I just bought a 2017 A3 premium plus. So far so good. 71k miles, one owner, all major services (30,50,and 70K mile) services performed at the Audi dealership. Actually cost me less than my 2020 WRX.
Im driving A3 2.0 TDI sedan version, not quattro though and manuel but I really love it and the sound from the speakers from Bang & Olufsen are very good, great look, very nice interior with cheap insurance, low consumption and flawless for the last 3 years I've owned it.
After owning this car for 2 years now sedan version …. I must say I don’t think I can ever drive a car without a dsg transmission ever again . The thing is amazing
audi a3 2015 1.8t premium 125k miles has a ticking engine noise has white smoke coming from engine and exhaust mmi system works but no power to speakers any help will be appreciated 🙏🙏
I love this review...my last AA engineer told me about some of these same fault with the Audi's..I know the Germans can make good machines however no company is 💯 % perfect. we are only human....great little car anyway 👏👏👏
Ive seen bunch of videos about discriminating audis, a4, a3 so on. I'm pretty sure it doesnt matter which car you get, if you dont gonna take care of it, it's going to get bad either way, unless you buy Fiat Polska 1996, which barely has any components in, its normall that a car can get bad, they have a lot of stuff in them, but that's what makes it good, confy, sportslike and so on.
Probably been answered already in the comments, but what DSG gearbox does the 1.4 TFsi have? Thinking of trading in my 2011 Polo 1.2 SEL for either a 1.4 TFSI S-Line or a 1.4 ACT Golf GT/R-Line. Not many about with the £30-£35 road tax circa 2014-2016 with low mileage. Although, could be tempted by an older TT I saw in a show room yesterday 😅
Great video! My misses has had her 2013 1.4 petrol (123hp non COD) for about 18 months now and I can't recommend it enough to anyone who doesn't do crazy miles. It's a lot nipper than it has any right to be and averages mid 40's to the gallon, £30 a year road tax and it owes nothing bar a service. Cracking cars 👍
@@user-oc7uu8ss1x not on the newer belt driven engines. We've had that car nearly 4 years, done nearly 40k miles in it and never had to top it up between services.
I am interested in a (14/07/2014) 2015 model A3 1.4 tfsi 150hp automatic 3 door, that has done 180.000 km Anything specific to look for out for? This has the dry clutch right, and timing belt instead of chain?
I have the 2008 tdi quattro, and for anyone thinking of buying, DON’T. Problem after problem with the dpf, glow plugs, engine lights, it’s been a constant headache with repairs, not knowing if I’m actually going to make it to my destination. When driving good it’s an absolute pleasure but it is certainly not worth the headaches and wallet costs
I wonder which A3 series (engine wise) has tiptronic gearbox ( not stronic) between 2010-2013. Also can we understand psyhcially if its tiptronic or not may be from gear lever o dashboard or something else?
Hi there my daughter just bout a Audi A3 sline saloon with a 1.5cc engine and it's auto is the gearbox wet or dry clutch and anything to watch out for many thanks John
I have a 2017 a3 sline 2.0 quattro. Got it with 43k miles. I now have 64k on it after a year and one month so 13 months. So far so good i love this car!!!
Did you have any problems so far with the car. Im looking to buy the same car next im just waiting for it to depreciate in value currently it's 16k here in Europe
@@hmt-0764 me too, but sadly prives of used cars and new cars are rising due to the russian invasion of ukraine, lots of car parts dont get delivered so no new cars can be made what again lets the the price of used cars rise :(
Hello,i'm from the Beautiful Caribbean Island 🏝 of Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 w.i. I just came across your channel & I find it very informative especially when I'm thinking of purchasing a Red one 2nd. hand. Otherwise do enjoy the rest of your day.
Hi. Great video. I am looking buying an A3 1.4 tfsi from 2014-2016. Does the 1.4 tfsi has a version with the DSG 6 speed? I have the Golf 7 with 7 speed dsg and i hate it.
@@a.porzingis5119 the worst gearbox. The cheapest also. VW made a deal with Toyota to have this 7speed gearbox. In theory it was a good gearbox but in practice it was a nightmare.
