It's gorgeous!! I think the skirt fit the bodice because the extra fabric would have been pleated up in the missing pleat; the skirt just would have been fuller. Your mistake with the collar makes me feel better, because I've done those things too often; sometimes, fixable, sometimes not! :) Love the style, including the full shape; I don't think you need to bring it in at all. Please do show us more of the Japanese patterns!

Living in Korea, seeing the pattern, I instantly thought "Ah, it's a "free size" pattern." Buying clothes in Asia as a South African, is constant trial-and-error. Luckily, maternity-wear here is a similar style to your pattern and lots of pinafores...bonus during the summer's humidity!😅

I think the reason the bodice still fit the skirt without that 5th pleat is because to measure how much fabric you need for pleats, you measure then x3 that measurement, so you still ended up with the correct measurement because essentially you didn't have the extra fabric that would have been folded in on itself to make the pleat, if that makes sense. So it was a very happy coincidence, that resulted in a lovely dress being made without too much fuss in making the bodice and skirt fit together!
@BettsiLedesma
@BettsiLedesma 2 месяца назад
It's really cute, Janelle! I hope you keep it as is- the architecture of the dress is so interesting and adding waist ties will change the design intent, I think. Of course, you have to do what is best for you, but honestly, it is really lovely as is. Thanks for this video- I've always been curious about the Japanese pattern books.

Pleats aren’t bad, you did just fine. 👍 I always mark mine at the top within the seam line. I use an arrow >< for direction and a small mark for where it is to meet. Then you don’t see the marker. I pin if I am making something in which the pleats are sewn down, so I can pin where it needs to stop. Pleating takes a lot of material, but so does gathering. 🫣😬 Your dress looks beautiful. ❤👍

One tip I learned when I first started overlocking was to buy a couple of neutral thread colours rather than white or black. So I got natural and light grey and dark grey. They don’t stand out as much as white on your coloured items.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, the Japanese patterns and instructions are very meticulously done, with numbers to help with the order in which it must be done, and the illustrations are very clearly drawn. On the drawing we can see that the sailor collar was put reverse side on the body right side. I understand that read the Japanese can be a hurdle, but in fact it is easier than you would think.
