The Audeze LCD-GX is their top end gaming headset. Many people including myself wrote this off for being a gaming headset; but after I heard it, I think it might be the best headphone Audeze currently makes (shy of the 4)

After trying the 2, 4 and gx next to each other, the gx had the best low end bass extension imo (30-40hz). It was ever so slightly less boom in the middle-low-end bass though. The gx was MUCH less tinny and bright on the high end. It really sounds great out the door.

I do wonder which would make the best planars with built in mic, the GX vs the Ananda BT, considering they are in a similar price range. I find the Ananda BT has slightly more impactful bass than the standard Ananda.

hi @Max Settings can you please recommand me something better than the GX ? i was going to the 4z and use the mic boost for gaming but is too heavy to use it for many hours each day... then i need an headphone with an mic on it. the price is not a problem

Audeze and Sennheiser are total different beast. Best to try it. Gaming I would toward LCD GX, X 2021

@@rafalonso13 ok understood. I owned HD800s they doing very good with gaming and very comfort and light headphone. Totally no clamping force to your head at all. Something you mighty have to considered that I have recently replaced the ear pad to Detoni pad. They sound more like closed back and comfort wise now it changes to a little tiny bit clamp to the ears. Sound doesn’t affect much at all. Mostly I used it for music listening because of their great soundstage signature.

Yeah take the weird 2F FR (I bought Max's LCD2F review unit some time ago), reduce the 1k shout, mid treble peak, and bring up the 4k dip and you have the GX, so basically the best FR, yep. I now also own a GX and I'm not sure which one I'm keeping, or maybe I'll just keep both lol

Metal do you game and if so whats your take on these? I bought ether cx's for gaming and havent really found them worth the money. Thanks for your input!

@@JakobWolfMinigolf If it still haze Audeze(ish) FR the upper mids will be withdrawn and some low treble will still be missing. For me they'd still need EQ.

Absolutely. The best out of all the audeze LCDs, even though x is labeled specifically as being neutral and reference grade for audio pros, these are much more neutral. I mean they all sound amazing, but the most popular one is often not the best for reference, regardless of what the manufacturers intend or claim.. like with sub $500 sennheiser Hd series (hd 600 or even hd 560s are significantly more flat and neutral, even though most people have only heard the 6xx and then go to taut them as neutral just because the manufacturer said so).

@@dustinmihalcheon5013 You're welcome. The GX also comes with an 8 foot XLR Mini 4 pin cable with integrated mic to 3.5mm termination. It is one of the most accessorised of Audeze's LCD range. In fact if you put all of the extras together is amounts to half the price of the total cost.

@@silverfox74 I've seen that. But I have a desktop Rhode microphone already so i was hoping the extra cable was long enough to come from my JDS labs and under the desk to keep things neat and tide lol.

I think Mobius is still the closest to their house target overall, but GX is tuned how I wish other far more expensive LCDs were tuned

Much better FR tuning wise, resolution and bass dynamics wise they are not as good however

So the question that I've had is: Is it more worth getting these at a lower price than the LCD-2 because these are still worthy, or is getting a real LCD-2 getting a better headphone? It's so hard to look past the "gamer" tag on these, are they more of an audiophile gaming headphone, or and audiophile headphone good for gaming. I can get these cheaper, but could I get a better HEADPHONE with the LCD-2?

Sure. But the FR won't be as good on the 2F despite being more capable

@@metal571 so the lcd 2 fazor only outperforms the GX on detail, what about the soundstage and imaging because I would like to buy one of both and if I can pay less for basically the same it would better for me

I don't have mine anymore but I think they were about on par in stage with each other so it's mostly better dynamics and resolution on the 2F

@@shadouxg7150 The level of compression it has doesn’t hinder its ability for you to feel your music. You’ll still get a sense of dynamics just not to the degree of a dynamic driver or LCD-X, for example. Additionally, its compression arguably serves to prevent fatigue over long listening sessions, a quality you want for gaming or music.

@@lennardgalander5729 Look at literally every measurement and you'll see how gronked it is. FR and THD are embarrassing. What would you expect from $11 drivers, a seat belt and a coathanger? They only have like 10 or 20 of them and already someone's broke.

The mobius microphone is horrible. I returned mine. updated firmware too. Absolutely no compairson with your test with the gx which sounded excellent.

It's the same mic, I own both and they sound the same. Obviously the Mobius mic isn't going to sound good over bt though

@@metal571 I would not even call it usable tbh, almost non-existent. I did not know the poor quality is because of the low bandwidth they get on BT. But if that's the case they should have disabled the microphone in BT mode so that I can use my iPhone's own mic when I need to take a call. I returned two pairs because of various hiss and EMI issues. It is still a very slapdash product in my opinion. Sounds great, sure, but the BT stuff is really badly implemented.

This is just not true. The Mobius microphone is fine. My voice is crystal clear in all applications. I use it for gaming and conference calls during this covid nonsense. Granted I ONLY USE USB C.

I'd urge you to review the LCD-4z before making such a statment because I think they could well be better than these in terms of flatness of the FR.

They aren't. I've used the 4Z before. No idea why it exists. I mean I do, but personally I don't see why you would buy it. It exists to be a lighter weight version of the LCD-4 that is easier to drive, but it looses so much resolution over the 4. And frankly if you are at the level of a $4000 you should have an amp. Can't imagine buying a 4Z over a full 4 personally for the same price.

@@maxsettings7884 I own them and honestly they're the best headphones I've every listened to. Never had the chance to audition LCD-4s but from what I read online they are very similar to those with apparantly even better bass and the same if not more resolution. They are a bit narrower in soundstage and I really like the fact that I can take them anywhere and power them from pretty much any sound source but I do need an amp (Questyle CMA400i) in balanced to push them to the ridiculous volumes I like to listen at so with that said, I have no regrets and to each their own I guess...

I've never enjoyed gaming with planars, and most gamers in the audio community recommend dynamics for better imaging, soundstage and long-session comfort. That FR looks fine for music though... could use slightly better bass extension. Nice review as always.
