A wire harness allows you to keep your factory wiring plug in case you want to put your stock radio back in. The wire harness that you get with the new radio is designed to wire up to a special wire harness adapter that connects to the factory plug in your car. No splicing and figuring out wires necessary.
Great video. Thanks for sharing man. But I am in a dilemma, here in Singapore I notice none of the mechanics disconnect the battery before working on the audio system of the car. Whenever i asked them why, they simply mentioned that there is "no need" for that. What is your opinion on this ??
I have a 2014 xb Scion. I added a Lc7i and Amp to my oem stereo. the issue is that soon as I turned the ignition on the lc7i comes on even with the stereo in the off position, looks like there is getting some signal from the speakers with out turning the stereo ON. Also I get like a his sound coming from the speakers with the stereo OFF. Sounds like the amp is on and ready to produce the sound.
Amazing video , I have a 2007 Nissan x terra , any good suggestions , I want to upgrade my stereo , with build in gps and Bluetooth music maybe rear view camera . Very nice thanks in advance
+Sonic Electronix Perhaps this is a newbie question. If I purchase a head unit equipped with the blue tooth feature. Is there anything additional I have to do as far as the installation, aside from matching the color coded wires like in the video, and plug it in? Am I required to purchase a blue tooth microphone, or is there already one built in the head unit? Thank you very much in advance and thanks for the video.:) This will save me some $$$.
I have a quick question how do you know what stereo size to get? I have a 1994 acura integra and I'm such a girl about cars so I just want to know the size that I should put lol like 7" or 6.1" ?
I'm a new car owner and I wanna know if getting a new stereo would improve sound and music quality within the car or if I would also need speaker installation throughout the car if that's what I'm looking for?
I brought a SSL radio from your company and it didn’t not work. The pieces didn’t match. But the funny thing is it said the radio fits my car Saturn 2000 ls1
I got a pd931nb im putting into a 00 toyota camary that has three harnesses i cant find the adapter that can fit it and info would be great on getting this fixed
I find it incredibly ironic that I looked up "how to install a head unit," not even including a specific model of car and this video happens to feature my car. This should make my job a lot easier.
that's not what ironic means. Ironic would be if you researched tons of videos specifically looking for your model car, and you found every model except yours. That would be ironic. Pretty much the opposite of what happened to you.
What a solid video. Excellent editing, excellent examples, excellent explanation, smooth demonstrator. 5/5 Subscribed. I'll be installing my first car radio and this is the first video I have found to help me with the process. Nice job!
+Sonic Electronix could you possibly do an install on an 09 elantra I want to change my stereo out for an aftermarket one but I can't seem to find anything on here to see what I need for it please and thank you!
After more than 25 years of thinking installing a car stereo was impossible and unimaginable, this guy changed my mind in only 13 minutes! Sometimes our limitations only exist in our mind.😮 Thanks!!
Excellent install video. Very clear and concise and makes the viewer feel capable to preform the swap. Again excellent job with this video, I will definitely be a subscriber to your channel.
This video is super professional and you understand everything, watched it three times cus i'm installing a pioneer unit into my explorer and trying to learn everything, and you've made it by far the easiest out of everyone else on youtube. Thanks!
+Sonic Electronix Would love to install double din on my 2002 Chevy Avalanche. would it be as simple for me to install as this demonstration you made ? if so would love to see what you guys carry for me to install. Thanks !
LMAO I just realized when I installed my radio I didn’t unhook my battery’s and I blew a fuse. I didn’t have lights for a like a week Becuase I couldn’t figure out which fuse it was
Great video, btw! You explained how to do everything clearly and concisely. Made it look so easy. Really learned a lot watching your video. Thanks so much! :)
Thanks for being really helpful. I'm about to try this out Saturday or Sunday and I'll post how it went. I sincerely appreciate the non-condescending tone. Everything is new to everyone at some point and I'm glad I found a good resource like this.
