Why go on snow full throttle? I have an Audi A8L and it is nor problem to climb even steeper hills on snow or ice just driving a little slowly. Do not worry, you can even stand still and drive on again without any problem. But it makes no sense to go full throttle.

Some quattros have a sport differencial for the back wheels - when active (set to sport mode), the back curve-outside wheel becomes more torque/spin and you can drift really good in snow (with ESP off, of course :D)

I Live in Colorado and have driven in snow my whole driving life . I could drive a rear wheel drive car with bald tires up that hill better than these guys lol.Total waste of time watching this!! Does not do either vehicle justice.
They don't know how to drive up the hill in snowy conditions. They should have been able to climb that hill in those conditions without swirving like idiots. Too much throtle.
BMW seemed to have better traction and would have driven straigt if the driver would stop pointing the front wheels in the wrong direction all the time!!
Its the first generation of the X5 and it hasn't X-Drive it has a 4WD what you can turn on and is then active. The Facelift E53 has X-Drive and is much better on snow...
+Manuel. sch Hm, no. All X5s has permanent 4WD, but the first ones does not have xDrive (no open center diff). It only has an open center differential with torque preset 38/62.
