Audi A4 Gauge Cluster Function Output Test and Setting the Fuel Level Adaptation Calibration

In this video I show you how I test the instrument or gauge cluster function on my Audi B7 Avant using OBD11 software. Software available here: amzn.to/2UATodN Using the cluster function output test under instrument cluster I am able to quickly rule out that there are any issues or malfunctions in the individual gauges of the cluster - specifically for the fuel level output since I just replaced the fuel level sender (video here: • Audi A4 S4 RS4 Quattro... )

The gauges will go to their specified positions while running the test: half way on temperature gauge, 3000 RPM on the tachometer, 62 mph on the speedometer or 1/2 full on the fuel level. If there is any deviation from these points, the gauge or cluster needs repair. My fuel level went to 1/2 way as indicated so I confirmed there is no issue with the cluster itself, and moved forward to calibrating the fuel level through adaptations.
Fuel Level adaptations: select adaptations under instrument cluster and enter channel 30. The factory value according to the post on AudZine above is 128. Changing this number up or down changes the resistance signal and will adjust the fuel level. I made sure my tank was 100% full, and then set the level to full by entering in higher values 160, 170 to adjust the needle up to full level. Time will tell if this is OK as I drive the car and monitor the fuel level reading.
Should there be any further issue with fuel level read out, I will need to remove the passenger side fuel level float which is part of the low pressure fuel pump assembly, part number 8E0919051CQ.

For those that have VCDS go to Instruments Output tests it'll be Analog Indicators. It will do exact test at least on the Audi A4 B6.👍

So this is important info on the subject if you have the OBDeleven... I was having a similar issue, except I was on E, I put in 6gal and it showed ¾ tank. I was also going through gas alot faster than normal. Fortunately I saw this vid and did the Output test, I had the same results. So I started to adjust and it started on 120 just like in the vid, but the problem is that the lowest value(96) isn't E, and the highest value(150)isn't F. The adjustment doesn't allow you to put the needle wherever you want. From what I gathered, It's just to adjust for the output test. So then I started to look at the values of everything Fuel related in the "Dashboard" section and went through everything that I had changed. I had changed the value for the seatbelt chime to "Off" and so I looked at the "History" section of every value that I personally changed & that's when I saw that my fuel tank setting/value (0023201)had been changed from (0020201) which in my case wasn't the AWD/Quatro tank size. How this happened, idk? But as I was looking at the live info, I saw that the AWD fuel sensor wasn't showing a value which led to further investigation. That's when I realized that w/e was wrong, it had to do with either the model of car not being set to AWD or a fuel setup not being AWD. If I learned anything from this, it's to make sure to keep strict record of Any/All adjustments or coding that you do bc it can turn out to be wrong or effect other sections of the car. Hey I am dealing this issue for the third time now. first removing and reinstalling sending unit worked, second time it didnt and additionally it was showing low fuel warning all d the time. I replaced sending unit and got rid of low fuel warning but guage is halfway full even with full tank of Gasoline. Did you find the full length fix? obdeleven seems like junk as most of the time if wont connect to few modules in my car along with dashboard

Hey, no I sold the car without replacing both sides. Just the one side. Of course, I disclosed all the issues to the buyer (last year). I agree obd11 was very frustrating to connect to the car, but once it did, worked for me. Not a fun car to work on, hence why I’m into BMW’s instead.

FITTO you need to have a lot of mechanical ability to keep repairing these cars as they do have lots of items that break and need work. It’s not that easy to work on compared to a BMW. I am enjoying driving mine more than I thought, but I’m not sure I would recommend an Audi or VW product to anyone. Buy a non-turbo BMW for maximum reliability and fewest trips to the repair shop.

My gauge is showing too high. On E, put 6gal in and it went to ¾. Why doesn't the adjustment work from lowest ohm =E & highest ohm = F
