A tad annoyed with myself that I didn't comment as much on this episode. There was a lot to take in and I was kind of locked in after Ep 5. Definitely need to improve on that so I'm sorry if this video falls below the standards set with the previous. I'll do better next time ❤
Please please please do not put this pressure on yourself. You can always make notes chiming in during the vid with a voice over, you could bring up points you might’ve forgotten to speak on as your opening in the next video, you could make a whole separate vid reviewing the whole season making up for it, etc. There are so many ways to do commentary. As long as you’re invested, that’s all we care about. Because at the end of the day, investment will naturally make you do literary analysis anyway, in whatever form you like.
I like this way better. People who pause too much don't seem to me to be experiencing the show because they halt every few minutes. AoT especially has big moments and bombshells, and when they come, I hope you let it roll and just react in the moment.
There are no wasted scenes or unanswered questions in this show, so don't feel annoyed that you didn't comment as much as you'd like because you were paying attention. Your reactions are great! The best reactions are a result from being completely immersed. You commented plenty and there are going to be MANY moments that will make you speechless, so don't worry :D
I have seen many reaction videos, but there are only a few reactors who have watched the show as closely as you have. Most of them are constantly chattering, frequently taking their eyes off the screen, or pausing too often. I don't think they are really immersing themselves in the production, the beautiful artwork, or the sentimental scenes. Your viewing style is serious about the work of animation, and the movement of emotions can be clearly seen in your facial expressions. I love your reactions😊
My favorite thing about Mikasa is how she's never made to feel masculine but is always powerful. It shows the complexity to feminity that isn't typical shown in modern media. She's just Mikasa, but Mikasa is just better than you no matter who you are lol love it
It's very much like Katara in Avatar The Last Airbender. Feminine but dangerous and it's great to see nuance where femininity isn't automatically equated to weakness or lack of power/strength!
@@DrSophieDarlingReactsthere's more of that coming, too-like, a Lot. You'll get all kinds of cool women! And some of them fall into certain tropes, yes, but you really get a full spectrum of humanity from them. Like you said before, it never feels forced.
3:20 I can see how you're holding on, you're strong, I can feel the tears stuck Inside you 10:23 It's amazing how early you noticed it, usually people only notice it when Eren puts a scarf on Mikasa
I was trying so hard not to cry haha!! Yes! I've been curious about the scarf and keeping an eye on it. I thought it might be linked to her parents at first because she tends to sniff it and rub it against her face which is a comforting act so I knew it had to have some sentimental value! So soon as I saw Eren I was like "OH MY GOD! THAT'S WHERE IT COMES FROM!"
Here's a cool fun fact about Mikasa: she was actually the first character Isayama (the creator of AoT) came up with, and he also uses a cute chibi drawing of her face in his signature!
Excellent and emotional reaction to one of my many favorite episodes of this series. NO SPOILERS , but, everything you see in these first episodes will be fundamental in the end.
One thing to note is that the scene where Mikasa and her mother are doing embroidery is a change from the manga that is of note. Mikasa was actually having her wrist tattooed by her mother.
When Eren gives Mikasa the scarf, he is blushing. it's just faint and hard to tell. However, I found out that it was added when they released season 1 on DVD and Blu-ray, so I don't know if it can be seen on streaming services.
Just a little clarification, Mikasa didn't live outside the wall. There's cities like Shiganshina and Trost which jut out from the walls, but people also live in the area between two walls.
Ah it looks outside the walls from the imagery. Doesn't look reminiscent of the town that we saw in Ep 1 so could just be where they're based within the walls I guess!
