We're reviewing the ATD1 from Attitude Supply. This is a swiss army knife of a bag that can span 20L of capacity to 55L and everything in-between. It comes with durable 500D Cordura, YKK zips, and some great features. Although I struggled with certain aspects of it, the ATD1 is a Utilitarian Dream!

Great review. I have yet to try this pack, mostly because it's just too large for my use case. You mentioned getting rid of some packs. Do you have any favorite platforms/sites that you regularly use for this? And do you have any advice on the best and cheapest way to mail backpacks? Trying to get rid of some packs I don't use, so I can make room for my favorites :)

On Facebook I am part of the Carryology Classified group. I totally recommend it. That group of people has helped increase my knowledge of carry, companies, materials, etc. Also, many bag designers and makers are active members. So it’s cool to be able to chat with the people behind the bags. You should join up! Some folks have talked about Pirateship.com, I tend to just use UPS and reuse Amazon boxes. If I can’t sell a bag to the Facebook group, as a last resort, I go to EBay.

I love my backpack. Wish I had waited for the ADT2 it's a bit too big for me even at 6'3". And way too many straps. Took me forever to figure out how to manage them

This bag is a no-go for me. It’s just way too big and like you said, way too strappy. I just can’t do a bag with that much material as an EDC. When you strap it down to 20 liters or whatever the smallest size is, you’re going to end up with a visual mess strapped to your back. I suppose if I was going to travel for an extended period of time, maybe... but even then, I don’t know. I appreciate the review and your honest opinion and I’m for sure looking forward to that GR1 review. I’ve been looking at GR1s for months, but haven’t pulled the trigger. Goruck = buy it for life.... well at least that’s what I’ve been told. Thanks!!

Attitude Supply has done a great job with this bag. It’s súper versatile. In talking with Michele Fasano, the designer behind the pack, he did mention that features have trade offs. So this expandability and versatility has the trade off of the straps. Some people don’t mind it too much. If I take my Peak Design duffel bag when traveling, the ATD1 is a great travel companion, especially if the trip is more city trekking or hiking. And yeah GORUCKs are an investment, but they’ll last a long long time, plus their SCARS repair program is stellar.

I use the ATD as a Travel/Work Bag, whenever my CPL28 is not big enough, for that its great, I stuff a ridiculous amount of sh... in it :D I also have a GoRuck in 1000D, but its not very gentle to my merino shirts.. So I dont travel with it.

Am considering between the alpha and the atd1 for general edc/travel use, My concern about the ATD1 is that the zippers to the main compartment (reverse clamshell) sits so close to the back panel, This would mean that most of the weight/pressure from the load in the bag will be on the zipper pulls.... Would love to hear your thoughts/experience with this thus far? Thanks! :)

Hey dude! So sorry, I didn’t see this comment. I’ve since sold the bag, but I am pretty cognizant of those type of things because the Wandrd PRVKE has the exact issue you’re describing. I don’t remember this bag having that issue. If I am not mistaken, the straps are attached to the bag above the zips. And not connected to the panel the zips open. Even if the V1 or V2 have the issue, I would imagine the latest version would fix it. Still, even with the Wandrd PRVKE 31L fully packed, I’ve not had any issues with the zips giving way to pressure.

Do you think this bag would work as a bicycle commuting backpack for everyday use (commuting to work, gym, groceries etc)? Would it be able to carry Gym clothes (clean and dirty) and a pair or shoes without mixing? I suppose it would require packing cubes for that use case but asking about volume and shoulder/back comfort when carrying a larger load.

Hey Naveem, seems like you have a pretty varied set of use cases - and that is exactly the type of thing the ATD1 excels at. As a bike commuter, the added sternum & hip straps would come in handy. I would recommend packing cubes for sure, especially in dealing with dirty clothes and shoes. As for carrying a heavy load, the frame sheet does a very good job of helping to distribute the weight, and the shoulder straps are beefy enough.

Great review. Can I ask you in the carry on dimension how much liter you can stuff in this bag ? It's difficult to understand if I want use as a one bag travel if this bag is right to put in my stuff in the max dimension of the airlines
@ofthetraveler
@ofthetraveler 2 года назад
Hey Fabrizio, the ATD1 has a wide range of capacity. It can compress to 20L which is perfect for EDC or Day Trips, up to 50L which is the maximum liter capacity for many airlines carry-on. As a one bag travel pack, it would be an EXCELLENT choice since this one bag can adapt to your needs.

@@ofthetraveler thanks for the answer i was choosing between this and the peak design travel backpack but I think this is a little bit bigger tu put stuff in

@@fabriziogargiulo7435 Absolutely. I will say that Peak Design just released a 30L Travel Bag that looks gorgeous. Also they have their 45L. I’d be careful of fully packing out the ATD1, you’d be using the full roll top section and it’s going to look weird. You can also check out my review of the Bellroy Transit Plus.

Oh man, I sold it a while back. And honestly, I sincerely regret doing so. On the bright side Attitude Supply just announced their ATD2, and the ATD1 is supposed to be restocked at some point later this year.