Excellent tutorial, guys. Very helpful and great for saving money. But I actually have a question regarding your installation kits for the single DIN. I noticed you don't have any for Mazdas. Does that mean I can't install a single DIN stereo to my 2007 Mazda 6? Or would Mazda simply fall under the Ford category since they're built under the same design? Thanks for sharing this awesome tutorial!
excellent tutorial video, I'd like to add that once you've connected the wiring and slid the head unit back into place, it's a good idea to test it before fully installing all the dash trim, it's a bit easier to find out if there is a problem and correcting it then, rather than completing the install and find out then that there is an issue, it is rare with a new stereo install but it does happen... especially test everything prior to completing the install if you're installing a used head unit or if you've later pulled out the head unit to make connections for an amp or other accessory, visually reinspect all your connections also to insure everything is still in good condition
I haven't switched out a stereo since the late 80's or early 90's. I wasn't sure I'd be able to handle any of the new stuff, but it appears to not have changed all that much. I don't know if the rest of your videos have the same production values, but you did a remarkable job on this one. It was laid out in an intuitive manner and standard terminology used is great for us lay people. Thank you for the post and it did it's job. I am going to look to purchase from you guys.
this really very simple .. the person in the video is very clever and very talented , he gave a very simple and clear explanation.. but i have questions ... what is the best kind of cars stereos that i might buy ? and does all car has the same size of stereos ?
I have recently bought and purchased a Sony XAV 68-BT from you guys, and I installed it in my 2005 Mazda 3 and it looks great and sounds great. I just have one problem. When I turn my car off with my lights on, the beep beep doesn't go off anymore. I am wondering how do I fix this??
If your butt connectors are not the correct size, and your wire is cheap, you might have problems with the butt connectors. If everything is size matched, the protective shielding on the wire will hit a lip on the butt connector and make the wire stop, however the exposed wire should go into the center of the connector. The wire harnesses are color coded, so you can leave out the colors you don't need. Not all radios have all of the wire colors on a wiring harness.
If you wanted to install a tablet, you would have to custom fabricate a mount for it or have someone do one for you. We do custom fabrications if you can ship us your dash panel. Connecting a tablet to a single DIN radio via USB or 3.5MM headphone jack is the easiest way to do it. You can hide the radio in the dash or glove box if you have room.
You need an amplifier to run subwoofers, they cannot be powered by your stereo. Your stereo will connect to an amplifier which will then connect to your subwoofer(s). We do have a video on how to wire a subwoofer, we also have a Knowledge Base article written on how to do it located at the bottom of our website, just look for the link.
We offer free wiring harness and dash kit with any headunit purchase. All you need to do is add the headunit to your cart and checkout, you will be able to input your vehicle information and the items will appear automatically. However, if you have a specialty dash kit or wiring harness, we can't offer it for free.
Excellent presenter, awesome speaker, clear voice, professional feel, look and presentation. entire presentation / DYI experience made easy by how talking while doing and explaining what is being done. very nice job (could be a professional actor?)
If the radio is 7 inches wide or more, and if it is 4 inches high or more then you have a double din or the ability to have a double din. If you go to our website, you can input your vehicle information and our car fit guide will tell you. Just go to any radio and it there will be an option to choose your vehicle.
The CD player in the trunk would be removed. You would replace just the radio itself. Unfortunately, the Grand Marquis can only fit a single DIN or a DIN and a half radio. If you wanted a double DIN, it would require cutting into the dash.
Your power wire and accessory wires may not be connected correctly. The radio needs power from the battery, which is the red wires on the harness, and then it needs a 12V turn on signal, which should be the yellow wire.
There are tons of resources online that can help you install your radio. We do not have an install video for your vehicle. The kit will tell you what to use, some kits use the factory brackets, some use their own.
Because humans are judgmental creatures and you are attracted to this video because you wish to judge us on the content and quality of it in comparison to your own knowledge and experience? Or, perhaps because you love us!? :P
The vehicle has a wiring harness and the stereo will have a wiring harness. You need a special wire harness that connects from your vehicle to the new radio harness. That might be why you are confused.
