Audi A3 key fob battery replacement.
In this video I show you how I removed and replaced a battery in the 3 button key fob of an Audi A3 1.6 TDI 2010 which is similar to other VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda models.

Hi, excellent presentation, thank you. My 2019 A3 is a bit different, the battery remains in the body when the cover is removed. Inserting the new battery requires the battery to be pushed against the edge contacts at an angle until it will slip home.

Perfect instructions! Lifting the cover by pushing the tab behind the metal key was an important first step that was not shown in my owners manual!

My God YOU are a Saviour Pal!!! Although simple to see now - I couldn't work out for months how to sort this out Lol Was about to go into Audi this morning who would no doubt of told me I needed a new key at £100 for my MK2 TT. 1 minute with the flat head and problem solved - BRILLIANT 🙂

Excellent instructions, thank you! Where others fail to do well but yours does, is with the cover insertion. Btw, while these key fobs are really very well made, I experienced a baffling strange problem. It would not unlock. Lock was OK. So was rear hatch & panic. But not unlock. I thought I had a driver's door loom issue (it's fairly common on older A3's). Sure enough, it was the battery. I put up with that for 4 months! Strange, that only that feature stopped working due to low battery.

@@HatBoyHarvey I would expect there is some way to program the fob such that it shows a low battery indication. Or, perhaps the unlock not functioning is that--just not properly or obviously documented. ;-)

@@pasiman7717 Yeah, it's bizarre. I live in Australia so the fobs are subjected to quite a bit of heat. Over the years, I've alternated between the two supplied fobs and got this far! As I was expecting some ludicrously expensive fix, I take my hat off to HatBoyHarvey; onya buddy!

This video is extremely helpful because I have the same exact fob, but stupid question - how exactly do you know when the battery needs replacing ? Is it when the red light flashes every time you press a button ?

Also, if your key fob battery is completely dead and you can't replace your fob battery, you can hold your key by the raised marker on the right side of your steering column while you hold down the brake and hit the start button. Your call will start and operate normally.
