You have to remember, that the torque had to be electronically limited to 1000Nn, otherwise it would produce more than 1150Nm and the gearbox at that time couldn't handle so much torque, for the long run at least. Today we have much better and stronger gearboxes and I have seen a modified Q7 V12 TDI with a new gearbox as well and it produced around 620hp and 1280Nm of torque! I bet it could tow a 40ton truck on an incline road with no problem..
