Funny how the sight and sound of an ident conjours up the title music of a programme: for ATV, it's the banjo music of The Kids from 47a or the music for Crossroads; for Thames it's The Sweeney; for Southern it's How; for Anglia it's Sale of the Century or Tales of the Unexpected.

Crossroads, a soap opera which was utterly crap production/writing wise, but pure comedy gold to watch. Wobbly sets, terrible acting and totally unbelievable stories.
@stickytapenrust6869
@stickytapenrust6869 6 месяцев назад
@@johnking5174If you watched it, you’d realise that the sets/scenery were no better or worse than anything else on UK TV at the time. That myth came from the show’s first few months when it used scenery flats until ATV sent someone up from Borehamwood to Birmingham in early 1965 to build proper scenery for it. The acting and the sometimes ludicrous plots were the fault of ATV management because they expected too much of a soap that they refused to adequately equip with resources. If you’re making 5 episodes of drama a week that bankrolls your income, at least spend some money on equipping it for decent acting (by increasing the rehearsal time) and editing and cut down the number of episodes *recorded* every week (but keep the recording slots) to give writers more time to hone the scripts and use the spare recording slots for re-shooting scenes!

@Slapstick Genius: That sadly happened in the early 1990's but up until then, no regional accents and tbh better for it. You see you had to be understood and lots of regional accents can be quite strong, so a received English accent was required whether you were broadcasting in Northumberland or London.

Well spotted. The CBS logo was cited as inspiration for ATV's logo - though it was designed with Associated Broadcasting Company (ABC) in mind and not ATV. The British cinema chain Associated British Cinemas (ABC) complained about it - especially as they wanted to use their ABC brand for their new TV stations. Hence a quick rebrand from Associated Broadcasting Company to Associated Tele Vision - ATV. But then a lot of companies had the name "associated" ... it was a fad of the time.
