Thanks for the different videos on the Arctic Cat. I have a 2007 650 H1 and I was having some fuel line issues that I repaired, basically, dry rot, cracks in hoses. Replaced the mechanical fuel pump at the same time. ATV was running fine, starting right up. Oh, and I did learn from another RU-vid video about the little carburetor priming lever that is very handy to know. Anyway, I noticed that I did not put the little rubber red terminal protector back on correctly. So, I took off the positive side of the cable going to the solenoid and adjusted the rubber protector and as I was going to put it back on, I touched it against the negative side of the solenoid and without the key being turned on the ATV started up. I stopped the motor with the switch. Now, when I turn on the ignition and push the green start button, nothing happens. I am thinking I fried the solenoid. Fuses are good, battery is good, everything was working fine until that grounding moment. Just wanted to get some second opinions or thoughts. I know, I should have disconnected the battery first. Anyway, I did order another solenoid from Amazon because they ship faster and it is hunting season. I hope I don't have issues like the ones described by Gary.

Yes, that may have shorted the solenoid. A new one should get you going again!

Thanks for the great video and advice. I too had an issue with a single "click", coming from the starter solenoid (on my 2003 Bayou 250). I watched your video and all the other starter/starter solenoid related RU-vid videos available and was convinced that I had a bad started solenoid based on the videos and the fact that the single "click" sound came from the solenoid, not the starter. There were numerous aftermarket starter solenoids available on Amazon for around $10 so I figured I would try the least expensive and easiest repair (compared to replacing the starter itself) first...what a hassle! I bought and returned starter solenoids from 4 different sellers due to the "B" (for battery) and "M" (for motor) being on opposite sides from what the description pictures showed and that the description clearly stated the solenoid was compatible with my specific ATV...maybe it doesn't matter? I don't know though because it turned out that the single "click" coming from the starter solenoid was actually caused by a bad starter. For me, the final clue was that I couldn't "jump" the starter by connecting the solenoid terminals with a screwdriver. I am sure that there are other more exact diagnostics I could have done with a meter but I replaced the starter and everything worked fine, even the original starter solenoid.

You can rebuild the starter with new brushes and bearings but sometimes they get burned up pretty bad inside. Glad you got it figured out! 👍🏼

@@ArcticFrost Thanks, good idea. I was planning to take the old OEM starter apart to see if it would be worth rebuilding for a spare as I have two Bayou 250's (2003 and 2009) so will probably need another starter eventually.

@@garydillon7765 so m its been a while but mine does a single click right by the batter i think on the solenoid so should i just get a new starter or what

@@SleezyGM An aftermarket solenoid on Amazon is pretty inexpensive if you want to try that first or try "jumping" the started by touching the 2 solenoid terminals at the same time with a screwdriver (with key in on position)...if this causes the starter to start then you have a bad solenoid. If not, then it's probably the starter. I did the starter replacement myself. It wasn't a bad job but requires taking off the exhaust. Make sure to soak the exhaust bolts with some kind of penetrating oil and remove bolts carefully...a broken exhaust bolt is a real pain...good luck!

so if you wont be able to jump terminals of solenoid, its starter? sometimes it comes sparks doing it and sometimes not. So im guessing my starter is somehow bad in the brushes or sum

My ATV's battery terminals are definitely loose so I'll check if she starts after I tighten the bolts, I'll edit my comment if it works or not

You’ll definitely want to tighten them up to keep a good connection.

I replaced the battery, starter and starter solenoid. Battery terminals are tight and it still only clicks

Sounds like the starter is bad.

Watched your video, have a 2003 CAT 400, have the clicking noise, bought a solenoid from artic dealer and think my starter is good, took it off and hooked it directly to 12 v and cranks over just need to locate that solenoid, is it at the rear of bike on right side?
@ArcticFrost
@ArcticFrost Год назад
Yes, it should be located near the battery. The battery terminals hook up directly to it. 👍🏼

My 4 wheeler doesn’t click or start. I tightened the battery. Only the green lights comes on showing that it’s on neutral. Do I replace the battery ? I replaced the solenoid not that long ago.

Check the wiring running from the battery to the starter solenoid and starter. Also check the wiring to the ignition and start button, there may be a bad connection somewhere. Also could be a bad starter.

Hello. What if you hear click but voltage is zero?

Sounds like the battery is dead. You can get it load tested to confirm at your local auto parts store but you’ll probably need a new battery.