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts One of the earlier episodes has a visual of the walls that shows there's like a 100km between each wall. We aren't shown a lot of it, but it's a big area with farmland and villages. For example when Bertholdt is talking about where he and Reiner came from it's somewhere in between wall Maria and Rose. Outside of wall Maria (and now Rose) is titan territory and only the scouts go there.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts The walls are really gigantic, not just in heigh. Imagine it is actually a small country, with states and cities, farms, forests, smaller villages ... wich makes the walls really far from each other, so you can't actually see them from anywhere, just the ppl who leaves near the walls. If you see some conversations again in the past episodes, you see that everyone is asking Eren one time how were the titans, because Eren lived in a section that protected the outer wall, and when the titans invaded the walls they started the evacuation to the next wall. So a lot a ppl didn't even see the titans because they lived very far from the walls and were evacuated before the titans could reach them

You have some great questions! its quite refreshing but be aware that some of them will literally not be answered for seasons later so just take in the information or write some down than cross off any that no longer make sense with the new information that you receive.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts ahh omds idk if it’s my period making my emotions act up but i usually don’t cry rewatching these scenes but i was really tearing up watching you react 🥲
One thing I love so much about up to this point is how just moments before the music along with the scenery was this nation prideful bravado and then the transition from that hope to how quick it dissipates is so poignant to me.
I don't know if anyone has brought this up to you already, but this show has several OVAs (or OADs), which are like "special" episodes. While they are a bit more self-contained than the main episodes, they are still very well-written, and contain interesting information, as well as character development for certain characters. So, I would highly recommend you watch them as well. As for when you should watch them: After Season 1, watch: - Iles's Notebook - The Sudden Visitor - Distress - No Regrets: Part 1 - No Regrets: Part 2 After Season 2, watch: - Lost Girls: Wall Sina, Goodbye: Part 1 - Lost Girls: Wall Sina, Goodbye: Part 2 After Season 3, episode 12, watch: - Lost Girls: Lost in a Cruel World
Haaa yeah, it’s really hard not to just do one more episode, always! This Trost arc is a lot of powerful stuff and backstory and such. Something to note: this is Jean’s hometown, this is where he’s from. Jean Kirschtein from Trost.
I mean it's going to happen on a first watch haha! It's impossible to catch every little detail and nuance which is why re-watching is a large aspect of media analysis :)
15:55 I don’t think I remember where I heard this from (so no trustworthy source lol) but it looked like Dr. Jaegar was there for a scheduled checkup and since none of them seemed sick, it was quite possible that Mikasa’s mom was pregnant. :(
4:25 anime tries to censor this scene. Which make it look like Hannah isnt sure if Franz is dead or not. But its much more tragic. This guy is literally ripped in half and his insides spilling out. Its not that she isnt sure. She is just in total denial.
9:30 ..You cannot live outside the walls... theres titans there. Only the survey corp go beyond the walls, they are some of humanities greatest soldiers, and even they die in numbers when they step outside the walls. Mikasa and her family lived in a forest near Shiganshina disrict.
May I suggest creating a Patreon if you haven't already? There you can upload every reaction unblurred and unedited, which a lot of reactors already do for that reason😊 It ofc costs money for people to become someones patreon members, but with your AOT reaction videos so far I'd definitely say it's worth it!😊
I'm not going to set one up unfortunately as Patreon doesn't have their own upload service. They require you to use VIMEO and with the size of my files - I'm looking at a £40 a month subscription which I cannot afford. It's so silly that Patreon don't allow you to upload directly. The only option would be to have it as an attached download link 😞 I'll be doing YT Memberships when it unlocks for Early Access / Shout Outs etc!
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts I have seen other reactors just link to some unlisted youtube videos, or simply share a google drive link. In other words, there are other options available besides VIMEO
@@pavillion2007 I tried with Unlisted YT Videos but due to copyright some of them were blocked globally as they were unedited. Maybe a Google Drive Link is possible?
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts Ah well, I'm not very familiar with how all those things works 🙂 But it would definitely be awesome if you were to find a solution! Tho I'll enjoy your reaction videos either way😊(and excited to see what shirt you'll wear in next AOT video👀😂)
@DrSophieDarlingReacts Yeap, I think Google Drive would be the standard option in that case. What I have seen some reactors do is pin a post at the top of their patreon with links to the drive folders of the shows they have reacted to. That way, whoever joins in can easily access all the available content
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts yeah that's why Armin was so traumatized while looking at them, here they don't REALLY show it, only a pov from behind her as she's kneeling next to him you can see that he has no legs, that's not a lazy animator's fault 😅 in the manga the whole thing is shown, even as brutal as this show is, it still gets a lot, and i mean a LOT of things censored.
