@@PJsprojects Many thanks and one further question, I have an Audi A3 with the same original head unit. I bought an aftermarket unit, the Alpine ILX-W690D 7" but it does not fit into the space left after I install a Connects2 fascia. Do I need to buy a separate double din cage so that it fits in the gaps?
@@Panscrank999 Sounds like you’re missing a 103mm cage kit. The cage that comes with a double din radio is 113mm high and in a lot of cases is useless.
@@PJsprojects Want to say thanks for your advice in regards to the wiring etc. Managed to get my Alpine ILX-W690D to come on and off with the ignition. I am baffled by 'cages' though. The generic Connects2 CT23UN01 is too big for this 7" unit. As you have stated, my stereo is indeed 103mm, so need that size cage. (I naively though they were all the same size). Does this mean it will then not fit in the A3 enclosure as the 'too big' 113mm did fit albeit v.snugly, so this one may be too small?
@@Panscrank999 You will need a plastic trim kit that goes with the 103mm trim kit. For the UK we have companies like Halfords that can get the exact parts you need from your reg number. For other countries try whatever larger car audio retailers are available and have reg number look up available.
Ted one should be for an external amp. You would need to check with an audio store which one you have. Companies such as Halfords can put your reg number in a computer to find what you need.
Some factory fitted units like peugeot for example dont always use a permanent live, both lives would go dead after 3 mins. An aftermarket stereo will usually need one so it wouldnt lose any saved radio stations or sound settings etc.