More often then not, we tend to beat their prices apples to apples. They give out free shipping because you pay more for the items you are getting, so you are actually paying for shipping anyway.
Do all OEM radios have the orange/white wire so the LCD screen dims when I turn my headlights on? What if my OEM wire harness doesn't have the wire that will dim my LCD screen? I really want my screen to dim at night so the screen isn't so bright but I'm scared my stock factory radio (which is just like the one removed in this video) won't have that wire.
Graciel leal after some research, I think the harness adapter that you buy separately (specifically for your car) has the dimming wire and then you connect it to the dimming wire on the harness that comes with the double din. So it should dim
We cannot offer specialty dash kits for free, they are simply too expensive and only certain vehicles require them. We will discount it for you though if you purchase it together with a headunit.
***** No, you disconnect the Negative (Ground), not the positive. Because if that positive wire touches anything conductive, it'll create a spark (Current) which could lead to bad things :P
Yes, we will ask you for your vehicle info and provide a dash kit and wiring harness for free unless you have a specialty kit and harness, at which point we will discount them.
That is because you have a specialty harness which simply cannot be offered for free. The standard harness does not have any special circuitry, which most vehicles use.
Any Single DIN stereo will work for your vehicle if you have the Metra 89-9400 trim plate. Consider going with a nice Pioneer radio like the Pioneer DEH-P9400BH
what you did there was called hardwireing its wrong on that car just use a pc2-17-4 then you go from the factory harness to iso. when you buy and after market radio it comes with iso to the plug that is specific the model stereo that way there's no cutting wiring it just plugs straight in!
Dash kits are designed to fit aftermarket radios. All radios are single or double DIN and thus similar in size. You should have few problems with fitment.
i did my first Radio install at 15years old ,I had no idea what I was doing but it was fun and now its so easy I've offered to install for fam/friends free just get me the supplies. This tutorial is very good and zip ties are better than tape ,I solder my connections tho.
It does not matter if you use crimp caps or butt connectors. We actually see butt connectors used more often then crimp caps. With a butt connector, you can slide some heat shrink over it and make a stronger hold for the wire. For the average install, butt connectors work perfectly. No if, ands, or butts :P
so we still need that factory mounting bracket if we want to use an aftermarket double din stereo? Mine came with a single din radio, so I don't have the factory mounting bracket for double din. What can I do?
It's not really free dash kit or wiring harness because when I told one of your sales rep that I found a better price for this double din and he was like well do you need your dash kit and wiring harness if not then we can work something out but if you do need it then that's how much it will be.
So as you said YOU ARE THE ONLY COMPANY ON THE PLANET THAT MAKE THE ISO RADIO CONNECTORS, and if you get them from any other company, you are buying fraudulent merchandise....interesting, i've worked i the industry for twenty years and never heard or seen that! YES! Also you may have to use a pry tool or crow bar, over hear in england we use radio release keys, that designs are found on the makers websites or you email them and you cut it out of .5-1.5mm sheet metal to release it, I have never had to ever had to use a "pry tool" or CROW BAR (thats what CRIMINALS/BURGLARS use!!) Also I always take off the positive connection on the battery, because if you remove the negative and your hanging out of the car connecting some, lets say amplifier to the headunit to boot and am grounded my self and touch something live (if im connecting extra batteries or equipment, I DON@T want to electrocute MYSELF or severely damage the cars electronic system that could cause a very expensive repair bill (Oh yeah, I nearly forgot you are only stating that so your company can get some extra work and charge people through their teeth and nasal; cavities!) I personally hate companies that lie to potential customers to scare them so you can drum up some extra business, go suck a turkey, you twat!
Had no idea that you could rollback from a Double Din to a Single Din until this video, this will save me some money. I really need to replace my police cruiser's extremely simple AM/FM-only radio