This channel will grow significantly. Where this channel has the edge over others is the knowledge around what to look for. This is absent on nearly all other uk channels which we know what theg are. What would you rather listen to, Matt Watson blabbin on about door bins and bottles or this guy telling you about dry clutches and other potential slip ups.
2023 in Texas. Still got my 2015 a3 TDi from 2019 from the first owner on by back at 30,000 miles. So far just the DEF injector gone out $635 at Audi in Lubbock. Need to change one of the glow plugs in cylinder 3 they said $115 but so far only major problems besides the passenger seat pressure sensor being out but hear that’s a recall they will do for free. 72,000 miles and get like 50 MPG highway. Love the car so much I’ve seen thought about getting a 2nd one with the diesel. I plan to straight pipe it and delete the emissions where I hear the fuel mileage goes more up. Good car and little quick for what it is. No so bad for $20,000
Hi. I have a audi a3 sportsback 2018 model. Issue with graoning and creaking from front end when turning steering wheel to nearly full lock either way. Audi dealer says this is a normal issues with audi a3 to have this creaking and groaning noise. Changed the top bearing mountings but still annoying seems to be worst in dry weather..any tips or ideas what could be issue or is this just normal?
I have a 2019 and just started noticing the same creaking noise while turning at slow speed, it just went in for its first maintenance and they told me the exact same thing! The top left bearing is getting replaced next week.
@Tom Heyvaert had this changed under audi warranty but they wasn't going to cover the cost as its a common characteristics with audi a3s models so put a complaint to audi and finally got it replaced under warranty. I also sprayed lubricant on all joints etc track rod ends. Ball joints arm joints. as advised to lubricant the ball joints as they dry out . Seems to solve 80% of creaking. Another issue had was door rubber seal drying out graoning so put some VW G000405A2 Silicon Grease 50g Genuine New OEM Part Solved the groaning from door seals drying out. Hope this helped👍
@@waynesworld6020 Thanks for the input man, its a company car so im not too worried about any costs involved. The dealer said the bearings will be replaced under warranty anyways. I'll keep you posted, the parts should come in next week!
Hey Waynesworld. Will it make the noise when stationary or do you need to be moving? If when stationary this should be quite easy to spot on a ramp. If its only when moving try applying a dab of brakes when turning in each direction as the noise occurs and see if it disappears or quietens down.
Own a3 wagon. Shes a beast. For 250$ I can chip the car to add about 65hp. Mine comes stock around 200hp so for 250$ for 265+ hp is well worth it. Car is a beast/perfect daily driver car
@@theelephant5974 mine a 2008. Buy a 2009 or better parts are much cheaper. U can get a front bumper for a 2010 for 250$ a front bumper for my 2008 is 650$. The fenders rot in this car. Same thing a fender painted to match my car is about 350$ but for a 2009 to 2012 u can get them for about 100$. But if u buy if buy a tune chip for about 300$ Apr chip. They come about 215hp which is plenty says 200hp but its more than what audi says but a 300$ tuner chip they can get around 275hp which hauls ass. Plenty to get u around quickly
@@theelephant5974 mine the break sensors went so it shows the break symbol. The suspension is starting to go in the front but mine over 200k so that's expected. Its nothing major but I can hear a small bumping soumd in front end I just havent had the time to check to see what it is
Hi James. Being diesel it needs to through what’s called a regeneration for its DPF (a special filter in the exhaust). These regenerations take place during longer journeys so if your only ever doing short journeys it doesn’t get a chance to complete. The purpose of them is to burn off built up soot. Try to take it a longer drive once in a while and I’m sure you’ll be just fine!
I've had my A3 1.5tfsi 2019 model for 2 years now, purchased it with 20k km, now 40k km, no issues with the dry clutch. I'm ooking to do a stage 1 or do you think this is dangerous regarding the clutch?
Hi Karen, assuming it’s all in good health to start with I’d go ahead! It’s not so much the power that’ll do damage but lack of mechanical sympathy so let it warm up and cool off and try not to put too much load on the clutch whilst the car is slipping it, for example coasting slowly still in second gear. Let us know how it feels with stage 1!
