I really liked how Marco's death was, *within* the Trost arc, completely unseen. He was a named character with plenty of screen time, and yet his off-camera death goes to show how cruel the world can be, that such little significance was paid to his life. Of course, later, we find out more, but in the Trost arc, we don't have any of that info, so we are left with the sense that Titans render even seemingly significant human lives pointless. Great worldbuilding.

@@v1keennn85 After all this time, almost every single character still alive made a re-appearance in this final battle except for Rico and Kitz (and maybe Gustav), so I thought that maybe Isayama forgot about her existence, but she appeared in the fake preview of Vol.32 so no, Isayama hasn't forgotten her, and she will definitely appear soon. Since Rico is one of the best soldiers of the Garrison, and also stationed right near where the Survey Corps hang out, it was/is VERY strange that she didn't appear. So I thought of two possible reasons as to why we never saw her yet: 1. Since Titans are no longer a threat to the people within the Walls, the purpose of the Garrison has greatly diminished (as Lobov has stated). Because of this, perhaps Kitz and Rico changed factions to the Military Police. (And in my headcanon if we go this route, Rico is working for Queen Historia, which is foreshadowed by how in the manga - cut from the anime goddammit - she helped Historia after the Reiner-Berthold-Ymir Incident. Also, in the games, Historia/Krista and Rico have several interactions, where Historia/Krista has low confidence in herself, and Rico encourages her. They're pretty cute together.) 2. (This one is now invalid) While the gang are out to stop Eren, Rico and the Garrison are struggling to defeat the Beast Titan back on the Island. The battle against the Jaegerists and Marleyans has already reduced their numbers and strength greatly, so it looks like there is no hope. But then Annie, Falco, Gabi, and Kiyomi join them, and together they defeat Zeke. Rico, who lost her left arm during the fight, impales Zeke through the head and keeps him alive so that Levi can finish him off. She wants to honour the promise between him and Erwin Smith.

Truly an amazing video man. I remember watching season 1 so long ago and absolutely falling in love with this arc. Something that i really enjoyed about this arc was the way it portrayed background or unimportant characters. Soldiers gave up their lives left and right just so humanity can have one small yet powerful victory. I love how even though the majority of the soldiers who perish during the battle don’t add much to the story, their sacrifice and determination to fight to the very last man was incredibly emotional for me. I will always remember this quote from Rico’s character “Of course, every soldier is prepared to die. But these people aren't pawns on a chessboard. They all have names, families and feelings in their hearts too.” By the way if you don’t know which character this is it’s the white haired lady with glasses that’s the captain or sergeant of the garrison during the trust arc.