I remember when i watched this years before, franz was definitely cut in half, and that's why armin reaction was like that or am i remembering it wrong?
Did she get to the next episode right away? Just wondering on which eoisode she is already right now 😅 completely understandable with AOT, but makes it a little non-sensical to give pointers if something was misunderstood or make general comments as she might already be at the end of the season 😂 it's usually nice when the comment section can interact with the reactor, even if it's through the safty filter of a moderator
I haven't watched Ep 7 yet! Ep 6 is where I've left off but sitting down to record tomorrow. I usually update in the Community Tab where I'm at in the series so people don't accidentally spoil haha!
@DrSophieDarlingReacts thanks for the feedback, I'm looking forward to the coming reactions! ☺️ by the way, AOT also has 3 separate OVAs with somewhat side and back stories to some characters that are highly recommendable to watch - the comment section probably will let you know when it's safe to watch them (to not spoil yourself with information that were not yet disclosed in the series).
I always judge people on how they react to this episode .. if they saw Eren’s actions is normal for a 9yo kid, then I just stop watching them، because there is no way what he did is normal. I know the thing with Mikasa characters is deep , sad and stuff, and what Eren did is important in the way they met but also open a more look into his character and i know the way people view who really Eren start from this episode, it is very important to me, (and to the story overall ) how people see Eren‘s character,, yes you did not really talk alot about it but what he did is abnormal and crazy and yes it’s fucking weird . Eren was NOT a normal kid 😭
Eren who is nine years old, was he right by killing people with such a savagery that the body of the guy became a colander ? Even if he was right to defend Mikasa, he was not in the way he did it. This is the episode we are seeing that Eren is not a normal kid. He has pure rage in him. And every responsible dad should shout at him for what he did. Even if he was killing evil people, Eren acted evil too. He could have just try to save Mikasa and attack with the goal to defend. But here we see that he was just venting pure rage.
I disagree. In this situation I think he's entirely justified. He knew it was a life or death moment. He knew that if he didn't kill them, they would kill him and harm Mikasa. He knows what they did to Mikasa's parents. That they are monsters. Mikasa also killed one of them too. She also doesn't judge Eren for what he did because she believes it justified. They live in a cruel environment where the strong eat the weak, so they did what they must to survive. There was no way he could have tried to save Mikasa - she was being watched and you can see that they would have killed him easily if he didn't attack first and catch them off guard. It's actually a smart strategy.
@@DrSophieDarlingReacts Yeah but Mikasa attacked only to defend herself. Here you are saying it was justified to attack someone just for yourself and letting out your own rage, instead of prioritizing to save someone. I'm sorry but you are factually wrong. Mikasa just stabbed the guy to kill. Eren stabed the guy several time to massacre them. It's not the same goal. Eren was purely venting out rage when he should have focus on the goal to kill the quickest way. It's like you are saying it's right to torture someone because he was a criminal. And the fact he is nine years old, is worse. No child should kill anyone. But killing that way at that young age is proof that Eren is not normal, and has great moral issues.
@@vincentvieille5996 You're asking a child to be rational enough to understand a goal of killing in the quickest way. Yes, he did let his anger get the better of him but we know he leads with his emotions rather than his head at times. I still don't think he's wrong considering they would have easily killed him given the situation. You are putting contemporary morals onto a situation where the morals are lot more lax and less clear because the environment they live in is not our own. Eren killing to protect another is no different to Mikasa killing to protect Eren which is what she did. She wasn't defending herself in that moment. She killed to save Eren. She also wouldn't be loyal to Eren if she felt he acted beyond what he should have. I think we need to look at it from the perspective of the world they inhabit rather than our own sense of morality.
