Attacking with the Jobava London

In this video, I play a rapid game (15+10) against FM Jacob Furfine (Quest_to_3000) on lichess.org. This game was meant to be a serious training game, so it was not live-streamed, and there was no Twitch chat to distract me! The opening features a Jobava London (the combination of Nc3 and Bf4), leading to a sharp and complex middlegame.

First chess streamer I've ever watched. The only chess streamer that improves my own game. Watching Hikaru, Magnus, etc. Makes me worse (specifically when they play blitz, or don't explain anything. I'll face loss after loss after watching them, lol.) IM Rosen explains his entire thought process. Really appreciate him.

Honestly the main reason I watch Rosen more than the others is because of the 10+ minute games. With bullet chess it’s too fast to explain tactics :)

I love these games. Just amazing how it seemed like White made a crushing attack appear like pulling a rabbit out of a hat. All from a vague notion of wanting focus to be on the king side and Black's choice to move king side with the queen. Amazing.

Extremely nice gem of a game. 26.g5 e5 27. Rf6 (or your Rh6) Qxg5 is the kind of sequence i can see but stop calculating too soon. The quiet retreat of the rook back to the first/second rank to create unstoppable threats along the g-file is quite simple and elegant and just over the horizon of my calculation in such a quick scenario. Highly instructive. Thank you and kudos!

when you play h4 if he doesn’t play h5 and doesn’t make the castle, you still play h5 where he’s going to take the knight, in which case are you willing to sacrifice the rook by taking the knight in h5? answer me please, what would be a good continuation for white after the sacrifice of quality? This is the whole point of the Jobava System: It has Nc3 played as early as move 2 or 3. In the typical London System, it is the pawn that occupies the c3 square. One idea of Nc3 is combining it with the powerful bishop on f4. if c5 is played carelessly by black, White can get the initiative with Nb5 threatening Nc7. It forces black to play Na6 and Black's pieces gets too uncoordinated. The knight on b5 can't even be easily dislodged in this structure type. Another idea of Nc3 is it threatens to play e4 early on should Black wants to transpose to Pirc or KID lines. Subtleties.

Comments Few players have played the London system against me, an opening I'm not familiar with and not to fall into traps I tend to play something out of the ordinary hoping to confuse my opponent. After d4 d5 Bf4, I play e5 to attack the center. Just found out, this is the Mason variation and only found one game where this was ever played. Falke, Johannes vs Limberg, Philipp Any advice on this defense?

The video format of a large chess board and Eric's small talking head with no background clutter is great. Circa 2024, I thought it was his new format compared to last week's ugly format of Eric against a white wall & the chess board being the same size as Eric's video. But actually this is from 2020! His chess talk is fantastic but his video format has regressed into more ugly.
