I was luke warm when it was released. I now really like some of the models, and the design is bold. Instead of introducing a dress line to compete with Patek, Vacheron, etc., they Offshore'd a dress watch around the Royal Oak heritage. It's an architectural wonder. Thanks for the video!
I am really glad you reviewed this. Two of my buddies have it, and I was blown away when I handled it. The volumes are incredible, as are the architecture of the lugs and mid case. This absolutely doesn't come out in pictures, which is why, I assume, people found it bland when it came out. Then, the finishing and the details are everything you'd expect from AP. I would very happily own this watch, though I'd chose a white gold version.
This is how AP should be. Sadly as much as its a fantastic watch the Royal Oak is a hype watch now and mostly people buy to show off. A real holy trinity customer is not the person that shouts I HAVE MONEY. I am in waiting list for this purple and I can't wait to have my hands on it.
Love it or hate it, the devil is in the details and you gotta give some respect to AP for this one. Few modern watches today evoke “futurism,” and this one sure does it👏
I don’t know how you can live at that height! It always makes the soles of my feet itch when I stand next to a window and I can see cars hundreds of feet directly below me. Anyway, I really like this configuration, dark purple and black is stunning next to the brushed gold. Looks brand new.
This is the only 11:59 I like but I think it would be cool if one of the high polished bands on the case sides was made out of a super dark purple ceramic. It feels like it needs slightly more purple and that all RG case could use a highlight. PS did you know you can get a purple dial 11:59 chrono for less than a Daytona? Something ain't right in this hobby, I can tell you that.
@@sn00ze88 sorry my English is bad. I wanted to say that this model was far away from the light compared with the RO and it was not deserving this treatment
Not for me and I wouldn’t pick it up as an AP while the other models stand up from meters away but love your passion , presentation and review . You should sell watches when you retire from the markets !!!
Uptick can u suggest a watch that is not too flashy. For example one can wear without being mugged in the UK? Since HK is such a safe place, what we wear here is really looking for trouble else where.
This is a great looking ap watch. The purple looks really nice. Im tempted to buy this exact one. Not sure why so much hate..perhaps people can't accept change. I think it's a clean and modern looking watch as opposed to the clunky ROO. Those are monstrosities...in a bad way.
If you put it on the purple aligator it get's really dressy. I have the burgundy, but I'm getting that black rubber coated strap as well to get it more sporty.
To me it’s a lovely watch that’s a bit of a misfit. I’ve seen it on my wrist, and it’s just too massive and lacks the elegance I prefer in a dress watch. On the other hand the intricate case lines make it too intricate and almost “baroque” to be a daily wearer. It’s a beautiful watch and looks great on your wrist Uptick, but I can think of many other things I’d prefer to do with 25K.
got offered a red 3 hander code and a purple chrono 11.59 but turned down both. My CS experience at the boutique was horrendous and will not be doing business with them.
Don't worry at all Nathan. all new biz within that AP corp model (both boutique and house) requires all new clients to start off with these Code models. Next, if you would like to upsize to a three hander RO (Neither the 16202 nor the 50th anniv models) you would need to purchase at least the perpetual code in order to qualify. The steel/Ti metal ROO are easier to get, but they are still pretty much waitlisted or available to new clients if introduced by one of their VVIPs. The AP House/Boutique model is basically a RM-lite version in terms of how sales allocation is made. Personally, I hold no grudges as a biz is run to maximize profits.
@@sn00ze88 i am wondering about this for a while now. I have been offered 3 hander code, roo and roo diver, i am looking to pick one of those for my first ap. I also have a 34mm ro in que which my sa has been hinting is probably gonna come by sooner or later(most likely diamond model). I told her that my end game is definitely the 16202st. Ofcourse i didnt get any hint on that, she just kinda smile and nod. Am i crazy for hoping a 16202st after buying two watches from them?
@@ntcp8920 yes I have, what "level" are we talking about here? a perceived "level" because of brand name or is it something that could be proven objectively?
Daniel Wellington works at a lower price point. Neither available with fancy case architecture nor fancy sapphire glass, but the design would almost be similar from 10 feet away 😂
@@kinng8014 dull round gold watches clearly aren’t my thing….. looks like a Polaris chronograph in gold to me ! But that clearly offends the AP fundamentalists.
@@sn00ze88 if DW is your thing and price point - you buy what you like and wear it in good health bud. Don’t let the watch snobs and flexers put you off !
It doesn´t speak to me, I would not wear it if I own it, I much prefer the Explorer 1 or 2, or the Submariner, or the Royal Oak ... or so many rather than this. The Patek shown is so much nicer than this AP.
Nice review. Such an odd watch. Beautifully made, no doubt and the case design is very striking and well executed. But the dial design? The numeral font? The gargantuan size? And then, the purpose - certainly no sports watch, but no elegance either. So, (indeed) like Moser, I find it disingenuous. One for those who like humble dress-down in $5k of loungewear, then dine out in a Balenciaga tracksuit. AP now only makes one good watch, which they won't sell to you and no, buying this won't get you one.
it looks like an emporio armani watch. I have to say it. It's ugly. What's with the ugly dial??Really is that the best AP could come up with? I was at the AP boutique on May 11. It's even uglier close up.
Every 11.59 is too big. The Jules Audemars line consisted of many elegant dress watches that wold fit under any cuff. In comparison, even the most basic 11.59 has a thickness of over 10mm.
I’m not sure about the comments that people don’t like it because it looks simple. H.Moser make watches with incredibly simple dials but are admired. The people who dislike feel the design doesn’t have the right balance. I personally think the case is incredibly inspired and indeed let down by the dial.
@@brandon_youtube H Moser makes simple watches with simple dials, but extremely well designed in terms of proportions and balance. No comparison In any case, don't take this the wrong way, it's just a personal opinion.
