPECIALLY the 1L119 NEBO search RADAR suite. The more advanced you get, the better the EW hardening. One thing that seems to hold solid across the board is six missiles is all that a single terminal RADAR can service at a time. If there is only a single FLAP LID, that battery is only going to have have a dozen birds in the air at a time regardless of how many TELs are in the battery. ITRC, the FLAP LID can only engage within a 60 degree cone, so depending on the situation you may try 'wagon wheel' flanking.
Id just like to point out that us helo/warbird crew were the FIRST group to disable their SA-10 site, and also destroy it in its entirety Two of our deaths (myself and trash) were avoidable, Trash flew straight into their Zu-23s and I flew straight into their MANPADs, because I am an idiot (second flight in Ka50) and didnt think to hover outside of engagement range before unleashing my Vikhrs. Was awesome dodging all those S300s though, think I saw at least 5-10 launches, half of which were on me a treetop level
Just another thought from WWII bomber/torpedo attack strategy: nearly simultaneous attacks from relative 120, 240, and 360 followed immediately by next wave of three at different relative angles/bearings ... makes their C&C radar work harder to discern targets and buys a little more time to aim, lock, fox, and flee ...
I don't speak Swedish and I don't fly the Viggen, so I have no idea what you were doing the cockpit, but I have to say, the clicking is nice to listen to.
Question: why not use speciality anti-radar missiles? Like AGM-88 HARM? Relatively cheap (quarter mil), 150 km range, automatic homing on any active radar site. And if you coordinate a strike with such missiles from a safe distance with a couple attack helicopters or AR-10s or UAVs popping up from behind trees to catch them off-guard in case they turn their radars off when missiles are inbound. Even if they turn their radars off, the GPS/INS of the AGM-88 should be able to hit a site if it is scouted from satellite images or triangulated from previous radar emissions.
@goran stojanovic thank you for making my point lol whats wrong? Did another one of Putins wonder weapons explode killing more Russians lol dudes turning in to Adolf and Stalin mixed together
31:35 - coming in at tree top level, FW-190 dodges a SAM, does a fantastic strafing run, pulls hard right & then flies straight into the trees with no apparent damage to aircraft and/or pilot ???? * 32:08 - visible bullet holes in canopy, pilot dead !!!
Excellent video, very interesting to watch and, from the comments, quite thought provoking. Would love to see a re-run using the tactics that seemed to work best (Viggens and Su-25s) without loss, but with the S300/400s protected by Pantsirs. Using a couple of waves to take down a single S-300 track radar, then all the Pantsirs, then all the launchers, would be great to watch. Many Thanks
The S 500 can shoot down hypersonic missiles, satellites, and ICBM will the same idea work? That was not a lag it was Russian electronic warfare on you.
very but very unreal the simulation, a kamov shooting from less than 5 miles and 500 feet high and manages to shoot before the antiaircraft system, the same as harriers from at least 3000 feet high and manage to approach almost the visual range, that is not a simulation is an arcade. the fw 190 D-9 without words
Blood's pre-flight briefing was excellent - as always. The anticipation(s) and the right and wrong response to the threads - very good. Not to mention the in-flight command being clear and unambiguous - that is a leader to fly with! But CAP needs to get a better hand on the navigation - and to stop the server making tricks. I believe that nobody expected the KA50's to be able to do anything serious - but WAUUU. The discussion about the defence of the sites is - in my opinion - irrelevant. IRL it could have better or worse. It was a great mission and it gave an idea of the cost-benefit of various weapons and tactics. The Harriers obviously being worst. I believe that this mission will add to the awareness of the need for using the right tools.
