Spoiler The war they were fighting was because the other nations saw Marley as weak due to losing the female and colossal titans for obvious reasons. They were gonna attack paradis island eventually and attack it hard. Eren just got a ahead.

I've never watched Attack on Titan before (or any anime really, unless ATLA and TLOK count), but hearing all of this hype and this amazing music is seriously trying its best to convince me to watch it.
