Its called Troxler effect. the image around your focal point gets blurry and distorted, so the Pareidolia try to make a new face with that messed up information an get theses monsters from hell :p
Kinda interesting how the faces distort because your peripheral vision isn't that good. I wonder if that's the reason why "uncanny valley" faces spook humans so much.
Peripheral vision isn't as good, but our brains try REALLY hard to recognize faces. It's some weird survival mechanism somewhere deep in there. The combination of these two things, you see it for yourself.
@@jimzamerski Your brain can find a face in anything from a cloud to a fancy decorative towel. When I was a kid I would lay awake at night and find random faces and shapes in the textured ceiling.
The more I zone out, the crazier the faces get. If I focus my attention slightly to the left of the red dot, I start seeing the faces on the left almost perfectly mirrored in the center.
knowing that we have dedicated parts of our brains that recognize human faces, it makes me wonder if what we see here are what our faces might look like to dogs and cats or something

This is so weird, because at first the faces just distorted and looked kinda odd and even cartoonish, but then after a few more seconds, they started to lose features entirely. Like, their eyebrows would disappear, then their eyes, then their nose and that's when I got a little freaked out.
And it gives you just enough time to visualize their features in your head, you can even draw them!...😄 *-and hang them on your ceiling when you try to sleep-*

jesus christ they actually turn really terrifying if you never look at them. they sometimes have their eyes merged, their eyebrows look weird, and sometimes their skin tone changes, among other things

man the illusions i saw were heads being flipped upside-down, faces being tiny and scrunched in the center of the face, mismatched facial features wild
I was walking in a park after sunset, it was getting dark quick and suddenly a person walked by and I swear they had a demon face. The combination of darkness + peripheral vision really messed me up. I can't forget the spooky experience lol

The changes were literally them becoming terrible ai images in my mind, like mouths bending, eyes merging, eyebrows dissapearing, skin tones changing, and even them becoming a bit cartoony

most of them lost their eyes, their head got bigger, and their smiles stayed there for me idk seems like they had a disability or something cuz ive seen someone with a distorted face in real life so i think its not scary,
Okay so staring right at the dot makes the faces go all screwy and creepy, but when it says "alternate your attention" I think I'm doing something wrong because when I look back at the faces they're normal again
That’s literally the point. This should proof that you only see the distorted faces when you look at the red dot, the faces actually stay perfectly normal and dont get distorted, it just seems like that, so you’re not doing anything wrong at all.
Don't know how this is news to anybody, this is just how people's faces truly look when you're not focusing on them, or you're not there to see them. Even your own face.
