I am a PR and also a student in Auckland uni, which does not sit far from the intersection between Wellesley and Queen Street in 0:41. I was really expecting some major differences from now when I clicked into this video, but turns out the the buildings, the ASB Bank, the traffic lights, even the white line for crossing stayed the same. I expect this to stay the same for the next 10 years.

98 was one of if not the last of the good years imo. Then the internet became widely used, smartphones happened, social media happened, terrorism happened, music became atrocious and people became self absorbed wankers who are so desperate to advertise their lives to the world on a daily basis... People were much more real and not so materialistic back then, especially New Zealanders. Miss that time.

@Mohamed Ali I agree. I was living in Auckland at the time so am more aware of NZ. 90s was so good. Really miss it a lot.

Totally agree mate, Auckland was just starting to grow up, not flooded with immigrants, skytower was built, house prices still affordable. I could tell even back then it would rapidly change.

@@mickeybowmeister1944 not to mention you could buy a house in Auckland in those days even working on a supermarket wage. The Banks and John Key killed that pretty quickly, bastards

Wow wish there were other videos of Auckland in the 90’s…this seems to be the only one? Love seeing it. I was only 6 in 1998 but I miss this time of my life. 90’s were a great decade….

Same here, there's not really many about - in fact isn't too much on NZ in the late 90s at all. Such an awesome time of my life, and and awesome era of time to be alive. 1997-2000 period were fantastic years. I was 16/17 in 1998 and still remember that time fondly and extremely vividly. Was the year I left school at 6th form, got my first ever job, and rented a house (back when could afford to alone! lol) I was living in Tauranga at the time and used to go to Auckland a lot..... Man 24 years ago....really doesn't seem that long ago, but in other ways it does.

The Auckland Airport looked way better in the 90's - such a shame where it has gone. People used to travel to go to airport as a destination without even having anyone travelling it was so good. Now it's a hole.
@tkara1980
@tkara1980 Год назад
Another thing too is the pier holding the gates was not separated between arrivals and departures until '05 due to 9/11. So passengers arriving and departing at the gates could mingle per say. Notice how much ample space there was in the pier compared to today. The pier separation project pretty much crammed everyone in. Though I don't have a problem with separating arrivals and departures for security and efficiency purposes. They should have built a separate pier or concourse to the airport's northwest solely for International Arrivals.

The final part shows what the airport gates looked before the pier separation divided it into separate arrivals and departures. They should have built an arrivals pier separately to the airport's northwest. This could have been done during the airport's 1994 to 1998 upgrade.
