We're back after a bit of a hiatus with a little something different.. Harnischfechten (armoured fighting)
This is our first attempt at 14th century fully armoured fencing, so it took a little getting used to being able to tank hits and getting in closer measure where grappling can happen.
We start the session with spears but had to put it on hold as my gorget didn't have enough coverage to be safe, once I've sourced a replacement we will continue this in a couple weeks time.
For the remainder of the session we carry on with daggers which were way more fun than I was expecting!
You can absolutely expect to see more of this style of fencing in the future and we will be looking to improve our kit as we go 😁
The plastic limb protection I am using is from HF Armory, there's some debate online as to what purpose plastic armour serves when you can just buy cheap steel, but you will NEVER be able to get anatomically shaped armour like this for the price.
For the sake of this session, both combatants are considered to be wearing plate limbs, and all other armour is 'as worn' when it comes to what it will protect against.
Our fencing masks are stand-ins for open faced bascinets, with the neck portion of the overlay as the aventail, and the lower half of the mesh to be considered open faced and therefore offering no protection. Not perfect by any means but it works well enough and get's us fencing. Enjoy!
