this is a great movie....every element of the modern sci-fi superthero movie is here.....the special effects are very good, the dialog is excellent and not cutesy...the acting is dignified and serious and the supporting actors show emotion well the humor is good too, very understated and without crudity or salacious bits which is nice....the narrator does a good job....the narrator relieves starman from speaking when he flies through space. i liked the spaceships also, they were ergonomic with easy to read analog guages and didn't look like the inside of concert halls with vast open spaces and high ceilings like many modern movie spaceships......these were more like submarines, no wasted space or silly gadgets or huge screens and the story was good, it was basic but remember this was 65 years ago. the japanese were very very good at monster and sci-fi movies even back then.

LOVE the classic Japanese sci-fi movies, watched them all the time on Saturday mornings as a kid! Many moons and galaxies ago lol!

I doubt that you can fly through the space without destroying a crepe de chin cape. I generally am surprised at the fact that space travelers have no fashion sense. It seems to be an ongoing problem... There is no reason why one should not look chic while traveling to other planets.

The flying sequences of the starman movies are very well done.

It's like the Godzilla series combined with Superman :)

Usually the American remakes of Japanese horror and sci fi flicks are a disappointment (current example - whitewashed Ghost in the Shell), but Jeff Bridges' portrayal of Starman (arguably also whitewashing) was just a bit more nuanced than Utsui's.

I watched this because I heard that star wars plagiarized the death star. It was nothing like the star wars one.
