One of the best things about AOT is it's rewatch value. Once you watch the whole thing all the way through and rewatch, you'll wonder how did you not see all the signs and clues.

The marco gear was the fact that marco was found dead without his gear earlier in the season and they were confused as to when and how he died because the last time everyone saw him, he had his gear on. Yet he was dead WITHOUT gear. However, Annie had marco's gear. Implying sometime, somewhere during that mission where Eren blocked the hole in the wall. Annie ''somehow'' eventually ended up with his gear. Armin recognized Marco's gear in Annie's possession. Edit: For people who still are confused. She had his (Marcos) gears because when Shawny and Beane were killed, she used her OWN gear doing it. They were all called in later to be inspected. The inspectors would have been able to tell which gear were recently used or which gear hasnt been used in a while. Thus Annie tried to use Marcos gear to pass it off as her own (as that gear hasnt been used for a while)

To clarify some things: they DID set her up - they wanted to trap her underground where she could be contained, but she noticed that. The thing with the gear: Annie killed Sawney and Bean with her own ODM gear, but somehow got Marco's gear, which hasn't been used in a long time and brought it yo the Survey Corps' inspection, thus creating an alibi. Her laugh is her finally dropping the mask she has been wearing for a long time. She finally doesn't need to pretend anymore. Sorry, but commander Erwin is a genius!!! You'll understand how they know it was her in the next episode. Also, the sh*t is about to go down 🔥🔥🔥

Wow the slander on Erwin.... Erwin himself said in epi 21 that he did a mistake by using Eren, a complete noob at titan shifting, as a standard of what a titan shifter could do. He didn't know that the enemy's titan could harden their skin and call for mindless titans. He focused on the "best move" which is trying to get the shifter out of the titan alive. And his plan is "basically" pretty good. Exclude everyone who joins after the wall breached, put Eren as a bait, put Levi squad with Eren, trapped the titan, and get Levi to cut them out. It should've worked if the enemy was at Eren level, but well... But he redeemed himself, he started thinking outside the box and predict they could transform twice. And asked Levi to change his fuel and swords. You might want to check out epi 21 again. The contrast of Erwin's speech and what Levi squad did is very good. Sorry for any weird grammar lol

The military police do not need maneuver gear for their job. That gear was designed for killing titans and every soldier is trained to use it. The military police is the best of each group of trainees so they definitely know how to use it. I don't know if they continue to train with gear after joining the police, so they might be out of practice. Guns are way more convenient for dealing with humans in the city.

There are some pretty big spoilers in opening 3, I'd say to refrain from watching it until the end of season 2. If you want, you can listen to the audio at least when starting on episode 26 (season 2 episode 1) Also, just letting you guys know that the last episode of season 1 is episode 25. On that episode when the ending song plays do NOT skip it. Just let the episode play out till the end.

Having marcos gear mattered because Marco was dead when the military ran through gear inspections when the two titans were killed. Annie swapped her gears to kill those captured titans. There's more info in the next two episodes.

They knew Annie was the female titan because after the 2 captured titans got killed. They checked if anyone used his gear since usually soldiers are not allowed to use their gear without permission inside the walls. Armin realized that Annie brought Marco's gear to the investigation check. since he helped Marco with his gear from time to time and knew every inch of it. He probably didn't really think much about it at that moment. Maybe he even questioned himself that he just mistook the gear. However after the expiditon Armin and the survey corp came to the conclusion that the female titan was Annie, because the Female Titan must have known exactly how Eren looks and must knew that he is a titan. That already makes the pool of suspects smaller. Also for some reason the female titan did not kill Armin, Jean and Reiner. She had no problem killing everyone else and it would have been easy for her to kill them but she didn't. She also hesitated when Armin told Jean to revenge his best friend who just died by her, she thought for a second that she might have killed Eren on accident. But how should an outsider know who Armin's best friend is? That leads to the conclusion that the culprit might be someone from the 104th Training Corps that had somewhat emotional conncetion to them and reprieved them. Since almost everyone from the 104th Training Corps either joined the Survey Corp or died except Annie (who went to the Military Police), they concluded that Annie was the female titan since the culprit can't be someone from the Survey Corps since he/she would have been missing on the expiditon. So to summarise: The female titan knew exactly how Eren looks, she knew that Eren could turn into a titan (not everyone knows this). She killed everyone without hesitation except members from the 104th Training Corps. So becaue of all these things she might be someone from the 104th, but everyone from the 104th is either a Survey Corp or dead except Annie. She also had Marco's gear and she is obiously female with blonde hair just like the female titan.

A couple things about episode 25: 1. It has an after credits scene, make sure you watch all the way through and 2. the mid-episode card is very long (pretty much a short story) but hints at important lore so make sure you go back to read it fully.

A bit of clearance: -Maybe it's a joke between you two, but Jean never liked Annie lol, he's into Mikasa real hard, he got that yellow fever -The reason why the Military Police rarely use ODM gear, is because they don't need to, they didn't directly fight the Titans like the Survey Corps, they're well, a Police, they do police stuff, that's why they're given guns, they are given ODM gear only when it's necessary, for example, helping citizens evacuate in case of Titans attack.

I don't recommend watching the 3rd opener until the 8th or 9th episode or like midway through season 2. for pure shock factor

Armin and the guys were trying to lure Annie in the tunnels because they were going on the assumption that titans are less active in the dark. Hange had mentioned it during her experiments with the 2 captured titans. those 2 titans were killed so nothing more could be learned. Annie used her own gear to kill the 2 titans and when the survey corp were investigating she presented Marco's gear instead of hers. So Armin questioned, why did she not show her own gear during inspection and why was she carrying Marco's gear.

At the very least, I do not mind or I'd go as far as to say I emplore if you pause the show to read those mid-scene notes, it helps you understand certain things that have happened that you may have missed or not understood it also explains things that you would NOT have noticed.
