Great Job. Got exactly the same problems with the sunroof and the lining. Thanks for sharing your experience. I will try to share my experience when I get to it. Good luck with your A2 !!!
Great tutorial Michael. Just a thought, wouldn't it have been easier to remove the motor 1st and manually slide the main panel open to give access to the 3x front bolts.
Great video thanks! My A2 makes the same sound and I asked the garage to disconnect the cables as not to re-open it. Is there a manual way of opening the roof to clean the drains as I am getting a water leak. If anyone can help I would much appreciate it. Thanks.
Yes you can do but it's really fiddly. You have to slide forward the locating clips then lever the glass up to remove 3 screws either side and the panel will lift off as per the first part of the video. Not sure if there's an easier way to clean the drain holes. Good luck!
@@npdvvecchi7181 You can shut the roof manually if all fails. It will be mightily expensive at an Audi garage I'd imagine. But to be brutally honest, I didn't actually like driving with it open afterwards as it was very noisy and buffeting and kind of wished I'd left it alone! You also have to be very careful with the headlining as it's easily damaged. Don't want to put a damper on it and you may enjoy the 'open air' feeling you get when it's operational.
@@garageofdad I am not bothers about fixing it. I just want to be able to open it manually, clean the drainage pipes and close it. I wish there was a video to show how to proceed! 😊
Hi, I need to replace the headliner matarial - it came off in few places. Will I have to remove open sky glasses or mechanism in order to remove only headliner? Or maybe headliner will come out without removing the open sky?
Yes you can remove the headliner on it's own. When you re-do the cloth you have to remove all the orange glue/foam from the base as the new glue just doesn't stick to it (as I found out) Also use minimal spray glue as it can show through the material.
@@garageofdad I will change the material for the new one, because glue can go through the old one. Besides that, new material has new sponge, so it will look nearly the same as original. Thanks for your help.
All my seals were ok, it's the drain channels that you have to make sure are clear. The worst part of the whole job is the roof trim/fabric. Really take your time with it and try to avoid damage. You'll also need a friend to help lift the OSS on and off as it weighs a tone!!
@@diydetail8916 From what I remember, it was a dry rubber seal that was in good condition on my replacement roof. It bolted down well without using sealant although a touch of windscreen sealant won't go wrong.
A really nice job. My one does not work and I'm thinking to repair or change. Thanks a lot for your video! I have question: Is the front piece of glass attached to the frame?. Thanks again for your video
Hi Michael, Short question maybe you can help. I own an Audi A2 with the normal roof and im planing for converting to open sky roof. Is that possible? When you took out the roof remani on the car the front and back side of the glas? Cheers!
Hi Razvan It is not something I would do as it will be a huge job as well as all the electrics and headliner. The open sky is one unit but it is possible to separate all the glass panels on it but very tricky! Mike :)
I am looking to buy an a2 After seeing this video. My thoughts are Do not buy an A2 with Sunroof. Buy an A2 with Air conditioning It looks nice but I never like messing With head clothes
Took me 3 hours but it's not an easy job, the clips are fragile and the roof lining easily damaged. Putting it back takes on even longer. There is a chap in the A2OC on facebook who does it professionally.
If you press the open button, makes a noise and does not open, one of the plastic clips on the end of the cable will be broken. I'm afraid it's a roof off job to fix :(
