Our Ultimate World Cruise first stop in NEW ZEALAND is Auckland! We actually don't see much of Auckland as we are super excited to take the ferry over to a WELL known island just off the coast...Waiheke!
Waiheke got us all loopy and for more reasons than just the beautiful island...watch and see!

New Zealand is amazing. The North Island is more actively volcanic in nature. Too bad your only port was Auckland. I was able to explore the city on foot. Though quite hilly, I remember some cute neighborhoods and interesting church architecture. Other parts of the North Island reveal Maori culture, and thermal springs. I had a pleasant coast-to-coast walk just on the outskirts of Auckland following a trail meandering through grassy dormant volcano craters amidst herds of sheep. Further south, I experienced fishing on a huge lake, also once the crater of a now dormant volcano and exploring a Glow worm grotto there too. not to mention a flight over several steaming craters. The South island is even more stunning, with rugged mountains, crystal clear lakes, fjords, and glaciers. I felt really at home on the South Island as it reminds me of my home province of British Columbia, Canada as well as the coast of the Alaska Panhandle. Hope you'll go back one day as it's worth the trip outside of the cruise port area of Auckland.

LOVE ALL OF THAT! We did Brisbane and AUckland. Loved the Waiheke Island but Auckland downtown was mehhh... Would love to see the South side!