So this is a very typical SEAD/Wild Weasel mission, and in DCS, the only aircraft that can really do Wild Weasel is the SU-25 with the Kh-58 (AS-11 Kilter) missile which has a range in game of about 70nm, however you can boost it ballistically against stationary targets to a much longer range: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MFT3cZudhuA.html . While the harrier has the sidearm, it's range is so short against serious air threats like this makes it very dangerous at best. Because DCS doesn't have one, the mission is hampered because there isn't a dedicated jamming support aircraft like the EA-6 or EA-18 which would severely degrade and reduce the effective range of the radars, or a dedicated blufor anti-radiation missile like the HARM or Shrike (coming on the hornet!). Neither does it have decoy missiles like the TALD (coming on the hornet!) to saturate the defenses during ingress. I think everyone did pretty well. The harriers got stomped because of the tiny range of the sidearms, the helo's did exceptionally well, the viggens did well (barring the lag spike and equipment issue), and the 25 engaged and killed a radar at a rather distant range. Very well done. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suppression_of_Enemy_Air_Defenses en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Weasel
James, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGM-158_JASSM The AGM-158 Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile is a low observable cost-effective solution with an range of 620 miles (ER variant). The B1 bomber, which is the platform the JASSM was intended for, can carry 24 of these!! So, I wish there was a B1 in DCS! (considering the age and how much information is available I would hope DCS could bring one to the game) Just imagine pulling off a sortie where you took down 24 to 48 S-400s (flying a pair of B1s surrounded by support aircraft) . Your comment inspired me to look into the matter, and I'm pretty amazed at the public information available. Pretty awesome stuff. What intrigued me was how the USAF dropped out of the missile program that the USN and USMC operate and field currently. Now I understand why. Just wow!
Used in the Syrian attacks, but not expected to be modeled in DCS; the closest DCS will come to is the AGM-154A & C JSOW. A glide bomb with a max range of ~70nm and will be equipped on the Hornet. I'm telling ya, once the hornet gets out there, DCS play is going to change. The tomcat and it's 100nm missiles are one thing, being able to use one plane to do different roles just needing a loadout change? PLZ YES!
I have, sorta. Here's the main assumption, that most people in a squadron (like the grim reapers) actually purchase and spend time to become at least proficient with weapons, sensors, decoys, and flying the thing. If that's the case, you're going to see a lot of missions where the primary plane is the hornet. Hornet as SEAD. Hornet as Wild Weasel, Hornet as CAP. Hornet as Multirole (SEAD --> CAP/CAS --> CAP). And then a sprinkling of dedicated planes. Pure CAP planes, pure CAS planes to fill out specific roles. The flexibility of the hornet means on public servers I'd bet it'll become the standard go-to plane as the a10 and harrier are vulnerable to AtA threats, and the eagle and flanker are more dedicated AtA planes. Add the tomcat in by years end(?), and redfor/blufor PVP fights will start with tomcats loaded down with phoenix missiles flushing their racks at ~100 nm, then going back to get more as the eagles, hornets, flankers, mirages race in through the hail to get close enough to each other to launch their missiles. Slow moving A10's and SU-25's harried by tomcats 50-70nm away. In the coming year(?), it's going to get *crazy* out there.
Hi, in the first couple of seconds you said that you guys had a mission where you tried to take out an S-400, I wasn't aware that DCS released it yet, is this a third party add on or how did you manage this?
36:15 was that soundtrack from ace combat assault horizon where u *land a really fucced up fighter only to have one of the landing gears breaks loose like 3 seconds after touchdown???*
Was browsing through the air defense units in the mission editor. My eyes jumped out of my skull when I saw the S-300. Just looking at it makes one say, "Mother of God!"
Glad to see this Su-27 with red smokes getting shot down. Typically the thing I don't like : guys thinking they are in a meeting with smokes, and guys that do beauty contests with liveries. But it's me, I'm not a fun enough guy for this. The video was pretty enjoyable. Don't you think that the BK-90 would be a far better choice than the mavs ? But i don't know if they are still bugged, only played BMS for the last 3 months. Your nav error would have been a no-go for the BK-90 though.
Swedish fighter export program an emergency defense program. Cannon fodder for russian 5th gen anti aircraft. Estimated life 0....... Delaying forces. Not a chance.
My new favorite channel. Try a F-111 Raven or an A-6 Prowler both good jammers. They can turn up the music. Something Interesting would be a mission flying WW 1 aircraft intercept or patrolling. Thank you and your people for the work.
You can kill one with the F15... load4 aim9s and rush the S300 with Mach 1+ you can shoot down every missile head on with the Aim9s (they will lock on it) and then just 20mil the fuck out of it (proved)
Grim Reapers You can’t defend yourself from more than 4 cause you can only carry 4 sidewinders. Haven’t tried it with guns yet LOL but it works best with the SA15
