RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1 Very far from the truth. I'm a big Auburn fan, but I didn't want to give up the opportunity to catch this once-in-a lifetime moment on camera. Hate that I missed seeing the play, but getting and sharing this shot makes it worth it.
purpandorange Tripods are frowned upon on the field. But, beyond that, handheld is the way to go - its good to be mobile to get different angles. I'm a professional videographer first and fan second... sometimes I don't get to see the game if I'm doing my job correctly.
That is Aron Toft who married a very good friend of ours...she is an Auburn graduate. He is from Georgia and did his undergrad at Kentucky...does anyone wonder why he reacted that way?!! He did his graduate work at Auburn. I love this video almost more than watching Chris Davis crossing the goal line. Pure joy!!
KT McClary He reacted that way because he believes in Auburn and loves it ;) Oh, and it being the most hyped Iron Bowl in history along with the greatest college football ending in history probably had a little something to do with it too.
ya know... i never thought about it before but i have found a whole new level of respect for band members. how the hell do you go from pure elation to playing music in 1/2 a second when every fiber of your body wants to storm the field and burn down a goal post?
L CARLTON Orrrr look at some of the girls playing flutes in the front...they aren't even playing, just screaming and crying their eyes out, while they fake play. I can't blame them really. It was the sports moment of the year.
AU band member here. My answer is that everyone in the band knew that if they didn't have their instrument up, they would be the only one in the band not playing. No one wants to be that guy. It's that kind of commitment. We can wait a minute before going crazy (except our GTA in the front there).
This video is so utterly fantastic there are no words. For those kids to have the discipline to stay focused and play in the midst of that emotion and chaos is incredible. They are providing the soundtrack to one of the greatest moments in sports history.
Thanks to them, this remains to this day the only fight song I can recognize. I can't remember my high school or college fight songs at all (the fact that we stunk in most sports might have something to do with that), but the other week at my parents' place I heard this from the other room and knew immediately my Dad was watching a replay of an Auburn game on the TV.
As a member of the AUMB (tuba), it's really great to see this! I can promise you around half of us were playing and the other half screaming, for obvious reasons! WDE and War Damn Band!
I don't know how many times I've watched this video just to look at different people's reactions. I always find something different to laugh out loud at.
Professional - when, with every fiber of your body you want to join your classmates in storming the field ... and yet you stay to do your job as best you can!
It's fun to watch each of the players in the band as it dawns on them what is happening. My favorite is the flute player who is so excited that she stands up on the wall. Our Iron Bowl party pretty much was the same way.
I may yell Roll Tide Roll, sure, but I thought this reaction was absolutely PRICELESS! Amazing how to go from excited cheering into playing the fight song so fast. No matter what, this was far and away the BEST Iron Bowl EVER!
this video was amazing for so many reasons.. first.. who would have thought to video the band at this moment.. and the reaction to the play with the great historic radio call made it a video I actually cried with joy watching.. amazing video .. could be as one of the comments below the best sports video of all time... so lucky to have watched it... the joy that comes through as the band starts to play their signature theme was super!
Pick one person to watch and watch the video, then replay and pick another. This way you can enjoy the video like thirty times. Human beings are wonderful.
I did the same! or-- am doing it! Didn't see the tall clarinet player jumping up while playing in the middle of the song the first time....or the flute player on the front right really swaying... I. Love. This!!!
This video has been selected by7 the channel as one of the best Sport videos on RU-vid and was added to the channel's playlist accordingly. Thanks for sharing.
It's hard to believe without seeing it on video that everyone in the band had enough spare attention to notice their Drum Major calling out the song to perform while the play was still in progress... I know from being there that every eye (save for this cameraman's, thankfully) in the stadium was tracking the football on that final play. THANK YOU for posting this.
Band geeks are an awesome special breed. Great job being super professional and pulling it together to play the chorus to an amazing moment. You are such an awesome part of the game.
This....is....AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Love the AUMB! Gotta love the execution of the Fight Song and the drum major! Somebody needs to hire her in their company when she graduates!
I will never ever get tired of watching this. Thank you videographer for hanging in there for this shot. How did you do it?! The one person in the stadium looking the other way.
Thank you to the marching band who works so hard and adds so much to every game. I love the way the girls are jumping and yelling and then trying to play. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
I love this video so much! It's sheer jubilation! And there has to be something very special about celebrating with music the way the band can. Thanks for filming and posting this! Although, I think I've watched it WAY to many times. lol
what agreat day to play the cymbals!!! All of my kids were in band---but this puts even a new perspective on the bands dedication to their role during a ball game!!! I don't see how they got it together to play-- I know at our house--- we were going berserk and was literally shaking with excitement. I wanted to run outside and just yell haha!!! War eagle!! Best band video EVER!!!!!!!!
We knew we had a job to do! It was certainly difficult amongst the excitement but we know that the best way to show our collective excitement and amazement is to put everything we had into that particular time through War Eagle :)
War Eagle, fly down the field Ever to conquer, never to yield War Eagle, fearless and true Fight on, you orange and blue Go! Go! Go! On to victory, strike up the band Give 'em hell! Give 'em hell! Stand up and yell - hey! War Eagle, win for Auburn Power of Dixieland
I am no Auburn fan but I must give respect to the band. That was the most surprising play of the year and they regained composure enough to play an instrument quickly.
Looking at it, they barely did. It took some of those flutes and piccolos a few seconds of screaming to realize that they were supposed to be playing. Even then, I saw a few take some scream breaks. If that were me, there is no way I would be playing. I'd be up there screaming and jumping around with the director.
This reminds me of my high school team who with 9 seconds left returned a kickoff 80 yards to win a game that they were down 35-34 in. I was in band and we we all couldnt believe it and going absolutely insane. It was amazing but it definately doesnt compare to this.
Hey Bob I just ordered 30 sousaphones by accident. What do I do? USE THEM ALL IN THE BAND But that's twice as many as the flutes! I DON'T CARE USE THEM ALL
My entire family are Alabama fans but you know what? Good for Auburn, good for all the fans of other teams who were rooting for Auburn. That night they showed us one very important lesson: Its not over until the clock says 0:00 and the one who wins is the one who wants it enough. Auburn wanted it more and they got it; Good game, Auburn, I look forward to Iron Bowl 2014!
I am an LSU fan but I still think auburn had one of the greatest college football seasons of all time. What a shame they couldn't pull off the upset against Florida state
Too cool...lots going on here to see...the band leaders are watching the play, and keeping everybody focused...cause they provided the soundtrack in the aftermath of the play...
Im a Bama alum. That is one of the most amazing plays in College Football History. Congrats on the win and then braking the streak of SEC dominance in the national championship. Sorry, I had to say that. I will lose all cred with Bama friends if I don't. Peace, Love and Roll Tide Roll.
It would be so easy for these guys to forget who they were and what they were supposed to be doing after that finish, so I just love the fact the tuba players are ready to go before Chris Davis has even reached the end zone.
