It certainly is working well for you mate. The addition of a smoother ride and some high tech gear is only going to make the task far more efficient and enjoyable. Good job👍👍
A lot of the gear was transferred off my old quad mate. I'd had that bike 12 years and it was all made by me back when I got it. The actual Suzuki quad cost me $7.5k.
Some great tips there for quad bike riders it's the best set up i have seen. I have been shooting from a rest like yours for years now there (unbeatable) and that muffler is brilliant i switched over to farm bikes for the same reason (deadly quiet) your experience shows. Most riders underestimate the stealth aspect. Nice work
Thanks mate. Yeah I think the noise aspect is even more important with ATV's and Side by Sides getting bigger engines with more noise. Especially when the farmers are often shooting themselves off the buggies and the critters now associate the 4 stroke engines with BAD stuff.
Excellent….. you build it, you try it, you modify it and refine it adding new ideas etc, nothing more satisfying than developing your passion. Well done, enjoy.
Power steering and independent rear suspension (age of my old bike too). I really like this King Quad, IMO it's a better bike than the newer Honda's I have riden.
That thermal/light arm to the screen is a bloody good idea As is the muffler and bent ali for the rifles on the side, i used to use a scabbard as well as the front mounts that, but that looks quicker to bring an rifle to bear,
Thanks mate. I'm used to the box in front. It'll obstruct a little of the vision down at an angle it's never an issue in the paddocks. I only hit two rocks I didn't see last night 😂.
Just a quick question Is there anything that you would change if you were to get a new bike and set up also what is the best thermal scope for around 2 thousand dollars
No I think the bike still works well to this day. And no thermal is worth buying for $2k I'm afraid. Double that and you'll be in the level of usable gear IMO. Under that it's just blobs.
Thanks John, Works very very well in the paddocks. Still a few refinements required but that's more to taylor the lighting to what I want with switching.
That’s an ace set up. Going to have to convince my brother to go a build like this would make clearing up on the bigger bits of ground easier. Love the videos Brett Brown Scotland
Love the thermal spotter setup, have been looking into doing similar to our X-Trail for foxes, but trying to choose the right monitor is a minefield, was it a simple task connecting or did you need any special cables? Thanks in advance! ;)
Great rig mate. Just wondering if you run a second battery for all the electronics. Knowing we live in the same area do you have the details of the metal fabricator you used for your front box?
My InfiRay E6+ came with a small lead that fits the hardwired output. It's just AVi from that into the screen. I did make a full run through video on my Patreon (tier 3 & 4) with how the screen works, links to parts needed etc.
Thanks for showing your gear. I must say after watching quite few of your videos you are a very clever man. You do things well and have a knack for communicating well also. I am glad I found you and I am learning all the time. I did quite bit of shooting in my younger days and now after RE acquiring some rifles again ( I have a Tikka T3x in .222) I am keen to try some thermal style shooting at only rabbits foxes cats and perhaps wild dogs... I thank you again Jeff ( Melbourne)
Thanks Jeff. Dunno about clever 😳. But I try to get actual user feedback across to you guys that's unbiased. Welcome back into the fray, it's certainly a dynamic space.
Very nice setup, if I had more land to shoot on I would do a similar setup to yours. The farm I shoot on in the UK is only 200 acres very small compared to the scale in Australia. I have tried to use a quad bike but spend more time opening and closing Gates so now i just lamp on foot. How many Acres or hectares do you have permission to shoot over and is this your full time job?
I'm a recreational hunter, this is not my job. But get out a few nights a week weather pending. Fortunately have a fair bit of access ranging from smaller 80 acre blocks up to 14,000 acres. If it's under 500 acres I just walk, gates suck and certainly slow things down sometimes.
Hey Nathan do you find that after alot of riding your scopes lose their zero or has there been any damage due to the rifles being in those mounts whilst cruising around the properties?
Absolutely zero issues with optics or mounts in the 20 yrs I've been doing it. But that's why I use quality gear, not cheap stuff as it cops a fair flogging.
Only just found your channel, and slowly working my way through your videos. Just wondering if you'd be willing to share the measurements of the rifle mount on the side of your quad. Would love to make one up for my quad when I pick it up next week.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK thanks! I’ve watched a heap of your videos and keep coming g back for more 👍🏻 can you point me in the direction of the video with the link to the tripod you use? I thought I’d saved the video but🤷♂️.
I've a full rundown video, parts list and description of how it all works on my Patreon mate. Sorry but I get asked heaps and as a non retailer I need a return on the information I put out there 👌
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK I have recently purchased infiray fh35r an was planning on wiring it to my iPad but apparently this isn’t possible. Was told I could wifi it but not sure if it will work where no phone reception and possibly not as good quality as direct wired ?
Brilliant! Regarding the front storage box that you had fabricated did you have to do anything special/different to a normal aluminium tool box so that it could support the weight of the rifles/hold the bracket? I'm assuming it needed to be reinforeced. Cheers
Hi mate. What would you like to know. It's 50x50x6mm aluminium angle. Cut, bend and welded to match the guard angle. Bolted onto the rear rack with U bolt's. The actual gun rack is just a twin Kolpin job.
Hi mate. Running a XEYE E3Max Scanner and Thermion XQ50 scope. I've a review on E3Max on the channel from a while back. Scope review will come when I've spent more time with it.
Hi EDGE of the OUTBACK, I am looking at using a thermal camera for my final year project and was wondering how you were able to get a hard-wired connection going. So far none of the sights I have looked at mention being able to hard-wire straight to an external display. Many Thanks. WK.
