My mom heard the dermatologist wrong and said I had skin cancer.... I had a panic attack then the next day my dad went down to the dermatologist office only to find out I had an moderate A typical mole.

Thank you for this! I was diagnosed with a moderate-to-severe atypical mole and have had horrible anxiety over it, thinking it meant I would definitely wind up with cancer. This calmed my fears a lot!

My son has had two melanomas (non-invasive and Breslin depth 1A) and a dysplastic compound Nevus with mild atypia. He also has about 10 atypical moles on his back. Moving on to 3 month skin checks the dermatologist took pictures of his back, etc. and will monitor them. He had his assistant explain this so I didn't get a chance to ask him, why not biopsy the ones that look atypical?

Dr. Anderson, have you used a non-invasive form of melanoma testing like DermTech?

Dr if i have a mena,oma but it didnt feel painful or bleed on its own or anything before , but by mistake i made cut on it superficially and it bleed, is it normal for melanoma to bleed from superficial scratch ! Or is it something abnormal !

I have a severely atypical mole on my right thigh and I have to wait for 2 months post biopsy for re excision. Is this too long? It’s making me anxious.

I just had a moderate/ severe atypical mole excized today on my shoulder after having a hole punch biopsy two weeks ago. I got a nice incision and stitches. My lidocaine is wearing off. Yay. Ouch. Not fun.

Thank you for your comment. Here is Dr. Anderson's response: "Personally I think it is better to biopsy the mole as it is such a simple and easy procedure with little risk. There will be a scar but I like to know what it looks like under the microscope if it looks atypical to my eye. "

I was told I had a "severely atypical mole". The weird thing is, is that it formed on top of one of my surgery incisions on my stomach. I had surgery 4 months ago for something unrelated. Can melanoma form as a result of trauma, like a surgery incision?
@DoctorpediaYT
@DoctorpediaYT 4 года назад
Thank you for your question! Here is Dr. Anderson's response: "Melanoma can grow anywhere on the skin but it is unlikely that the trauma caused a severely atypical mole to develop. The scar from the surgery can complicate how the pathologist reads the mole (how they make the diagnosis of an atypical mole) but it is not common for trauma to result in a melanoma developing. I would suggest having a conversation with your Dermatologist for how to treat this area. Thanks for the question!"

Hi, my atypical mole is right on my shin, is it going to be hard to extract it because its right next to bone? and is it more dangerous if it is a melanoma??
@DoctorpediaYT
@DoctorpediaYT 3 года назад
It is slightly harder to excise but Dermatologists are well equipped to do these procedures. An atypical mole is not a cancer and so they are a lot less dangerous than a melanoma that is a cancer.

@@DoctorpediaYT if it were to be a melanoma, would it spread faster to the bone? thanks so much

@@DoctorpediaYT Also another question I would love for you to answer, my said mole is a red/pink lesion that is somewhat atypical and has blurry borders and popped up suddenly at the size of 4-6mm, is it a concern? is it possible for a melanoma to suddenly appear at this size? is it a good sign that hair is grown out of it and that it has not destroyed the hair follicles? thanks

I had a melanoma in situ two years ago and an excision surgery. I've had several mild and moderate atypical moles removed since then. I'm facing my second excision for a moderate atypical mole that they cannot shave all of it off and has grown back. I'm tired of this. Every 3 month skin checks for the last two years. Does the cycle ever end?
@DoctorpediaYT
@DoctorpediaYT 3 года назад
Mike, Sorry for your frustration. Unfortunately a lot of this is dictated by your genetics and how much sun damage you have had over the years. It might not end but they saved your life with the melanoma diagnosis and treatment and that is important to keep in mind.

@@DoctorpediaYT I know all of this, it's just frustrating. I was irresponsible when I was young and I'm paying for it. I survived TC and five years of monitoring to now deal with this plus barretts and precancerous polyps from a colonoscopy. At least the EGD and Colonoscopies are only every 3 years now.