I’m considering one of these, but the creaks/rattles put me off. Most of the VW’s and VW Group cars I’ve been in have had lots of rattles and vibrations and it’s driven me mad
I have a 2020 A3 saloon, absolutely love it had it for nearly two years but I do have creaks coming from the suspension every now and then going slowly over speed bumps. Hard to show to dealer as it doesn't happen all the time. Otherwise been very happy with it so far done about 34000 miles on it.
Hi i have an audi a3 1.4 tfsi 140 bhp it doesn’t judder when i move off but while im slowing down from a high speed the car will like have this small judder while going down but mostly when it goes to gear 2 is this normal as im slowing down from a high and harsh breaking or clutch issue (7speed gearbox)
@@brandonolsen2090 it’s been good! I have to admit its my weekend car, bought is at 90k miles its now at 107k, if put a tune on it which put it to 250hp, pulls like a beast. I’ve had to replace some dumb rubber because it was leaking a bit of oil but ofher than that no maintenace.
@@ІванТерешкевич-э4ц yes 2.0 tfsi tuned, it’s doing around 1:16 with normal driving so it’s def not green, but then again, why would you buy a 2.0 if you want to drive green. I’m using 98 premium only as the tune was set to it
@@brandonolsen2090 the only thing, but thats more a personal one is that i want more hp but doing that will fuck the engine in the long term, if you are like me, save a bit more and buy the s3 for the easy to add hp
Both very strong in reliability terms. Watch out for the s tronic judder in the a3 as mentioned in the video. Check the 320 idles and accelerates smooth, 2018 is right when the crank sensors were failing. Best of luck and enjoy!
Hey, i was looking at one today. It was a 1.8 tfsi. The 7 speed but they told me it had a wet clutch. I am a little confused now. It is a proline and fully s-line. 8v 2012 is the year. Is this a dry or wet clutch?
Great review, thanks, have 2015 1.4 tfsi cod, had the coolant leak, at least it had 12 month warranty, so was fine money wise. It’s not something you can find when buying the car, as you can only notice the leak after driving for quite a bit
How is it going? Going to see one tomorrow morning from a big used car dealer. Had cars from them before. Idk if you’re in the UK or not. It has 149k miles but looks very good. Anything I should check in particular for that mileage? Same as yours and also 2015.
@@japanluv seems to be common with VAG cars. I had an A3 8P 2008 which had coolant leak from the water pump which ended up wrecking the whole engine in about 2012, sold that car for scrap. Second time bought a brand new Skoda Fabia 2016 and water pump failed at around 50k miles in 2018. Luckily I noticed the temp needle move exactly as it happended and pulled over so no further damage was done to the engine; that was replaced under warranty.

Thanks very much for the usable info, nice! I own an A3 8P (4-2012, 218.000km/136.000ml) 1.4TFSI. Very nice and comfortable car. Chain and clutch replaced of course. Hardly noticable oil-usage. In due course looking for an A3 8V (2018> ) or 8Y petrol with 4 cilinders! What automatic gearboxes have dry clutches? Like I did, considering again having it chip-tuned, stage1. So much more fun for relatively little money, especiallly gained torque.
I am looking at a 2011 (Canadian) A3 with the 2.0L Turbo. It has 177,000 km. Does this configuration have a dry clutch or a wet clutch. I understand that the wet ones are less problematic? Also, how long to the timing chains typically last? Thanks
Just found a 2015 A3 premium 1.8 for 12,985 with 47,000 miles on !!! Is it something to be happy About or is one them sounds to good to be true situations ?
Great video! Very informative. I was thinking about buying the 1.4 perrol preferably one with cylinder deactivation built in. I just use it on the weekends and not as a daily commuter. Would that be a good fit? Also is that engine equipped with a dry or wet clutch?
Bought a 2015 A3-1.8 FTSI model last year in June, with 50M (80k). After another 20K it still runs very well, no creaks, bells or whistles. Love it. Keep looking at the RS3 race rocket model. Tempting… 😂
